Need names for a single mother and her child! Please help!

I’m writing yet another story for my Fiction class and have decided to take up a very personal subject. I’m writing about a little girl with cancer (I do not have any children, nor am I a single mother, that part is all fiction), and how her single mother has to deal with it. The problem is that the names that come to mind are the real life names of the people who inspired the characters so I’m hoping you berries can help me out!

The mother is 27 years old and is studying to be a RN (nurse). She’d never been focused on school when she was younger and had dropped out of highschool, it wasn’t until after her daughter was born that she realized the value of an education and went back to get her [name]GED[/name] and start up nursing. She’s a strong woman who has to deal with raising a 5 year old all by herself. Her family isn’t really around and the daugher’s father might as well be none exsistant so she picks up the slack. She’s devestated after finding out her daughter has cancer and constantly thinks it’s her fault although she knows better, but has to hide it and be strong. She’s a petite brunette with brown eyes.

The daughter is five years old and has red hair, like her ‘father’ and her mother’s brown eyes. She’s a vivacious little girl and is curious about everything. She doesn’t really understand that she’s sick and gets frustrated when her body slows her down. She’s terrified of needles and constantly tries to hide when it’s time to go to the hospital, despite the playground and the friend’s she’s made there.

Any help you guys could give me on this would be great! Thanks in advance!

I’d like to thank everyone for their suggestiongs. I couldn’t end up writing the story. I feel back into my usual war story (civil war this time, the main character’s name was [name]Ira[/name] Abernathy which I love.) where I’m more comfortable. You all were amazing though! Maybe after some time has past I can revisit this story.
