Need help with my sibling name list!

We have one daughter named [name]Arabella[/name]. I thought we were settled on our names for siblings and now I’m not sure. We’re planning having more (in the near future) and I’d love some feedback/suggestions. We like old-fashioned, vintage, and many-syllable names. We like names that people have heard before but that aren’t common ([name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], and [name]Catherine[/name]-type names are beautiful but too common). We also like shorter old-fashioned names like [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Olive[/name] that are paired with a longer middle name. Middle names will be family names. Our last name is one-syllable, harsh [name]German[/name] name.

Short Girls Names:
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Penina[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] [name]Adelaine[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] Irelyn
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] (Claree)
[name]Frances[/name] Joliette
[name]Colette[/name] [name]Helene[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Michaele[/name] (Prounounced [name]Mick[/name]-ale)

[name]Long[/name] Girl Names:
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Bess[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Joy[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name] [name]June[/name]

[name]Long[/name] Boys Names:
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name] Tayloe (not [name]Taylor[/name])
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Michael[/name]

Short Boys Names:
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Lyndon[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Hammond[/name]

With [name]Arabella[/name], I wouldn’t go for a name which is as ungirlie as I see a couple of your names being- [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Frances[/name], namely.
I love both these names ([name]Olive[/name] is my eldest daughter’s name) but I see them as both so different to [name]Arabella[/name].

The names I see going best with [name]Arabella[/name] are:
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Penina[/name]- [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] sound like sisters. [name]Alice[/name] I find pretty but not ‘ooh thats interesting’ pretty.
[name]Eloise[/name] Irelyn- Reeeeheally dislike Irelyn, as it looks a little yooneek. But I think [name]Eloise[/name] is pretty with your daughter’s name. Not an exciting combination, maybe a little predictable? But nice
[name]Philippa[/name] [name]June[/name]- Amazing combination. I love [name]Philippa[/name], and even more so with [name]Arabella[/name]. It compliments the lively, girlie [name]Arabella[/name] by being, still girlie, but more lilting and mellow.
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name]- Again, really don’t love [name]Grace[/name] in the middle. But, I like [name]Josephine[/name]. Spunky and underused
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name]- I like this one but I’m not the Claree nickname! I think the combination is beautiful here. Really graceful and pretty.
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Joy[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] this with [name]Arabella[/name]. So unexpected and cool. [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is criminally underused. Would you use a nickname? The only question with this name is whether its a lotta name for a wee girl to carry!

I really don’t like [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] of your other names, but hey, thats just my personal taste. [name]Both[/name] have slightly slobby associations for me.

I’ve written something for all your boy names bar one because they all seem like a pretty acceptable match for [name]Arabella[/name]!
[name]Elliot[/name] Tayloe seems a very trendy, modern match for [name]Arabella[/name]. Neither name has the style of your others, imo

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name]- [name]Theodore[/name] is so cute. [name]James[/name] is, well, the ultimate ‘neutral’ name for me
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]- [name]Oliver[/name] is sweet. Again, a little too popular for my taste, but a sweet name
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Michael[/name]- [name]Love[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Arabella[/name]! Offbeat. [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Michael[/name] with [name]Sebastian[/name] however…little mismatched?
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lewis[/name]- [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name] are a gorgeous pair
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Lyndon[/name]- My favourite option by a country mile. Straight laced but fun name, and love the middle name [name]Lyndon[/name].
[name]George[/name] [name]Hammond[/name]- Have a soft spot for [name]George[/name]. Hammon just makes me think ‘ham’ but what a golden, timeless first name

So, favourites for me are: [name]Philippa[/name] [name]June[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Joy[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] (in order) and for boys [name]Charles[/name] [name]Lyndon[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]George[/name]

What would [name]Arabella[/name]'s name been had she been a boy, out of curiosity?

With [name]Arabella[/name], I think another really girly name would go perfectly, so all your names are great. I wouldn’t however have another A name (like [name]Alice[/name]) because that could set you up for a sibset of A names!

