My Hubby and I are adopting a baby girl—We found out last week we have been matched, and mom is due in 1 week. Our first name is definately [name]Edyn[/name] (like the garden, but with a y). She will be half hispanic and half [name]African[/name] American, we are stumped! I think we need something classic, but cool–and I think at least 2-3 syllables. Maybe something hispanic??? [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Sophia[/name],…they just seem kind of dull to me…am looking for something different…thanks a bunch…jules
Congratulations!
[name]Edyn[/name] [name]Zahara[/name] was the first combination that came to mind. [name]Zahara[/name] is Hebrew for “flower.”
Or how about [name]Edyn[/name] [name]Juliana[/name]? [name]Juliana[/name] is Latin for “youthful.” I also thought of [name]Edyn[/name] [name]Carolina[/name].
[name]Allegra[/name]? Italian meaning joyus
[name]Sancia[/name]? Italian meaning sacred or Spanish version [name]Sanchia[/name]
[name]Mirabelle[/name]? french meaning wonderful, or [name]Mirabella[/name], the Italian version
[name]Rosalia[/name]? a Spanish ceremonial name
[name]Catalina[/name]? Spanish meaning pure
[name]Valentina[/name]? Latin meaning healthy/strong
[name]Sofia[/name]? means wisdom
[name]Lucia[/name]? means light
[name]Claudia[/name]? not a nice meaning but gorgeous name!
[name]Penelope[/name]? same as above!
[name]Ramona[/name]? Spanish means wise protector
[name]Paloma[/name]? Spanish meaning dove
[name]Nadia[/name]? Russian meaning hope
[name]Leonora[/name]? Italian meaning bright shining one
[name]Belia[/name]? Spanish version of [name]Bella[/name]
[name]Eulalia[/name]? Greek meaning sweet speaking
[name]Beatriz[/name]? Spanish meaning blessed
Congrats and best of luck!!
Aww, congratulations! [name]Will[/name] this be your first baby?
I like [name]Edyn[/name] [name]Rosario[/name].
[name]Eden[/name] is a lovely name (sorry to be annoying, but I think spelling it that way would be preferable, as it makes it look so much more refined and elegant, and that way she won’t constantly have to correct the spelling of her name. Sometimes ‘alternate’ spellings such as [name]Edyn[/name], especially substituting a Y for another vowel, can hint at lower socioeconomic ranking, and change a person, e.g. a potential boss’s, opinion of a person before they meet them).

Congrats on your new family edition!! [name]How[/name] exciting!! YAY!!
That being said, I completely agree with [name]Auburn[/name] that you should spell [name]Eden[/name] the classic way.
Names that may compliment her and her background… for a middle name…
> Yamila - it’s arab, and is spelt [name]Jamila[/name], but when pn in spanish sounds like a Y. its very pretty.
> [name]Luciana[/name] - its very lovely. its a classic and timeless
> [name]Fabiola[/name] - its has nice history to it and its a family name for me!
> [name]Zelia[/name] - i like it, but not sure of the flow with [name]Eden[/name]… now that i’m thinking more about it.
> [name]Margarita[/name] - family name too, but its a timeless name… even if used as [name]Margaret[/name].
> [name]Isadora[/name] - not as popular as [name]Isabella[/name] and just as lovely
> [name]Marbella[/name] - pn mar-[name]BAY[/name]-a its spanish
> [name]Marta[/name] - its cute and spunky.
I also agree…[name]Eden[/name] is a beautiful name, especially with the “e.”
I agree - you should spell [name]Eden[/name] with an E, in the traditional way. [name]May[/name] I ask why you want to use a Y in place of the E? You’ll be saving yourselves and your daughter time in the long run by spelling it the so-called typical way, as you won’t have to worry about correcting people! By the way, I think [name]Eden[/name] is a beautiful name!
I love a lot of the suggestions you’ve gotten, but I think [name]Eden[/name] [name]Marisol[/name] would be perfect, to be honest.
[name]Lemon[/name]
We chose [name]Edyn[/name] with a Y, because I felt it looked more feminine, and we want to use the nn [name]Edy[/name]–I get the whole spelling thing–I work in a nursery and I have seen names butchered! Suprisingly everyone I have talked to about the different spelling has liked it–maybe they were lying?? My name is [name]Juliann[/name]–so that is a possibility–I just never considered naming a child after me. We also like [name]Summer[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Jade[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Harmony[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] (a reference to a birth sibling)–and [name]Bliss[/name]???
My name is [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Margaret[/name].
[name]Margaret[/name] also means pearl, if looking for another way of connecting to her birth sibling. Also, as I’m sure are already aware of pearl’s relationship to [name]June[/name] and it looks like she will be a [name]June[/name] baby, as I was!
IDK if people were lying to you per se, maybe they didn’t want to offend you? Anyways, I also think [name]Eden[/name] will age better for when she gets older.
