Need Name Help

[name]Hi[/name], I posted a similar topic a few months ago for at the time an as yet to be conceived child . . .well i’m reposting because let’s just say the as yet to be conceived part is no longer applicable.

We need help with Cowboy/Cowgirl Names. I’m looking for a boy or girl. [name]Both[/name] me and the hubby train horses for a living and he rodeo’s. For a girl we are looking for something that will age well and has a bit of a cute, spunky feel to it, not overly prissy. For a boy something suitable for a cute baby but a good strong male name as well. We are looking for something with a cowboy/cowgirl feel, but still fresh and not grannyish or old fashioned. Classic is welcome but outdated is not. And please no kitschy names like nellie, dolly . . .etc (yes both of us are picky hence the trouble we’re having) it’s easier for us to find names we don’t like instead of names we do like, which is making this seem imposable and i’m having nightmares of being forced to name my child no name . …

(names like [name]Ethel[/name],[name]Ruby[/name], [name]Martha[/name] are much to granny while emma, molly, dolly and such are to kitschy. lol I guess we are extremly picky hence why I need help, But I’m open to all suggestions! I do have a few “requests/guidelines” :

  1. Please no names with a strong O sound like [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Wynonna[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] or Beu, I really dislike those names
  2. No very biblical names, we are not very religious
  3. No City/ State names like [name]Austin[/name] or [name]Denver[/name] or [name]Arizona[/name], I can’t stand the name austin and everyone always suggests it.
  4. No flower / Gemstone names like [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Rose[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] or [name]Ruby[/name] I always feel they are very old fashioned and tired.

Also I don’t believe in naming a child after their parents (that’s how 75 percent of my family is named [name]James[/name], [name]Stephan[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Anne[/name]) however middle names are fine.

That being said, my first name is [name]Allison[/name] though i go by [name]Ally[/name]. Hubby’s first name is [name]Shawn[/name] (he ideally wants to name a son after him and his father and grandfather but his family also suffers from over used names, many of which are currently being used by his nieces and nephews, those names include every form of [name]Michael[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Gabriele[/name], and [name]Charles[/name] imaginable. And neither of us like those names anyway, though i have no problem with shawn as a middle name or even as a first name so long as the baby goes by his middle name.

For each name there will be two middle names
Please give your opinions and feel free to offer suggestions I would love to have more to choose from

Girls list so far

[name]Jessie[/name] - (always hated jessica always loved, loved jessie for a girl
never for a boy though)

[name]Kaleigh[/name] - (to me it’s very close to what we’re looking for, spunky,
sweet, and cute but now very overused)

[name]Casey[/name] - Hubby’s suggestion i think it’s ok for a girl really don’t like for a boy though

[name]Anne[/name] - ( I really love this for a middle name as my family has
overused it for a first name) + [name]Anne[/name] of green gables, not
crazy bout the meaning

[name]Elizabeth[/name] - (hubby really wants this, and i love it, but again my family
has also over used it, I’m thinking maybe a middle name)

  • [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Bennet[/name] from pride & pred, [name]Elizabeth[/name] the 1st,
again not crazy bout it’s meaning though

[name]Blaze[/name] - (love it for a girl, hate it for a boy)

[name]Taylor[/name] - (cute, and sassy to me, though i wonder bout the taylor
swift and unisex thing)

[name]Tracey[/name] - (lol my middle name, but i’m thinking the old west outlaw
harry tracey - an ancestor on my father’s side of the family
and yes my father gave me that mn because of him, so
before anyone mentions naming a kid after a bad guy I was
always very proud to have that name and the history
behind it.) + love the meaning

[name]Shania[/name] (love it’s meaning and the native american flair but no nn)

[name]Aislinn[/name] (not cowgirlish, but i love it, and i love it’s meaning)

[name]Ariella[/name] (not cowgirlish but lovely)

[name]Aurora[/name] (not cowgirlish but love it and love it’s meaning and the NN [name]Rory[/name] is cute and sassy and could be very cowgirlish)

[name]Jodie[/name]

[name]Cheyenne[/name] ( i know i said no city names but i love this name)