[name]Alice[/name] [name]Penina[/name]: like I just said that ‘A’ name problem. It is a love combo though and if it doesn’t bother you [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] is adorable.
[name]Olive[/name] [name]Adelaine[/name]: Im not a big fan of either name. [name]Adelaine[/name] sounds a lot like [name]Adelaide[/name] which I really don’t like, but I think [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Olive[/name] could work well as a sibset.
[name]Eloise[/name] Irelyn: I love everything about this combo. [name]Eloise[/name] is a stunning name and I know a lot of people won’t like it, but I love Irelyn. Or even [name]Ireland[/name]?
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name]: Really pretty combination but I love the English pronounciation of [name]Clara[/name] which is CLAHR-RAH. I don’t know if thats how your pronouncing it but I strongly dislike the [name]CLAIR[/name]-RUH way shrugs
[name]Frances[/name] Joliette: Not a fan, sorry
[name]Colette[/name] [name]Helene[/name]: [name]Colette[/name] had grown on me lately and [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Colette[/name] would make a great sibset, imo. Im not a fan of [name]Helene[/name] though.
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Michaele[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] but I’d want to pronounce the middle name [name]Michelle[/name]…
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Bess[/name]: [name]Adore[/name] the name [name]Genevieve[/name] and the nn [name]Evie[/name]! [name]Bess[/name] is nms, seems more of a nn, maybe?
Wilhemina [name]Joy[/name]: Never been a fan of Wilhemina, [name]Joy[/name] is pretty though.
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Mae[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name] this combo. [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] would be super cute
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name]: I prefer [name]Josie[/name] on its own, I dunno why  And I know people hate the middle name [name]Grace[/name] because its filler but I love the name and think the combo is perfect.
[name]Phillipa[/name] [name]June[/name]: [name]Lovely[/name]

I think every single one of your boys name goes perfectly with [name]Arabella[/name] so I won’t go through them all. The only one I think is a little misfit is [name]Elliott[/name] [name]Taylor[/name]. NOT a fan of Tayloe, it just looks like the misspelt version of [name]Taylor[/name], sorry! I especially love [name]Charles[/name] [name]Lyndon[/name].

Good luck! [name]Bree[/name]

[name]Alice[/name] [name]Penina[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Alice[/name] but [name]Penina[/name] sounds too much like Panini. I would try [name]Penna[/name] or [name]Perrine[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] [name]Adelaine[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this though [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Delaine[/name], or [name]Adelaide[/name] might make it a bit simpler
[name]Eloise[/name] Irelyn - like [name]Eloise[/name], but I think [name]Ireland[/name] would be prettier
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] (Claree) - love this combination though I like some of the other first names better
[name]Frances[/name] Joliette - I’d use [name]Juliette[/name] instead
[name]Colette[/name] [name]Helene[/name] - For me, [name]Collette[/name] feels a bit dated. I’d suggest [name]Corinne[/name] or go back to its root and chose another variation of [name]Nicole[/name]. I also like [name]Helen[/name] better than [name]Helene[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Michaele[/name] (Prounounced [name]Mick[/name]-ale) - [name]Adore[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] but no offense [name]Michaele[/name] is a bit odd. It seems to pronounced like [name]Mikhail[/name], the Russian boys name which would be more unique and interesting

[name]Long[/name] Girl Names:
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Bess[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] but might want to change [name]Bess[/name] to the more formal [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Joy[/name] - Possibly my favorite combo
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - love this one as well
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name] - [name]Adore[/name] it
[name]Philippa[/name] [name]June[/name] - fantastic

[name]Long[/name] Boys Names:
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name] - like
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] - love [name]Oliver[/name], but not a huge fan of [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name] Tayloe (not [name]Taylor[/name]) - [name]Elliott[/name] is nice but Tayloe will confuse everyone and frankly I don;t think it is as nice as [name]Taylor[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Michael[/name] - like

Short Boys Names:
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] - like
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Lyndon[/name] - unsure
[name]George[/name] [name]Hammond[/name] - love [name]George[/name] but [name]Hammond[/name] is a bit odd and very surname-y

Numina- [name]Arabella[/name] would have been an [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] had she been a boy. We assumed it was a boy and were pleasantly surprised to hear we had a girl on the way. [name]Arabella[/name] was a name we had picked out a long time ago (nearly 6-7 years ago) before the [name]Bella[/name]'s and [name]Isabella[/name]'s of Twilight made it more popular. Last summer (while I was pregnant) when [name]Ivanka[/name] Trump named her daughter [name]Arabella[/name], we thought we were going to go with [name]Alice[/name] [name]Penina[/name] until [name]Bella[/name]-esque names died down.

