Need help with Twins' names!

Hello there, I’m new here on the site/forums and am expecting a baby girl duo in a couple months. Me and my husband have two older kids: [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], and are having some trouble finding names we actually love for these baby girls. I’m a proud Latina woman and would really appreciate suggestions of names that could fit in a Spanish/English bilingual background. My daughter’s name was a bit difficult to pull off in the beginning and a lot of my family members call her Máxima, which luckily my husband and I really like too. [name_m]Leo[/name_m]'s name was simply perfect and easy for both sides.

This is the list we have going right now so you can have an idea of what we like. Feedback on them would also be very helpful.

  1. [name_f]Serena[/name_f] (a bit too Gossip Girls? Husband likes it, I sort of too but maybe too much like my name, [name_f]Celina[/name_f])

2)[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] (too long for my taste)

3)[name_f]Laura[/name_f] (too middle aged, but my husband likes it)

4)[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (I’m on the fence because of popularity. Would be perfect because I’m a flight attendant and it relates to aviation through [name_f]Earhart[/name_f])

  1. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] (My husband loves this one but I find it way too fancy and formal)

  2. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (I like this one in theory but again, too long and maybe a bit too trendy)

  3. [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f] (My favorite name on this list because it’s my Abuelita’s name, I also love [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosita[/name_f]. My husband dislikes the [name_f]Linda[/name_f] part)

  4. [name_f]Ximena[/name_f] (Gorgeous in Spanish, but we feel like this one would just cause us and one of the babies a spelling/pronunciation nightmare)

  5. [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] (I really like this name and possible nicknames [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Celie[/name_f] and [name_f]Cece[/name_f], but my husband needs convincing. He doesn’t completely dislike it though.)

  6. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (We both love how this one sounds in Spanish but the English way is a bit off-putting for us pronunciation wise.)

PLEASE HELP!

My favorite of your options are Serena, Amelia, Laura, & Cecilia. Based on your preferences, I would also suggest
Claudia, Gabriella, Aurelia, and Adrianna.

Leo, Maxine, Claudia, & Cecilia
Leo, Maxin, Claudia & Laura
Leo, Maxine, Claudia & Aurelia
Leo, Maxine, Serena, & Adrianna
Leo, Maxine, Claudia, & Gabriella
Leo, Maxine, Serena, & Amelia
Leo, Maxine, Rosalinda, & Gabriella

My favorites on your list are [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] from your list.

Maybe…
[name_f]Rosalba[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Camila[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Viviana[/name_f]/ [name_u]Vivien[/name_u]
[name_f]Valeria[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and aurora perhaps [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f],[name_m]Leo[/name_m], ______, & _________:

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] & [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] & [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Raquel[/name_f] & [name_f]Thalia[/name_f]
Cateleya & [name_f]Marisol[/name_f]
[name_f]Catalina[/name_f] “[name_f]Cat[/name_f]” & [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] “[name_f]Posey[/name_f]”
[name_f]Febe[/name_f] & [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Dulce[/name_f] & [name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] “[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]” & [name_f]Nina[/name_f]
Paloma “Polly” & Lourdes “Lola”
Zeta & Ines
Ramona “Romy” & Carmen
Johannah & Serafina

[name_f]Lorena[/name_f] and Rosalita seem to be bet for your style.

Congratulations on the twins! What excitement.

The absolute standout on your list to me was [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f]. Such a beautiful and stunning name. But if your SO doesn’t like the -linda part maybe just [name_f]Rosita[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosina[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalba[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f]? I love all those [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names, they are so beautiful and elegant, yet with a hint of adorableness with the nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. And even using a different [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- name would still feel like an honour to your Abuelita, to me.

Maybe use [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as a middle name if it’s too popular for your liking? I do love your connection with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]!

And a few suggestions yet you maybe like-

[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Julieta[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]

All the best. I’m sure you will choose two beautiful names for your little girls!

[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Violeta[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]

Congratulations. [name_m]How[/name_m] exciting! I love [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] for one little girl. [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and also the suggestion of [name_f]Elena[/name_f] are lovely too. Maybe you would like [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]? I do think [name_f]Serena[/name_f] is a bit close to your name and may be confusing but it would be a beautiful middle name.

My favorites on your list are [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]

[name_f]Rosalia[/name_f], [name_u]Rosario[/name_u], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f], [name_f]Reyna[/name_f], [name_f]Zita[/name_f], [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f], [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Marisol[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Camila[/name_f], [name_f]Viviana[/name_f], [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]

From your list, I love [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. “[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]” is a sweet pairing. If your husband doesn’t like the -linda part (maybe too formal for a baby nowadays), maybe you can consider a variation like [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].

[name_f]Ximena[/name_f] is beautiful but might be best left to a middle name. I studied Spanish for years and still don’t know if it would be pronounced HEE-men-a or hee-MEN-a.

As for [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], I find it beautiful in Spanish but can’t even pronounce it in English. The hard Rs in the English pronunciation are really difficult for me.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is beautiful, and “[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]” sound beautiful together. But it is very common. Would you consider [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] is an alternative, or [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. It works perfectly with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], especially with the nickname [name_f]Cece[/name_f]. If your husband needs convincing, is there something about the etymology or history of the name he might like? For example, if he loves music, [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] was patron saint of musicians.

Other recommendations:

[name_f]Amara[/name_f]: Reminds me of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], but far easier to pronounce in English, and it also has the soft -ara sound from [name_f]Laura[/name_f], depending on how you pronounce [name_f]Laura[/name_f].