Crickett

Alireen - ( a name invented by me and hubby we combined and played with the sounds of my name and the name of a dear friend [name]Ian[/name] (was killed in Iraq) I rather like its sound it’s pronounced like [name]Allison[/name] but instead of the son there’s the R with a long E sound like read)

[name]Isabella[/name] - (one of the few names that to me seems classic but not
dated, nn for [name]Izzy[/name], but am leaning away from it
with all this Twilight craze and because of how popular it is)

for Boys: (before anyone suggests i can’t stand the names wyatt, or austin! lol every time i mention cowboy names to anyone those are the ones that pop out first)

[name]Ryan[/name] -( I have always always loved this name one of my favorites
and I love the meaning, and sound and well yes it’s been over used in the past but . … still in love with it)

[name]James[/name] (love it ! to me very classic, without being dated, strong, but cute for a little boy, however . . .::sigh:: very overused in my family and hubby’s not a fan)

[name]Jayson[/name]

[name]Jackson[/name] (getting passed [name]Michael[/name] [name]Jackson[/name] I love the versatility in this
name )

[name]Justin[/name]
[name]Blake[/name] (love for a boy hate it for girl)
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Colt[/name]
[name]Cody[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name]
[name]Wessley[/name]
[name]Kian[/name]
[name]Skyler[/name]
[name]Trace[/name]
[name]Connor[/name]
[name]Chase[/name] - a friend suggested haven’t decided how i feel about it yet
[name]Griffin[/name]

Also how do you feel about 2 middle names ? Hubby dosn’t have one so the baby can make up for his lack of one  like [name]Jessie[/name]- [name]Anne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Kaleigh[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Ally[/name],
Might I ask, when you said you train horses, what disciplines do you train?
(It might give us some additional insight into your style and personality.)
For example:
Pleasure - calm, serene, peaceful
Barrels - fun, spunky, adventurous
Cutting - intense, focused, determined
Roping - strong, steadfast, grounded

Maybe try looking at names that were in use in the time of the Old [name]West[/name]?

Some highlights of the 1880 name list - the boys are way more interesting. I particularly like [name]Barton[/name] - gives the very Western [name]Bart[/name] without the awkward-looking [name]Bartholomew[/name].

[name]Hi[/name]! From your list, my favorites are [name]Anne[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Aurora[/name] (nn [name]Rory[/name]), [name]James[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], and [name]Wesley[/name].

No long O sounds (I hope short O sounds were okay) or gem names:

[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Blaise[/name]
[name]Clifton[/name]
[name]Clayton[/name]
[name]Cooper[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Lawson[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Marshall[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]
[name]Wilson[/name]
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Wilder[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]

Your criteria for the girls names seem more subjective to me, so I’m sorry if I goofed:

Random names I can see on a cowgirl:

[name]Belle[/name]: I think of [name]Belle[/name] [name]Starr[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]/[name]Gracie[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Nell[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]

Names that remind me of [name]Kaley[/name]/[name]Casey[/name]:

[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Ashby[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Carlin[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name]
[name]Kirby[/name]
[name]Marley[/name]
[name]Paisley[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]

Oh! [name]Carly[/name] and [name]Cassidy[/name] also remind me of [name]Kaley[/name]/[name]Casey[/name] and some of the other names on your list…

Names that remind me of [name]Jessie[/name]:

[name]Addie[/name]
[name]Bess[/name]/[name]Bessie[/name]
[name]Cassie[/name]
[name]Callie[/name]
[name]Josie[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Sosie[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]

I apologize if I broke any of the rules!

