I struggle so much with boys names for some reason. I feel like my husband and I have been through every boys name that exists, and we don’t love any of them. We usually prefer more unique, not so common names. My problem is that I seem to keep coming back to quite popular boys names, but again, I don’t really “love” any of them. Also, I seem to gravitate toward names that end with an “n”, but I would prefer a name that does not end with n. Our last name ends with an “in” sound, so names that don’t have an n at the end seem to flow better.
Here is a quick list of some names we have tossed around:
Grayden, [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Landon[/name], [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Carter[/name], [name]Talon[/name], [name]Kasen[/name], [name]Owen[/name], [name]Porter[/name]
Names I really dislike:
[name]Asher[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Beckett[/name], and the “super classics” like [name]William[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name]
You noted the discrepancy between what you think of as your naming style – unusual, not so common – and the names you’re actually drawn to, which are all extremely common. My advice would be not to ignore your instincts.
There are just a few on this list that interest me. I have an interest in:
[name]Calder[/name]
[name]Brady[/name]
[name]Ronan[/name] (or possibly [name]Rowan[/name])
[name]Bryce[/name] (vetoed by DH)
And I have been drawn to [name]Niles[/name] the whole time too, but DH vetoed that as well.
I think I am still just stuck on what my actual “naming style” really is, especially for boys.

let me know what you think of these so I can offer more help! thanks
I do really like [name]Declan[/name], [name]Kyson[/name], and [name]Sawyer[/name] but DH has vetoed those.
I should have also added [name]Rylan[/name]/Ryden to my list. [name]Rylan[/name] is actually one of my favorites, I just forgot to add it above. You reminded me of it with [name]Ryder[/name] and [name]Ryker[/name], which were all part of this same conversation.
I also like [name]Parker[/name], but DH thinks it is a girls name, this is how we decided we were interested in [name]Carter[/name].
[name]Tyler[/name] is also somewhat on our list. We actually love the nickname of [name]Ty[/name], but we can’t seem to agree on a name that gets us there. [name]Tyler[/name] was my gradnmother’s oldest brother’s name, so I know she would love it
Also, instead of [name]Graydon[/name], how about just [name]Gray[/name]? Or [name]Grayson[/name]? Much less awkward to say, and a lot more handsome. [name]How[/name] about [name]Grady[/name]?
I should also add with the [name]Ty[/name] thing, our last name begins with a T. We are ok with the aliteration of two T’s, but in my opinion anyway, if the first name starts with a T, it can’t end with an N. We do like [name]Tyson[/name], and also [name]Tynan[/name], but they just don’t flow with our last name.
I also do really like Tyce, but again, DH does not…
We have also talked about [name]Ryland[/name], but we both prefer [name]Rylan[/name] or Ryden over it.
[name]Grady[/name] has also been discussed, but neither of us really loves it. Nothing wrong with it, and it fits all my criteria, I just don’t love it for some reason… and so the naming struggle continues.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Porter[/name], [name]Kellan[/name], and [name]Rylan[/name]! =]
I have seen [name]Toby[/name] or [name]Troy[/name] forget about their middle letters and go by the nn [name]Ty[/name] if you like either of those.
It sounds like you could more easily settle on something, but your DH vetoes a lot of the ones you like. Agreeing is so hard! I am kind of struggling with boys names too at the moment. I really, really like 2 or 3, but am just waiting for one to rise above the rest! My son’s name we just loved and knew it was the one, no questions. But we don’t feel that way with any other boys names right now.
[name]May[/name] I suggest my son’s name, [name]Cuyler[/name]/[name]Kyler[/name]? It is not common, at least where I am from. Most people I meet say I’ve never heard of it, that’s a neat name, etc… It may not be your style at all and that is perfectly fine if it is not. [name]Just[/name] thought I’d throw it out there since it is similar in feel to some of your other names. (at least to me) such as [name]Tyler[/name], [name]Kyson[/name], Tyce etc…
I do think [name]Ty[/name] would be perfect. I don’t think you need a longer version personally. I also like [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Gavin[/name] from your list.
You are right to some extent. My husband vetoes quite a few names. We are both quite picky, but he is even more picky than I am. I do like [name]Kyler[/name] that you suggested, but I can already tell you DH would veto that. I am curious if he would entertain the [name]Cuyler[/name] spelling though… Might be worth mentioning to him (he has an issue with K’s in boys names… don’t ask, haha).