[name_f]Amaya[/name_f]: I just find this name beautiful, and it originates in Spanish.

[name_f]Anita[/name_f]: I think this name should be so much more popular than it is; it’s so lively and charming. It has the hard T sound from [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], but it’s simpler.

[name_f]Camila[/name_f]: Similar to [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], but has a softer sound that your husband might like, and it works well in both languages. If you’re looking for nicknames, [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is very sweet.

[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]: [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] is so beautiful in both languages, and reminds me of [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] in that it’s strong yet pretty and feminine. Plus, it’s two syllables like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] are.

[name_f]Carolina[/name_f]: This might be pronounced like “South [name_f]Carolina[/name_f]” at first in English, but it’s such a pretty, elegant name in both languages and has a similar rhythm to many of the names on your list.

[name_f]Estela[/name_f]: Beautiful in English and Spanish, and it feels glamorous like [name_f]Serena[/name_f], [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], etc. without being pretentious or over-the-top.

[name_f]Eva[/name_f]: If your husband loves [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], but it’s too long for you, maybe [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is a nice compromise. It has that strong ‘v’ sound but without all the frilliness at the end. And it has a long history of usage both in Latin [name_u]America[/name_u] and in the United States. And it’s two syllables like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f].

[name_f]Flora[/name_f]: Maybe too old-ladyish for you? But I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is a beautiful name and isn’t really strongly tied to any past decade in the US. It’s similar to [name_f]Laura[/name_f] but it’s a bit more lively, and it sounds beautiful in English and Spanish. It could be short for a name like [name_f]Florencia[/name_f].

[name_f]Luna[/name_f]: Has the same soft, pretty sound as [name_f]Laura[/name_f], but it isn’t strongly tied to the '80s like [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is. It also works beautifully in both English and Spanish.

[name_f]Marina[/name_f]: Similar to [name_f]Serena[/name_f], but less similar to [name_f]Celina[/name_f] than [name_f]Serena[/name_f], and doesn’t have the Gossip Girl connotation. I think it’s beautiful in Spanish; it’s in the top 40 in Spain. If this feels too soft, maybe you could consider [name_f]Martina[/name_f], since it’s similar to [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] but less long.

Good luck finding the names, and congratulations!

It’s tough finding names that are equally beautiful in more than one language! I understand your frustration.

That being said, I think you have the right idea already with most of the names on your list. Although some may lean more towards one side or the other, English/Spanish, most work fairly well in both. The one exception to that may be [name_f]Ximena[/name_f], which is gorgeous, but would likely confuse a lot of people. Also I think you can eliminate [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] for being too long, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] for being too trendy, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] for pronunciation issues, and [name_f]Serena[/name_f] because I do think it is too close to your name.

That leaves [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f], and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], which are all lovely choices, although maybe not quite right. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is very popular right now, and you would likely meet many over the years, which sounds like something that may bother you. Perhaps [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], similar but slightly less popular? [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f] is also sweet, but I agree with your husband that the -linda ending feels awkward in English. However, another [name_f]Ros[/name_f]- name, such as [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalba[/name_f], or [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] would easily fix that issue. I would even argue that you could use [name_f]Rosita[/name_f] as a full given name. It’s an unusual choice in Spanish, of course, as a full name, but I think in an English-speaking country the vast majority of people wouldn’t even bat an eye. [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] I think is the one name from your list that is pretty close to perfect on its own, and needs no adjusting.

A few other suggestions:
If [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] feel like too much, what about [name_f]Valeria[/name_f] or [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]? Both of those names are similar, which might please your husband, but are definitely spunkier and more modern, and feel right next to [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]/Máxima.

Perhaps [name_f]Elena[/name_f] or [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]? They give me the same impression as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but are slightly less popular.

Again as a replacement for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], how about [name_u]Andrea[/name_u]? I realize that it feels slightly dated like [name_f]Laura[/name_f], but my SO has a little cousin named [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] and it is just the most adorable name on her.

What about [name_f]Paula[/name_f]? I’m not sure why, but it seems to find the line between the more traditional names on your list like [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], and the more trendy names like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

I saw that others suggested [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], and I will second that name. It feels very at home next to [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], and is both modern and classic at the same time.

All in all I would suggest focusing on names that are Spanish-language names that work in English as well, or at least on names that end in -a, in an effort to avoid a [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]/Máxima situation.

My favorite combinations for you are:
[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Rosita[/name_f] and [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] (my absolute favorite)
[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] and [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Paula[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. However, they seem a bit tame next to [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about:

[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalba[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]

I love Leo and Maxine! From your list I like Rosalinda, Ximena, and Cecilia. I also love the suggestions of Amalia, Bianca, and Claudia.

Other ideas:

Alba
Ines
Isadora
Luciana
Nadia
Vera

Hello again everyone! My husband and I have been discussing your comments and suggestions for over a week now and it’s been really helpful. We’ve decided to use [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as a middle name for baby A and [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] for baby B. We are still working on the first names and will be sure to let you all know when the girls are here. Thanks ever so much!

[name_f]Serena[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] And [name_f]Maria[/name_f]
I know that those two names weren’t on there but I love these Latin names. Im using [name_f]Elena[/name_f] for sure if I have one. Your so lucky health and wellness to you and your growing family.

Since you are starting the mns with A, I’m trying to go with fns that do not end with A because it can get a little sing-song-y sounding ([name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]). My favorites for you are [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Candace[/name_f] [name_f]Amaia[/name_f].
