I’ve started working on a short story (my first in nearly a year!), and I’m having some trouble naming the three main characters.
The story takes place at a summer camp on a lake (based off of Saranac [name_u]Lake[/name_u] in NY), that has this sort of cross-lake rivalry with another summer camp, only the other camp is being run by aliens who have brainwashed the campers, and are trying to take over the world. Only the main characters are aware of the aliens.
MC#1:
Girl, about 13/14 years old, twin of MC#2. [name_m]Light[/name_m] blond hair that goes just past her shoulders, short for her age, but don’t underestimate her strength. She’s very book smart and is the voice of reason among the MCs. Back home, she’s fairly popular at school and is involved in a number of clubs, takes ballet. Her brother is her best friend and her biggest ally, and she has the slightest crush on MC#3, but she wouldn’t admit it in a million years.
Who named/background: Parents named her. From [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] City, upper middle class prep school background. Father is a literary agent, mother used to be a dancer but retired. They like classic, British names, maybe nature or literary. Considered: [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Jemma[/name_f]
MC#2:
Boy, about 13/14 years old, twin of MC#1. Short, neat brown hair, about average height. Reads comic books like they’re the bible, and plays video games like his life depends on it. Smart but lazy, shows signs of being a bit of a cloud cuckoolander and complains that the world isn’t like the sci-fi books he reads (until he gets to camp). Bunkmate to MC#3, his sister is his best and only friend until he meets MC#3.

MC#3:
Boy, about 14/15 years old. [name_m]Messy[/name_m], slightly curly brown hair, taller than MC#2 but still about average height. This is his second year at the camp, he’s the one that originally notices the aliens. The twins are his only friends at camp, others tend to think he’s odd. Bunkmate to MC#2, they have a lot in common.
Who named/background: [name_m]Born[/name_m] to a single mother just out of college, father was out of the picture before he was born. Spent first 8/9 years living in a commune/intentional community similar to this one here , before moving to a small city near the summer camp where his mom got a law degree. I keep wanting to name him [name_f]Garnet[/name_f], thinking names that are unusual or eccentric, but still wearable.
