Hello, everyone! I have three character’s names settled, but I can’t decide on the middle names in particular. Also, I have one particular character who is trans* and will eventually have his pre-transitional name mentioned, and I’d like some input on what would be better than the quick, easy option I went for when I lost my notes! Here are the names I’ve got!:
Main Character: [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_m]Butler[/name_m]**
[name_u]Love[/name_u] Interest: [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] [name_m]Rodriguez[/name_m]
Best [name_m]Friend[/name_m]: [name_u]Kai[/name_u] Mendoza
The name I want to change is [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I feel that maybe it is no longer suited and that it doesn’t flow well compared to the other character’s I have that are consistent characters throughout the book.
I’m looking for something that either has more than two syllables or is considered more of an “antique” or “classic” name to pair with [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
Some names I am considering are:

- [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
- [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
- [name_u]Jean[/name_u]
** I also feel that a different surname would be in order. Any suggestions for that would also be very helpful and appreciated! **
[name_f]Madonna[/name_f] needs a middle name, and I want it to be a bit outlandish. Something unique and a bit off-putting. Her parents weren’t exactly in the right state of mind when they had her, and named her based off of silly ideas, idolizations and things they enjoyed while they were in their “nineties pot-head phase” as she would so eloquently put it.
To be fair, the crazier, more provocative the better in this case! I try to imagine her coolly explaining her name to [name_f]Iris[/name_f], the prim and proper one of the pair and while [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] is calm, cool and collected all the while [name_f]Iris[/name_f]'s face slowly begins to contort with disbelief and uncertainty as if she is getting Punk’d.

- [name_u]Gray[/name_u]/[name_u]Grey[/name_u]
- [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
- [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f]
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] needs a new middle name, but I am not opposed to a gender neutral name that he would have opted to keep.
I don’t have any real thoughts on a middle name for him that he would pick to keep along side the name [name_u]Kai[/name_u], or one that would somehow tie into his background. So anything goes for this one!
As for his pre-transition name, I was thinking:

sorry. I would suggest looking for names that he would naturally choose (since he is essentially naming himself). Like, is there someone he would name himself after? A name with a meaning that resonates with him? A name he just likes?
