I have a really unusual, made up name that I’ve always hated. I think I’m finally ready at 23 to pull the trigger and legally change it, but I can’t decide on a new name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] mom, dad, sisters, and my own current name all start with T, so I do want to stick with a T name. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite T name ever is [name_f]Talia[/name_f], but my sisters’ names are [name_f]Tiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Tia[/name_f] and I’m wondering if that’s too similar to theirs. I think [name_f]Tia[/name_f], [name_f]Tiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Talia[/name_f] may sound like a mouthful.
I also could potentially see myself as a [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], but one of the reasons I dislike my current name is that it sounds masculine and I’m often mistaken for a man based on my name. I think [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is more commonly used as a male name. Maybe another spelling would feminize it a bit?
I also like the names [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] and [name_f]Tamara[/name_f], but I’m having trouble deciding. Which is your favorite? Any thoughts on these names or new suggestions? Thanks!
I don’t actually find [name_f]Talia[/name_f] to be that big of an issue with your siblings. I’d pick that. Is there a middle youre trying to collaborate it with?
I think [name_f]Talia[/name_f] works with your sisters’ names! Also at 23 it’s possible that most people you meet wouldn’t even know your sisters’ names.
Maybe [name_u]Tristyn[/name_u] for a more feminine spelling of [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]? I do think people would assume a [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] was male.
I like both [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] and [name_f]Tamara[/name_f] too! With a sister named [name_f]Tia[/name_f], [name_f]Tamara[/name_f] reminds me a little of [name_f]Tia[/name_f] and [name_f]Tamera[/name_f] but that might be a dated reference at this point. Also if you’re not twins it might be less noticeable.
Other ideas could be [name_u]Tavi[/name_u], [name_f]Tanya[/name_f], [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], or [name_u]Teagan[/name_u]?
I love the name [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] as another option and Maybe, [name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Talia[/name_f] is great though if you feel the most comfortable with it, I think it’s different enough from your sisters.
I think with your sisters’ names being so similar - Tia and Tiana - you have license to go similar too. That, and I agree with the poster above, it doesn’t really matter now you’re all adults as in most contexts, people won’t ask/be concerned about your sisters’ names. So I think Talia should be on the list! I personally prefer Taryn to Tamara but both work and it really depends on what sort of nickname you’re hoping to use - Tamara easier for nicknames but I find Taryn more appealing. Another T name that I think could work is Tarni or Tahnee (both spellings exist), meaning “by the sea”. I think it would go really nicely and it’s still feminine - whereas Taryn is almost unisex to me. Tahnee also flows nicely to Nicole. Good luck - don’t delay the change, as you can imagine, only gets harder as you get older!
[name_f]Talia[/name_f] is lovely and I don’t think it’s too close to your sisters’ names- especially considering they’re already pretty similar to each other!
tiana and tia are so much more similar to each other than talia is to either of them - talia is totally fine to use here imo!
tristan is definitely a masculine name, at least in the us (ranking #226 for boys and outside of the top 1000 for girls). i don’t think changing to tristan or any alternate spelling would be wise - seems like you’d be solving a problem by creating another (the same, basically) problem.
taryn and tamara are both nice! i’ll also suggest trinity because of its shared beginning with tristan.
i’ve changed my own name and i have to say, your favorite name doesn’t always feel like your own name. i suggest trying out a few different names. you can do this by asking close friends/family to call you different things, or just going by different names online. you can also try using different names out and about, like at starbucks, to see how it feels to be called the name by a stranger
[name_f]Talia[/name_f] is lovely, I will echo everyone else in saying I don’t think it’s too much like your sisters, and I also like [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] and [name_f]Tamara[/name_f]. [name_f]Tamara[/name_f] sounds a bit more dated than your other choices imo. There is also [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], which I think has even more zing than [name_f]Talia[/name_f], and my favorite Hebrew name, [name_f]Tamar[/name_f]!
I prefer [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] to [name_f]Tamara[/name_f], but I do prefer [name_f]Talia[/name_f] to both of them.
You’ve gotten some really great suggestions already, so I won’t repeat them, but here are ideas that haven’t come up yet:
[name_f]Tawny[/name_f]
[name_f]Talitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Tasha[/name_f]
[name_f]Tenley[/name_f]
[name_f]Teresa[/name_f] / [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]
[name_f]Tori[/name_f]