Take care!

lol i’m afraid i’m going to make this hard, i train a bit of all the above including some trail, reining western riding, and hunt seat (hunt seat is NOT my favorite), What the owner wants as well as what the horse is best suited for dictate the training program for each individual client and their horse. However my personal forte’s and those I enjoy the most are; Barrel Racing, Reining, Pleasure, and Cutting

See that’s the problem hubby and I are having we’ve done that, and haven’t really liked most of the names, they are usually far to old fashioned or what i call grannyish. or as in the case of [name]Bart[/name] to Kitschy. I suppose we’re looking for “contemporary cowboy/cowgirl”

[name]Jessie[/name] is a cute nickname for a girl, as is [name]Jess[/name]. I agree with you about [name]Jessica[/name], though, especially since it is very dated now. What about [name]Jessamine[/name]? [name]Jessamine[/name] is a French name meaning “jasmine flower,” and I think the natural meaning is cute and befitting of a little cowgirl! I know you don’t like O names or gemstone names, but I thought that [name]Opal[/name] would be cute - it is vintage without being too grandmotherly, and it would only be a middle name. [name]Opal[/name] means “precious gem,” and I’m sure that is what a daughter would be for you! Finally, to round out the country-western name, what about putting in [name]Cheyenne[/name]? You mentioned it was your favorite city name, and I like that it is a Native American name. So, I’d choose:

[name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Opal[/name] [name]Cheyenne[/name] “[name]Jessie[/name]”

OR [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Rory[/name] [name]Cheyenne[/name] “[name]Jessie[/name]”

For a boy, I’m a little bit stuck. I think that the nickname [name]Gus[/name] would be really cute for a little boy - I know a little [name]Gus[/name], and he is adorable! I like the French name, [name]Augustin[/name], which means “great,” to get to that [name]Gus[/name] nickname. I also really like [name]Burke[/name], which I regard as a strong, handsome name for a boy! Might you like [name]Dashiell[/name] (dah-SHEEL), a name meaning “page boy”? [name]Dash[/name] is an absolute darling nickname - and, it seems like it would fit a boy running around on a farm! So, I’d choose:

[name]Augustin[/name] [name]Wesley[/name] [name]James[/name] “[name]Gus[/name]”
[name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Jameson[/name] [name]Cody[/name] “[name]Dash[/name]”

Good luck!

[name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Jordana[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Danica[/name]
[name]Cecelia[/name]
[name]Katrina[/name]

What about the name [name]Pippa[/name]? It means lover of horses and is super spunky.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Luella[/name] for a girl? Her nickname can be [name]Lu[/name]/[name]Lou[/name] and I think that fits a little cowgirl.

For a boy, how about [name]Brice[/name]?

[name]Hi[/name]! I have a few suggestions to offer.

Girls:
[name]Callie[/name]- means beautiful. I definitely think of a little cowgirl, but also a sophisticated women.
[name]Sadie[/name]- also think of a cowgirl

Boys:
[name]Preston[/name]- this name just came to me when reading your post. I don’t know if the ‘O’ sound is to predominant or not though.
[name]Levi[/name]- also just came to mind.
[name]Rex[/name]- could be a nickname as well.

Good luck finding the perfect name  I don’t think there is anything wrong with having two middle names.

Boys:

[name]Ryder[/name]
[name]Boone[/name]
[name]Boden[/name] ([name]Bo[/name] for a nickname)

Girls:

[name]Haven[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] (this could be a boy name too)
[name]Paisley[/name] (love this name)

[name]Hi[/name] everyone! thank you all for the suggestions i have read through them all, so far these are our favorites out of all the names you all have suggested, these will be added to our list of possibilities. Let me know if anyone has any other suggestions i really appreciate this.
What do you all think of the names that we already had selected as possibilities?

Names to be added to the “list”

Girls:

[name]Callie[/name]
[name]Addie[/name] ( we like this as a nickname but it seems a bit incomplete and
[name]Addison[/name] is far the close to my own name)
[name]Jessamine[/name] - ( [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name]!!!,well i do he’s not sold )
[name]Alanna[/name] - (name of my favorite heroine as a child! don’t know why i
didn’t think of it)
[name]Piper[/name]

[name]Ella[/name]

Boys:

[name]Landon[/name]
[name]Weston[/name] (this is growing on me)
[name]Blaine[/name]

[name]Levi[/name] is very over used in our area and the baby’s going to have two cousins who already have that name, and i can’t get passed the jeans thing. [name]Porter[/name] was cute at first but hubby mad a big stink about [name]Porter[/name] Potty, i suppose he does have a point.

