I gave birth to my daughter, Aniella [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], on [name_f]May[/name_f] 10 of this year. Aniella is pronounced “Ahn-yell-a” She was named after my great-grandmother who emigrated to the States from Poland. My great-grandmother Americanized her name to “[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]” and went exclusively by [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Fast forward to the birth of my little munchkin who has been saddled with the incredibly popular nickname of [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
Well, crap.
It’s not like that I don’t like [name_f]Ella[/name_f], it’s just that every other sweet baby girl I meet is some variation of [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. And Aniella is such a beautiful and different name, I think I can do a lot more with it than just [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. I do call her by her full name pretty often, but I think it’d be fun to have a cute nickname to call her sometimes.
So here’s where I need your help. I know how creative berries can get. Any thoughts about nicknames for my little Aniella [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]?
What about [name_f]Ann[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f]? It’s not brilliant but it’s probably the closest I can come up with. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Elle[/name_f] but pronounced like the letter L instead or [name_f]Elly[/name_f] / [name_f]Elli[/name_f].
We call Big Girl; [name_f]Dollie[/name_f]. It’s a nickname from her Granny so she likes to be called that as they have a special connection. If you cant find one to go with her name, how about a nickname like that?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you not like [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]? I like it the most and I love that it’s having a sort of comeback. I do think [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is cute, too, and like the idea of [name_f]Elle[/name_f], though they both seem much more generic than [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].
What about [name_f]Anya[/name_f]?
Close to how Aniella and sounds like she would work as a nickname, and has a slight [name_f]East[/name_f] European flair that goes with the beautiful Aniella.
Thanks for the ideas everyone! My dad has started calling her “AJ” which is super cute. I really love [name_f]Ani[/name_f] and [name_f]Anja[/name_f]. But I also love the more creative replies like Yellow That would certainly fit her sunshiney personality.
I like [name_f]Annie[/name_f].
I agree with the post that says [name_f]Anya[/name_f]… it is European and keeps the nickname stylistically intact.
I was also thinking [name_f]Anja[/name_f].
I think it is either pronounced Uhn-jah.
Which would incorporate the Aniella and the [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_m]How[/name_m] about: [name_f]Anya[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_u]Nila[/name_u]? I do like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] though, very much indeed
I second [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f] and AJ!! [name_f]Love[/name_f] all if those, especially [name_f]Anya[/name_f] also remeber that nicknames don’t have to be strictly name-related. I know an ADORABLE little girl who goes by [name_u]Blue[/name_u] because of her eyes, and I know a girl called [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] by her family because of how she looked when she was sleeping as a baby (all curled up like cats sleep). Maybe think about some unrelated nicknames?
Gorgeous name! I would choose [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Ana[/name_f] or just plain [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. Though if you didn’t mind her going by her middle name, [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Juni[/name_f] are cute. I’ve always been a fan of Junebug.
I’m surprised I got to the bottom of the first page before seeing this suggestion but I completely agree with this! [name_f]Anya[/name_f] is a pretty intuitive nickname for Aniella.
[name_f]Anja[/name_f] is ahn-ya, same as [name_f]Anya[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Anya[/name_f] the best, but I also like the random-type suggestions. Is your grandmother still alive? Maybe she would like to give the baby a Polish-language nickname.
[name_f]Anja[/name_f] would be super cute! (and yes, to others who seem to be confused, it is pronounced the same as [name_f]Anya[/name_f] – Other languages use the alphabet differently, Polish being one of them).
Also just Ahn. It might seem a little weird at first, but I know someone who goes by this name and it is very nice.
