This is my first post here though I have been reading the forums for months!
My partner and I are expecting our first baby soon and have made no progress with a girl name! He tends to like names that are currently quite popular, and I want something a little more traditional and more uncommon. We are ok for boy names - we both like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Aaron[/name_m], [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], to give you an idea of our tastes.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u]
Names we somewhat agree on, but neither feels just right:
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
Any suggestions for something we might both like would be MUCH appreciated! Likely middle name is [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] (my mother) but other possibilities are [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Susan[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f]… (all family names)
Wow! So many great suggestions. I love both [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f], but neither of them work with our last name. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is also a favourite, but my partner’s name is [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] and I think it might be too much of the “[name_u]Lou[/name_u]” sound for one family? I am adding [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Anabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] to the list!
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] has a similar scandavian origin like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f].
If you want something like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f] could be an excellent compromise.
For his [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], I would personally choose Ismae or [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. It’s classy but not to formal.
Some other names:
[name_f]Evaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Briony[/name_f]
If it gives peace of mind for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], my father’s name is [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and my name is [name_f]Danielle[/name_f]. Apart from hating to be called “[name_u]Dani[/name_u]” growing up, especially since some people would have an accent that could not differentiate our two names, it didn’t bother me at all. I actually quite like being “named” after him. I think it would be quite lovely to have [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], as a nod to both your partner and your mother. It’s also a beautiful name.
My husband and I have a similar problem with tastes, and we ended up naming our first daughter [name_f]Holly[/name_f] after ruling out [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. It fits perfectly and is known yet classic without being too common - we’ve very happy with it.
Some other suggestions we considered/are using with baby #2 [there may be repeats!] :
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
to name a few. We had a lot of “compromise” names that never felt right, too. Good luck & congratulations!! My vote goes to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] since you both like it
