I posted a similar request a week ago but got no replies so I thought I’d try again:-)
Here are my top choices that DH likes too. We are looking for something a little (or a lot) different. I love all these names but each has some issue that makes me hesitate to declare it The [name]One[/name], so I thought it would be nice to here other people’s opinions (and thought I’d add my middle name choices just because)
[name]Zephyr[/name]
Atley/[name]Atlee[/name] (can’t decide yet on a spelling we prefer, leaning towards [name]Atlee[/name])
[name]Zevi[/name]
Some concerns: 1) [name]Zephyr[/name] is too out there. 2) [name]Atlee[/name] is possibly too trendy sounding, with the surge in popularity of last-name first-names, and also too similar to [name]Ashley[/name], which is the name of a friend’s daughter. [name]Do[/name] I even need to care about the similarity since [name]Atlee[/name] is a boy? [name]Just[/name] curious about what other people do in similar situations. 3) With [name]Zevi[/name] I worry I’d be setting him up for a lifetime of correcting people who think it’s pronounced like [name]Levi[/name] with a z (it’s ZEH-vee not [name]ZEE[/name]-vy). [name]Zevi[/name] has the most sentimental value as it’s a variation of DH’s dad’s Hebrew name (Tzvi).
I like [name]Zevi[/name] best, and the pronunciation does not seem confusing at all. I would never pronounce it as rhyming with [name]Levi[/name].
[name]Zephyr[/name] is a little too out there (for me, and in my opinion) and [name]Atlee[/name] seems trendy, though I’ve never heard if it. It just has a trendy sound.
[name]Zevi[/name] is cool, approachable, and will age well. I really like it!
i love [name]Zevi[/name] (its my nephew’s name and he’s so cute ), although technically it means wolf, while Tzvi means deer (i happen to like Tzvi too!). i know kids who spell it Zevie or Zevy, if either of those options appeals to you.
I think I like [name]Zevi[/name] the best - but I’m always a big fan of familial connections/meanings to names. I wouldn’t worry too much about the pronounciation. When I first saw the name in your post I read it as Zeh-vee. [name]Atlee[/name] is nice too - but if I’m being honest, I envision it being for a baby girl
At first I thought [name]Zevi[/name] meant wolf and was a variant of [name]Zev[/name] but nearly all the sources I could find indicated it was a variant of Tzvi, not [name]Zev[/name]. The only places I found it listed as a variant of [name]Zev[/name] with the meaning wolf didn’t seem very reliable, which is kind of a shame because I like the wolf meaning better:-)
I agree, [name]Zephyr[/name] is just too crazy, especially for a boy who might become self conscious about his name. [name]Atlee[/name] is by far my favorite. I don’t think you need to worry about it being too close to [name]Ashley[/name]. [name]Zevi[/name], although having sentimental value, will probably have a lot of mispronounciation. I admit, I thought it was [name]Levi[/name] with a Z before I read what you had written. Maybe use it as a middle name? I think you should use it in some way since it has a sentimental value.
[name]Atlee[/name] [name]Zevi[/name], perhaps?
Best of luck to you Xx
I agree with everyone! [name]Zevi[/name] is the best. [name]Zephyr[/name] is second, but why go there, since you have [name]Zevi[/name], which seems to have all the advantages and none of the disadvantages of [name]Zephyr[/name]? You COULD name him [name]Zev[/name] and call him [name]Zevi[/name] which might make pronunciation more obvious and also give him a more formal choice.
[name]Atlee[/name] especially with that spelling sounds like a trendy invented girls’ name. Atley is better, but nowhere near as good as [name]Zevi[/name].
I actually love [name]Zev[/name] and would have gone with that over [name]Zevi[/name] but my last name begins with and F and the result was that the names blended together. And thanks for your points about the [name]Zevi[/name]/[name]Zephyr[/name] advantages - I never considered it in that light.
[name]Zevi[/name] is really growing on me. It’s neat that there is a family connection too! I’d definitely go with [name]Zevi[/name]. The other two names actually sound feminine to me.