I don’t know if they were lying, but I still think it is a bit on the odd side - I’ll be frank. You can nickname her [name]Edie[/name], and it is still pronounced how you want it to be. In fact, I prefer [name]Edie[/name] over [name]Edy[/name] because [name]Edy[/name] reminds me of [name]Edy[/name]'s Ice Cream…
Here are some more ideas regarding her middle name!
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Celestia[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Estella[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] Hosanna
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Ileana[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Katharina[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name] - It means “pearl,” you know…
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Sariah[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
Good luck, and congrats on your adoption!
[name]Lemon[/name]
I have to agree with everyone else [name]Eden[/name] is a perfectly lovely name but when it becomes [name]Edyn[/name] it reminds me of the terrible man [name]Edi[/name] [name]Amin[/name].
I would spell her nn as [name]Edie[/name] as this is also a well known spelling for the nn.
There are so many lovely middle name suggestions for you here I won’t add any more but I love the spelling of [name]Eden[/name] so please reconsider and don’t use the ‘y’ in the name.
I agree that [name]Eden[/name] looks better, but of course it is up to you. I also think your daughter should have both sides of her heritage expressed. I haven’t seen anyone offer any names that are traditionally [name]African[/name] American. It seems as if they were ignored in favor of mostly Spanish names. The best option would be to use a name that incorporates her mixed heritage. Maybe she can have two middle names, with one being Spanish and the other being [name]African[/name] American. That would be the balanced way to do it.
Your daughter will likely appear to be either what Hispanic people call “morena” or she will probably look mostly [name]African[/name] American. I say this because Hispanic people are essentially mixed racially already and they have [name]African[/name] heritage in that mixture. When combined with [name]Black[/name], the offspring end up having a large amount of [name]African[/name] DNA, which is why they normally look black. I love many of the Spanish mn suggestions, how about pairing one of them with one of the [name]African[/name] American names listed below? I have included their definitions as well. I think many of these would be great with [name]Eden[/name] WDYT?

Sorry have to agree when i saw [name]Edyn[/name] i was so confused. [name]Eden[/name] is very nice. I like the idea of one hispanic on african name I would like to suggest the ethiopian name Desta.
[name]Eden[/name] Desta [name]Marisol[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] Desta [name]Paloma[/name]
I absolutely love the name [name]Eden[/name]. I have to agree that spelling it [name]Eden[/name] is intuitive to most people and I think it’s really beneficial later in life. Plus, the nickname [name]Edy[/name] could easily be [name]Edie[/name] (traditionally it is spelled this way). Of the other names you mentioned, [name]Summer[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Harmony[/name] and [name]Bliss[/name] (I actually know one in real life and her name fits her perfectly) are all names I love, if you end up moving away from [name]Eden[/name]. I think the idea of using a spanish middle name is a great. There are some gorgeous names that you can use that are less common than [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name]. Some middle name options:
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Paloma[/name] (I love that [name]Paloma[/name] means dove, so sweet!)
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Margarita[/name] (means [name]Pearl[/name])
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Alessandra[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Carolina[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Catalina[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Inez[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Josefina[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Lucia[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Marisol[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Pilar[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Rosa[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
I don’t have much to add except that I agree with the pps that [name]Eden[/name] is much more attractive than [name]Edyn[/name]. As to the nn, when I initially saw [name]Edy[/name], I pronounced it [name]Edd[/name]-y, whereas [name]Edie[/name] is much clearer. I love the idea of [name]Julianna[/name] after yourself!
[name]Eden[/name] will save the headache for all of us working in daycare:) [name]Just[/name] spell n [name]Edy[/name] with a y don’t butcher the name it takes the classic feel away
Also [name]Eden[/name] (E-den) is a girl name [name]Eden[/name] ([name]Ed[/name]-den) is a boy name that is rarely used anyway so I wouldn’t worry about it.
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Faith[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Riley[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Rylie[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Bailey[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
My name is [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Margaret[/name].
[name]Margaret[/name] also means pearl, if looking for another way of connecting to her birth sibling. Also, as I’m sure are already aware of pearl’s relationship to [name]June[/name] and it looks like she will be a [name]June[/name] baby, as I was!
IDK if people were lying to you per se, maybe they didn’t want to offend you? Anyways, I also think [name]Eden[/name] will age better for when she gets older.[/quote]
I have to completely disagree w/ everyone. I like [name]Edyn[/name] SO much! I’ve never seen the spelling but it makes the name stand out from [name]Eden[/name]. All names nowadays can be spelled five different ways. [name]Don[/name]'t give in - go w/ [name]Edyn[/name]!! I like [name]Edyn[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] or [name]Edyn[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]?
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Marcella[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Sofia[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] fav!
I’m with the spelling of [name]Eden[/name] as well : ) other way looks like a misspell
I made the mistake spelling one of my daughter’s names differently because it seemed more feminine, but instead we just spend time telling people how to spell it. I would go the traditional way.
