[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is Greek, all of our middle names start with “M”, and our first son’s name is [name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_m]Marc[/name_m] [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] S. We just had our second son and he has very dark, Greek features. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is set on using his late father’s name ([name_m]Gregory[/name_m]), but this is not my favorite name and my preference is to keep it as a second middle name. Our favorite first name up to this point has been [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m], but when we tried it out we heard a lot of awkward silence…we would call him [name_u]Ari[/name_u], but I am not sure about choosing a name for which we are planning on using a nickname almost exclusively.
Here are the choices we have narrowed it down to and we would love some input:
[name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] S. ([name_m]Don[/name_m]'t love [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], would welcome another option)
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
I like [name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u], too, but to keep with your Ms I think [name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S. is the only option that’s going to get you everything you want with honoring the family’s Greek heritage, keeping the M middle, and honoring Grampa without putting [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] first.
[name_m]Basil[/name_m], [name_u]Constantine[/name_u], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] are all Greek Orthodox saint names. [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] stands out as a Latin-[name_m]French[/name_m] name and [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] stands out as pre-[name_m]Christian[/name_m].
Some other Greek M names you might consider would be Makarios, Mathaios, [name_m]Maximos[/name_m], Methodios, [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Miron[/name_m], and [name_m]Moses[/name_m].
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_m]Myron[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S. sounds great to me, too.
I really like [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] but it seems worlds away from your other son’s name! [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] also has the best flow out of the options you’ve listed.
I quite like [name_m]Julian[/name_m] & [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] together actually but would you find him not having an M middle name?
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_u]Antoine[/name_u]
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
While [name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a great name, I do think [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] is a little different in style from [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. If you don’t want to use [name_u]Ari[/name_u] by itself, what about: Aristos, Arius, Arion, [name_m]Aric[/name_m], Ares? I’m guessing that the -S ending may be an issue though with your last name. [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] is similar to [name_m]Marc[/name_m], so some other suggestions for an M mn-- [name_u]Maurice[/name_u], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], [name_m]Melvin[/name_m], [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m], [name_u]Murray[/name_u], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. I really like [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as a way to lighten some of these names. Instead of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], you could use [name_m]Xander[/name_m]/[name_m]Zander[/name_m], [name_m]Zane[/name_m], [name_m]Alec[/name_m].
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] and
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
Arion [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Aric[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Xander[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Zane[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S. (nn [name_u]Drew[/name_u]?)
[name_u]Drew[/name_u] [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_m]Myron[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Paul[/name_m] [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Myron[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] S.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and [name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m].
I love [name_m]Basil[/name_m]! Guilty pleasure name of mine. [name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] gets my vote. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Julian[/name_m], too. Congrats on the new son!
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] gets my vote. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_m]Basil[/name_m] !!!
Thanks everyone for weighing in - please keep the comments/suggestions coming. We have given ourselves a deadline of tomorrow when our peanut is 2 weeks old!!!
I quite like [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m].
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] gets my vote. But if you want an M middle then I like [name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_m]Matthaios[/name_m] or [name_m]Basil[/name_m] [name_m]Myron[/name_m].
Menelaos, Miltiadis, Michail, Minas would all work well with [name_m]Basil[/name_m] too. There is something about [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] that just doesn’t fit with [name_m]Basil[/name_m] or [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] to me.
