[name]Just[/name] looking for some new suggestions. All names I love have something wrong with them, usually too similar to my other children’s names or don’t work with surname. So I’ll give you a list of names I love and can you suggest some things you might think I would like based on them.
[name]Alba[/name] - top choice but too similar to DD’s name, will probably be a middle name
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Juna[/name]
[name]Azure[/name]
[name]Juno[/name]
[name]Ione[/name]
Lumi - will probably be the Finnish second middle name
[name]Delphi[/name]
Chrysanth
[name]Eira[/name]
Eirlys
[name]Mara[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Rona[/name]
I like unusual names, but DP doesn’t want it too out there or open to teasing. Also like nature, Celtic and Scandinavian names, but am welcome to other suggestions. Prefer non-frilly, non-biblical and non-traditional.
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Willa[/name] - love this but too close to DD
[name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Aster[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Xanthe[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Ana[/name]ïs - love this but no one will be able to say it or spell it right
[name]Luna[/name] - love this but DP won’t let me use
Runa
Elowen
[name]Zoia[/name]
Eirys - love this but the spelling is too complicated, would use [name]Iris[/name], but too popular where I am and surname begins with S
[name]Orchid[/name]
[name]Neve[/name]
[name]Jude[/name] - love this on a boy
[name]Bronwen[/name] - one of DP’s fave names but I just don’t like

[name]Wren[/name] I think [name]Wren[/name] is going to end up being a really trendy name that will be here today and gone tomorrow. What about another bird name namely [name]Robin[/name]? She has been around for a long time and yet because she hasn’t been seen lately seems fresh again.
[name]Iris[/name] A flower name and it is nice enough although I like [name]Isla[/name] a lot more but it may be too frilly for you in which case I think [name]Imogen[/name] with the middle name of [name]Kate[/name] makes a smart, non frilly combo without compromising it at all, this is a favourite of mine.
[name]Maeve[/name] She is lovely and I think she will be around for a while I always see her with a [name]Gwendolyn[/name] both sweet names.
[name]Tamsin[/name]If you can get over the possible nn of [name]Tammy[/name] then it is a good choice and less frilly than [name]Tamara[/name]
[name]Juna[/name]Not a fan at all of this one. I think [name]Jane[/name] is a great alternative.
[name]Azure[/name]This doesn’t inspire me although I love an azure blue sea (a view I see everyday) What about [name]Alexa[/name]?
[name]Juno[/name] No too much like junior I like [name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Harriet[/name] instead.
[name]Ione[/name]I have to admit that my favourite old Greek name is now [name]Xanthe[/name] since I have a beautiful golden haired gdaughter with this name, combo of [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Paige[/name]
Lumi - will probably be the Finnish second middle name Good choice [name]Anna[/name] Lumi
[name]Delphi[/name]I prefer [name]Delphine[/name] and [name]Petra[/name]
Chrysanth no but give me the whimsical [name]Bluebell[/name] instead
[name]Eira[/name]The old name for [name]Ireland[/name]?
Eirlys Depending where you live it could be a first or middle I prefer Airlie
[name]Mara[/name]I like [name]Maren[/name], [name]Marissa[/name] and [name]Marion[/name] more
[name]Rowan[/name]Nice not stunning
[name]Rona[/name]I prefer [name]Rhoda[/name] and [name]Ruth[/name]
Thanks,
[name]Eira[/name] is Welsh for snow, but also connected to the Norse goddess [name]Eir[/name]. It would work well in Finland, but not in [name]West[/name] of [name]Scotland[/name] where it is too close to [name]Eire[/name], the name for [name]Ireland[/name]. DP is worried about the Catholic/Protestant problems that name brings up. sigh.
[name]Isla[/name] is mega popular and I’m not crazy about it. I prefer Isola, but don’t think I could sell DP. [name]Imogen[/name] is too old fashioned for me.
I like [name]Xanthe[/name] and almost had DP sold on it for a middle name last baby. Need to rethink that one.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Tess[/name], not [name]Tessa[/name], and I have a cousin [name]Tessa[/name].