However, [name]Alice[/name] is another name that is becoming more popular(maybe because of Twilight?). It’s my husband’s grandmother’s name and she is one of the coolest ladies I know. In any case, we went with [name]Arabella[/name] and it fits her perfectly. We’re 11 months in and we’ve avoided the [name]Bella[/name] nickname too. I hope that continues. I love the name [name]Bella[/name] but it’s a nickname that has become too popular and I always thought I would have uniquely named children.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate your thoughts. Great suggestions too!

I think [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Grace[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] is a beautiful, soft, feminine name that’s lovely with [name]Arabella[/name]. For a boy’s name, [name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name] would be great and I think it also compliments [name]Arabella[/name] really nicely.

You and I have very similar taste, so I won’t say too much or I’d just be gushing forever :).

Short Girls Names:
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Penina[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Olive[/name] [name]Adelaine[/name] - Alright.
[name]Eloise[/name] Irelyn - [name]Adore[/name] [name]Eloise[/name].
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] (Claree) - [name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] is a bit of a mouthful. [name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] rolls off the tongue more easily. But, either way, it’s an exquisite name!
[name]Frances[/name] Joliette - [name]Just[/name] ok for me.
[name]Colette[/name] [name]Helene[/name] - I really like this.
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Michaele[/name] (Prounounced [name]Mick[/name]-ale) - Ok

[name]Long[/name] Girl Names:
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Bess[/name] - Alright. Though, I do adore [name]Genevieve[/name].
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Joy[/name] - With [name]Arabella[/name], I really like [name]Wilhelmina[/name] and I will always have a soft spot for [name]Joy[/name]. The combination is lovely.
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the combination.
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name] - Pretty, but not my favorite.
[name]Philippa[/name] [name]June[/name] - Fantastic!

For the girls, my favorites (in order) are: [name]Alice[/name] [name]Penina[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name], [name]Philippa[/name] [name]June[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Joy[/name].

[name]Long[/name] Boys Names:
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name] - [name]Theodore[/name] is my top choice for another boy and [name]James[/name] is just so classic and handsome. Perfect!
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] - [name]Oliver[/name] is a favorite and I think [name]Daniel[/name] is another handsome classic.
[name]Elliott[/name] Tayloe (not [name]Taylor[/name]) - Tayloe is ok, but I love [name]Elliott[/name].
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Michael[/name] - Great combination.

Short Boys Names:
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] - Super love [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] is fantastic.
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Lyndon[/name] - [name]One[/name] syllable first name with a one syllable last name may sound brief, but the combination is handsome.
[name]George[/name] [name]Hammond[/name] - [name]George[/name] is great!

Favorites for the boys (in order): [name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Lewis[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Michael[/name], [name]George[/name] [name]Hammond[/name].

Thanks, klcalder2. I do [name]LOVE[/name] your taste in names as I think I’ve commented before.

I’m thinking [name]Alice[/name] is for sure. My husband’s grandmother is too wonderful to not have at least one of her great-grandchildren named after her. I really like [name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]- and I agree that [name]Clara[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] is kinda a lot to say. Thanks for the suggestion.

I keep going back to [name]Wilhelmina[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name]. I don’t know why I’m drawn to those names… I guess I just love long, multi-syllable names and I like the way they look with my husband’s short, abrupt, [name]German[/name] last name.

Ahh, if only we were planning on having 15 children.

I know exactly how you feel! Maybe I’ll get a tank of fish and just name them all the lost names I won’t get to use :).
