My husband and I are finding it very hard to find the right order/flow/feel for the names we like. I need some inspiration! The names we like are, [name]Lawrence[/name], [name]Rupert[/name] or [name]Alexander[/name] for a FN. At this stage I’m leaning heavily towards [name]Lawrence[/name] (I prefer this spelling to [name]Laurence[/name] because I have a cousin named [name]Lauren[/name]) and the popularity of [name]Alexander[/name] in Australia puts me off. Middle names we are really stuck thought! We have a longish list but nothing feels right. Our daughter’s have only 1 middle name but if it’s a boy we are thinking of having 2. All the middles name choices are family names. I feel like we have to use [name]Charles[/name] and I would like to then use a name from my side of the family but nothing sounds or flows right. Any help would be wonderful!
So FN - [name]Lawrence[/name], [name]Rupert[/name] or [name]Alexander[/name]
Middle Name:
[name]Charles[/name] (Family name of DH side, that has been used for 8 generations, not sure I want to break the tradition even though I hate it)
[name]Alexander[/name] (Also a family name, but my side, if we don’t use for FN)
[name]Gavin[/name] (Family name, my side)
[name]Harris[/name] (My Maiden Name)
Stark (Family name, my side)
[name]Ian[/name](Family name, my side)
Hmm…
Personally I’m not keen on [name]Lawrence[/name] I find him long winded and personally I’m not keen on the fact that [name]Lawrence[/name] is a lengthy name yet doesn’t have a natural nickname. It could potentially create problems in the future. I find [name]Rupert[/name] a little pretentious, I mean he is a classic and does have the nickname ‘[name]Rue[/name]’ but he just doesn’t appeal to me. I love vintage names like [name]Alfred[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] but for me they either have to have a nickname that feels more modern or isn’t out their. My favourite is [name]Alexander[/name]. Yes he is popular not only in Australia but almost everywhere and this could be a downside of the name yet I don’t think it should be because the name is ultimately a timely classic and just works effortlessly well. I also love the range of nicknames.
My favourite middle name choices:
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] - sounds so collective and handsome
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Harris[/name] - I like the unusual surname choice of [name]Harris[/name] with [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] Stark - oozes masculinity

My favourite by far on your list is [name]Rupert[/name], followed by [name]Lawrence[/name], then [name]Alexander[/name] (although it is a nice name, there is just an abundance of both boys and girls named [name]Alex[/name] at the moment).
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Harris[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Ian[/name] [name]Harris[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Harris[/name]
or with [name]Lawrence[/name]
[name]Lawrence[/name] [name]Ian[/name] [name]Charles[/name] or [name]Lawrence[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lawrence[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
Although I don’t think any of the mns sound as good or flow as well as they do with [name]Rupert[/name].
[name]Hope[/name] this helps!
I like [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] ([name]How[/name] crazy is it that I never considered that before!?!?) Now I have to run that by my husband and se what he thinks. [name]Laurence[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is probably the name my husband likes best as he keeps brining it up.
[name]Alexander[/name] is inside the top 20 most popular names here (and rising!) so that really does put me off. My favourite combo ever though has been [name]Alexander[/name] Stark for a long time. It really doesn’t feel right though. I don’t mind a top 100 if I love it or top even 50 name choice but top 20 really does make me feel like he would be another [name]Alexander[/name].
I would like to maybe try a combo with [name]Gavin[/name] in it but I feel like they all sound choppy and harsh. I also couldn’t put [name]Gavin[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name].
You have some great names here! The problem with using [name]Lawrence[/name] and [name]Charles[/name] together is that they both end in the -s sound and this makes it hard to say/not flow well (same problem with putting [name]Harris[/name] with one of them too). Personally, I wouldn’t break the [name]Charles[/name] tradition, but using it may mean you have to let go of [name]Lawrence[/name]. I would pick [name]Rupert[/name] over [name]Alexander[/name] because of the popularity factor, but they are both good names. I do like [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] too and hopefully that’s a winner for you both.
Another name I thought of was [name]Roland[/name]-- it has some similar sounds to [name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Lawrence[/name]-- you could even spell it [name]Rowland[/name].
[name]Rowland[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Roland[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name] [name]Charles[/name] or [name]Gavin[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] works well too.
Some other possible combinations:
[name]Ian[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Ian[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name] Stark [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Gavin[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
My husband says [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is out. He has previously said he liked [name]Rupert[/name] but has ruled it out because our surname begins with R. I like the alliteration but her says it makes the name sound like a cartoon character.
So far it looks like [name]Lawrence[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is the only combination we agree on. It is growing on me
I was talking about it with my sister today and she likes it too.