[name]Don[/name]'t like the name [name]Tammy[/name], so wouldn’t use [name]Tamara[/name]. Would use Sini or Sinikka as a nn for [name]Tamsin[/name], it’s Finnish for blue. DP and I both like [name]Tamsin[/name], but he’s not sold on it.
I don’t like [name]Robin[/name] and know a few here in Finland, odd. Prefer [name]Lark[/name], but have the same problem as one of the issues with [name]Wren[/name], one syllables. I really don’t like saying them.
won’t use [name]Jane[/name] as it’s [name]MIL[/name]'s name. and too plain for me. Same with [name]Ruth[/name].
DP likes [name]Gwen[/name] and I kind of like [name]Gwyneth[/name], but not that fond of them.
I know a [name]Sari[/name] and an Indali and these are pretty names probably [name]Indian[/name] they sound a bit hippie to me. You might like [name]Miri[/name] too or [name]Mirin[/name] (aka [name]Helen[/name] [name]Mirin[/name]).
I just looked up Finnish lakes and the third largest lake is named Inari. I think that makes a pretty girl’s name, and it’s easy to say. I have just read that Inari [name]Saami[/name] is spoken in Northern Finland so not sure if Inari was a good suggestion but I like it. Goodie I have just found out that it is a Finnish girl’s name. I would definitely consider it then if it was up to me.
There is the Russian/Slavic name of Lada I presume said as [name]Lay[/name] dah which has the lovely meaning of goddess of beauty. Something like [name]Sari[/name] Lada might fit.
(I keep think if it was a boy it would be easy we’d call him [name]Finn[/name]).
Then there is the Finnish girl’s name [name]Meri[/name] which means the sea. It is also an English, Welsh and Hebrew name but hasn’t reached a ranking under the 1000 mark. It is also from the English and Welsh name [name]Meredith[/name] and also from the name [name]Mary[/name].
If you like [name]Gwen[/name], maybe you’ll like Gwenelle. That’s my name & very unique as in my 28yrs I’ve NEVER come across another Gwenelle. And it actually might be weird if I did. But going back in my ancestry, there’s a Gunnild & a Gunhild. [name]Both[/name] of which are Scandinavian & Gunnild I believe is just a variation of Gunhild.
rollo, you’re almost spot on to my style. My DS2 born in [name]Scotland[/name] is named [name]Finn[/name]. and my DD’s second middle name is Inari. and actually it’s not that easy to say the Finnish way - it’s EE-nar-ee, with the stress on the first syllable which is really unnatural to English speakers.
I like Saari which is how you would spell it in Finland, is means island, but I think the double A’s would cause problems when we went back to the UK. and everyone would think the [name]Indian[/name] [name]Sari[/name]. I like [name]Meri[/name], but think everyone back home would just call her [name]Mary[/name] if we used [name]Meri[/name]. I know a [name]Mirren[/name] so can’t use that. [name]Miri[/name] is new, need to look into that one.
Other Finnish names we like are Talvi (winter), [name]Suvi[/name] (summer), [name]Katri[/name] and I like Ilta (evening) but DP doesn’t like that.
Lumi means snow so I wouldn’t want to use another wintery name really. Think I need to go research more Finnish names as they have that short feel I like and I could use a unobvious nature name.
I like [name]Ianthe[/name] and [name]Thea[/name] from your other list. Prefer [name]Theia[/name] but I know one. Would use [name]Rain[/name] in a heartbeat, if it wasn’t DD’s middle name as well. I also know several Margots and a [name]Fern[/name], so would feel weird using those.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Clea[/name], but DP has already rejected and like [name]Linnea[/name], but don’t like [name]Linn[/name]/[name]Lynn[/name] and would be worried it would be shortened to that as everyone back home would find it a bit weird.
AugustaLee - lots of brilliant suggestions there, thanks.

[name]Thisbe[/name], [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Signe[/name] and [name]Tilda[/name]
