My husband and I are having a rough time with boy names. We’re finally pregnant and all of a sudden the name we agreed on is making me a bit nervous ([name]Milo[/name] [name]James[/name]). We do have a short list, but it seems like each of the names have at least something about them that I’m not sure of and I’m having a difficult time expanding the list. Can anyone make suggestions based on our short list? Comments on our short list are welcome as well.
[name]Milo[/name] - This is DH favorite. It took a lot of convincing to get him to like this name. All of sudden, I’ve become not so sure about it. I love the sound, but worry it’s not familiar enough. Not popular, but familiar.
[name]Silas[/name] - I love this name. DH is not so sold. To him it sounds wimpy. I love it for the literary associations and I think it fits well with all the little [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Eli[/name], and [name]Isaiah[/name] out there.
[name]Henry[/name] - This is the only other name that we can both agree on. I’m not sure how popular this name is going to get though. As a classic, I’m not sure it matters either.
[name]Leo[/name] - I tried this one as a compromise between [name]Levi[/name] and [name]Milo[/name]. DH says it’s ok, but not great. I’m starting to agree with him.
[name]Levi[/name] - Honestly, for the last 8 years this has been our #1 name for a boy. Now DH is worried it might be too “cowboy”. I initially liked it for it’s quirky old time sound. The cowboy thing didn’t even occur to me until DH mentioned it.
Our middle name for all of these is [name]James[/name]. It’s my husband’s name. My husband would prefer [name]Atticus[/name], but using his name as the middle name has become really important to me, so he gave me that one.
[name]Milo[/name]: I think [name]Milo[/name] [name]James[/name] is very handsome…
[name]Silas[/name]: I think that [name]Silas[/name] is really handsome, too, but when I say [name]Silas[/name] [name]Wade[/name] out loud, the s sound from [name]Silas[/name] attaches to [name]Wade[/name], and I hear Sila Swade, which sounds like the word “suede” to me. It may just be me, though! (Because [name]James[/name] ends in a z sound, I don’t hear “suede” like I do with [name]Silas[/name].)
[name]Henry[/name] [name]James[/name]: I love [name]Henry[/name] so much!!! It’s my favorite boys’ name. Yes, it’s gotten popular (it’s #78 now), but to me, it feels timeless.
[name]Leo[/name]: I love [name]Leo[/name], but it sounds like it’s not the name for you…
[name]Levi[/name]: I think it’s really handsome…
Some more you may like:
[name]Elliot[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Wade[/name] (Nickname [name]Eli[/name], which has the long I sound of [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Levi[/name]. [name]Leo[/name] could be another nickname, if you decide it may work for you.)
[name]Gideon[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Wade[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Wade[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Wade[/name]
My favorite are [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Silas[/name]. I would name him [name]Milo[/name] [name]Silas[/name] [name]Wade[/name]. That name to me signifies cute, strong and a leader.
[name]How[/name] about [name]Miles[/name] [name]Jameson[/name]?
[name]Miles[/name] is similar to [name]Milo[/name], but it is more recognizable as a name, I think, and a bit toned down. [name]Milo[/name] is cute, but I can understand your concern about it feeling a little out there. To me, [name]Milo[/name] might not age well, and it sounds sort of like a pet’s name. [name]Miles[/name] on the other hand has a much more classic sound.
[name]Jameson[/name] is a good alternative to [name]James[/name] if you go with [name]Miles[/name] because the flow is less than ideal to have two one syllable names that end with s back to back. [name]Jameson[/name] is not only a variant of [name]James[/name], but also means [name]James[/name]’ son so it works especially nicely for a boy being named after his Dad.
Why not [name]Atticus[/name] [name]James[/name]? That’s a very handsome name and a familiar literary character, so it’s different without being ‘out there’ and you both can agree on the names.
I think “[name]Miles[/name] [name]Jameson[/name]” is a great suggestion. I especially like the “[name]James[/name] [name]Son[/name]” idea for the middle name.
I absolutely adore [name]Milo[/name] [name]James[/name]! [name]Henry[/name] would be my second runner up but I think you should go with [name]Milo[/name] since that was your initial gut instinct. Good luck to you!
