We have our second son due in 5 weeks…and we can’t decide on a name! We have an unusual last name, [name]Miracle[/name], that makes many names sound absolutely ridiculous or prime for bullying and jokes Help! With our first son, it was so easy to pick a name we both loved, but we feel very much at a standstill this time. We like names with some history that don’t sound too made up, but nothing especially common since my husband and I didn’t love growing up as one of many others with the same name in our classes.
(I feel weird divulging our first sons name along with last name, but it is in the “also like” list)
Names in our top list:
[name]August[/name] (I also have a trendy cousin with this name who is protective of the rising popularity hehe, we aren’t close)
[name]Luca[/name] (husband isn’t convinced this is formal enough, but I can’t swallow [name]Lucas[/name])
[name]Jasper[/name]
Names we also like:
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name]
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Wade[/name]
[name]Marshall[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Max[/name]
Considering family names for middle names:
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Matthew[/name]
Great choices, but I’d avoid all the ‘M’ names unless you want a cartoon’y superhero name for the kid. [name]August[/name], [name]Luke[/name], and [name]Wade[/name] are strong, understated names.
[name]August[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Hudson[/name] and [name]Wyatt[/name] are my favorites. (:
And I completely agree with Erin91. As for middle names, [name]Alexander[/name] is my favorite and it goes with almost anything.
If you like [name]Luca[/name] but not [name]Lucas[/name], how about [name]Luke[/name]? It’s a name with lots of history and is more “serious” imo, than [name]Luca[/name] or [name]Lucas[/name].
[name]Luke[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] is a great combo
[name]Luke[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] or [name]Luke[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] also work.
I’m not a fan of [name]Luke[/name] [name]Charles[/name] since both names have 1 syllable.
Other strong names with history but not too common that I like:
[name]Hugo[/name] (mn [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]Charles[/name])
[name]Joseph[/name] (mn [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]Charles[/name])
[name]Timothy[/name] (mn [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Charles[/name] or [name]Matthew[/name])
[name]Tobias[/name] (mn [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Charles[/name] or [name]Matthew[/name])
[name]Knox[/name] (mn [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Thomas[/name] or [name]Matthew[/name])
I like [name]August[/name], but it’s too wordy with your last name. Like a miracle happened in [name]August[/name]…
I like [name]Luca[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] or [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Alexander[/name].
Other names you may like:
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Prescott[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Breccan[/name]
[name]Easton[/name]
I’d avoid [name]Hudson[/name] because of the whole “[name]Miracle[/name] on the [name]Hudson[/name]” thing (the plane that made an emergency landing on the [name]Hudson[/name] [name]River[/name])…
I agree that any word sounding names should be avoided.
I think a monosyllabic first sounds great with [name]Miracle[/name] (and I agree-- you should avoid all word-names or M names lest you drift into superhero territory). A single-syllable name sounds strong, serious and masculine. [name]Luke[/name] & [name]Wade[/name] are both great choices; in a similar vein:
I agree with blade completely. A one syllable name would work miracles with your upcoming son. I would stray away from the M names like [name]Max[/name], [name]Marshall[/name], and [name]Miles[/name] in your ‘like’ section
[name]Wade[/name] and [name]Jack[/name] really jumped out at me from your list. [name]Jack[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] and [name]Wade[/name] [name]Alexander[/name].
