So we are expecting our second and thought of a boys name we both like but not sure how to spell it.
We saw it spelled [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], however I’m a fan of short simple names, but spelled in a way there is no mistake of how to pronounce it.
I like it spelled [name_m]Emit[/name_m] or Emitt, but can’t decide between the two…
I like the simplicity of [name_m]Emit[/name_m] but don’t want people to confuse it with the word emit… but we also have two T’s in the middle of our last name so is that weird to have double T’s in both names?
I’d instinctively pronounce [name_m]Emit[/name_m]/Emitt like the word emit, so EE-mit and not EH-mit. For this reason alone, I’d stick with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], it’s only two syllables so I think the “short and simple” aspect of things is still there.
I agree with the other posters. In fact, my natural instinct would be to pronounce [name_m]Emit[/name_m] as eh-meet and Emitt as em-IT, as opposed to ET. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is the way to go. You could Emet, but I just don’t think that cuts it either.
I would spell it [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] as well. It’s the most common spelling and he wouldn’t have to always correct people on spelling. I think [name_m]Emit[/name_m] would also lead to pronunciation issues.
Thank you all for your input! I only know one boy with that name and they spelled it Emitt, so I didn’t realize that was so much more uncommon!
Thanks!
