My husband and I are stumped. We are expecting baby girl #4 in early Feb and can’t for the life of us come up with a name we both love. Our three older girls are 2.5 year old triplets by the name of [name]Celia[/name], [name]Gisselle[/name], and [name]Anneliese[/name]. We love all of their names, and we did have some level of coordination insofar as they all have an “L” and an “S”-sound in their names, without rhyming or having the same ending. We tried to come up with a name for baby #4 using the same parameters but it’s just too hard, so now I’m looking for anything that will coordinate well with her sisters. Any suggestions would be welcome!
FYI my husband loves the name [name]Penelope[/name], but I don’t love it, and more importantly, know that it will be too long of a name for people to use fully, which will lead to nicknames, like [name]Poppy[/name] or [name]Penny[/name], neither of which I like.
Names that I loved but won’t work:
[name]Eloise[/name] (too close to [name]Anneliese[/name])
[name]Sienna[/name] (too close to [name]Celia[/name] in sound)
[name]Emmanuelle[/name] (too close to my sister’s name)
[name]Simone[/name] (can’t use b/c being used by a relative by marriage)
Names we’ve considered but neither of us love or think work well with her sisters’ names:
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Nanette[/name] (not a good fit)
[name]Callista[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Alexia[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name] (actually love this name but it’s my mother in law’s name and we don’t want to use it)
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Laine[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Lenore[/name], [name]Lacie[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] (Or [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Lucille[/name])… I think a K name would sound good in the sibset, something with a strong beginning. I like [name]Callista[/name] on your list. [name]Felicity[/name]?
Thanks everyone - I really liked [name]Felicity[/name] too, but my husband isn’t into it. We also really like [name]Isobel[/name] but feel like that might be overused…so many pretty names out there and of course most of them are becoming quite popular and trendy!
Allstephe - good eye! My husband is half Greek, part [name]German[/name]/Dutch (hence the [name]Anneliese[/name]/[name]Gisselle[/name] names)…ideally we’d find something that gives a little nod to either heritage, although not critical.
[name]Celia[/name], [name]Gisselle[/name] and [name]Anneliese[/name] are a great sibset! Before I make suggestions, I’ll comment on some of the names you’ve considered.
[name]Penelope[/name]–I love it, but it’s not quite in line stylistically, to my way of thinking. However, I think that people are a lot more respectful of names than they used to be. I think if you firmly but kindly said, “We prefer using [name]Penelope[/name]”, people would respect that.
[name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Sienna[/name]–I agree they are too close in sound
[name]Delphine[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name]–fit in style, but somehow the sounds don’t work with her sisters’ names
[name]Nanette[/name]–has always seemed a bit frivolous to me
[name]Callista[/name], [name]Jocelyn[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name]–are all good choices to my ear, and they maintain the pattern you established
[name]Phoebe[/name]–one of my favorite names and it works
[name]Alexia[/name]–seems too modern next to your earlier choices
[name]Genevieve[/name]–this works, but I’d try to give #4 a unique initial. This applies to [name]Callista[/name] also, of course.
And my favorites from pps:
[name]Sylvia[/name]/[name]Sylvie[/name]–one of my current favorites–it fits both the pattern and your naming style perfectly
[name]Amelia[/name]–also would be a great choice if you weren’t concerned with initials. I might go for [name]Emilia[/name] instead
[name]Mirabel[/name]/[name]Marielle[/name]–are charming
Also, consider:
[name]Rosalinde[/name]–fits your pattern and has the same charm as your triplets’ names…and isn’t it a [name]German[/name] form of ‘[name]Rose[/name]’?
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Linnea[/name]
[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Meryl[/name]/[name]Merel[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name]
[name]Melina[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Eleonara[/name]
[name]Lilis[/name]
Thanks for your thoughts on all the names - I agree w so much of what you say. I also had [name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosaline[/name] on my short list but it’s another name my husband isn’t into…same goes for [name]Linnea[/name]! I like [name]Daphne[/name] and [name]Lilis[/name] (though maybe a bit too close to [name]Anneliese[/name]?), as well as [name]Marielle[/name]!
[name]How[/name] about [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Bellamy[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Marcheline[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Natalie[/name]? I also like the suggestions of [name]Lucille[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name].
Thanks again everyone! Our daughter arrived three weeks early, and after being referred to as “the baby” for the first 48 hours of her life, I finally capitulated and agreed to [name]Penelope[/name]. My husband had enlisted my three older girls to lobby for that name too, so it was hard to say no. and now, I absolutely love the name for our daughter - she is a perfect little [name]Penelope[/name]! We may consider calling her Pippen, even though that’s usually a boy’s name, but we are going to try and have people stick with [name]Penelope[/name]. My preferred nickname is Penelopanini.