BTW what does anyone think about the name Alireen? I rather like its sound it’s pronounced like [name]Allison[/name] but instead of the “son” there’s the R with a long E sound like read

Alireen is different, I wouldn’t use it for a first name. It reminds me of other names that I like much better, like [name]Aileen[/name] and [name]Irene[/name]. [name]Aliana[/name] would combine [name]Ali[/name] and [name]Ian[/name]. If you want to incorporate [name]Ian[/name] and [name]Shawn[/name] into a name you could use [name]Shianne[/name], it’s just a different spelling of [name]Cheyenne[/name]. Good luck finding the right name.

bumping

I was wondering if you might like the name [name]Cora[/name]?

I like the combo [name]Cora[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Anne[/name] for you (and you have nn options of [name]Cora[/name], [name]Cory[/name], or [name]Jessie[/name]).

I wasn’t involved with the original discussion of your names but I’ll comment on the list that you’ve got! I like the names you’ve chosen a lot, and as a picky namer I know where you’re coming from.

[name]Callie[/name] - I really love [name]Callie[/name]. I think it’s adorable and nice on an adult as well. If you go by [name]Ally[/name], having a daughter named [name]Callie[/name] could get confusing though, so keep that in mind.

[name]Addie[/name] - this is a great nickname. I agree that it needs to be a nickname for a longer name, if [name]Addison[/name] is too close, then maybe [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Adelyn[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adina[/name] or [name]Adelaide[/name]. Some of those probably aren’t your style but I listed them just in case.

[name]Jessamine[/name]- very cool and a great alternative to [name]Jessica[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Jessie[/name], super cute. It reminds me of the cowgirl in [name]Toy[/name] [name]Story[/name], which is not a bad thing, since I loved that movie!

[name]Alanna[/name] - different from your other names and not my favorite. I guess it just seems a bit bland to me.

[name]Piper[/name]- sooo cute and spunky! I liked the suggestion of [name]Pippa[/name], since it means lover of horses, but [name]Piper[/name] brings to mind a similar image.

[name]Landon[/name]- a nice, solid name for a boy. doesn’t feel “cowboy” to me, but it’s still a great name.

[name]Weston[/name]- definitely more cowboyish, obviously. I like this, plus the nicknames [name]West[/name] and [name]Wes[/name] are really cute.

[name]Blaine[/name]- cute, simple and strong!

hope that helps!

[name]Sarah[/name] - [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Sally[/name]
[name]Adele[/name], adelaide - [name]Addie[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name] - [name]Dot[/name], [name]Dottie[/name], [name]Dolly[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Lottie[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name] - [name]Cassie[/name]
[name]Henrietta[/name] - [name]Hattie[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] - [name]Maisy[/name]
[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] - [name]Sunny[/name]

[name]Henry[/name] - [name]Hank[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] - [name]Chuck[/name]
[name]Richard[/name] - [name]Rick[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Russell[/name] - [name]Russ[/name]

For a boy- definitley [name]Nathan[/name]! The [name]Nathan[/name] in my life asspires to be a cowboy, except we live in the city so it doesnt really work out  He is a hard worker, likes to be ‘tough and manly’ but is just a big teddy bear in reality, i think. [name]Nate[/name] is a cute nickname. My cousin is also named [name]Nathan[/name]. All good associations in my mind! Never met a bad [name]Nate[/name].

Well . . .turns out it’s twins, don’t know the sex yet. I’m not sure if I’m excited or terrified, hubby handled the news better than me he’s got this big grin, i want to slap him! . . .he doesn’t have to be pregnant with two babies in the middle of the blistering hot summer and have to figure out how to do his job at the same time . . . .

sorry all!! can I blame the ranting on hormones? oh well my mother is bouncing off walls. . . this is a very [name]Happy[/name] [name]Easter[/name] for her now. . . anyways! thanks everyone so much for the suggestions. Coarse on the flip side now we need to agree on two names and we can’t even manage agreeing on one lol.

ok here’s the updated official list!

Also how do you feel about 2 middle names ? Hubby doesn’t have one so the babies can make up for his lack of one  like [name]Jessie[/name]- [name]Anne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Kaleigh[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
