I have fallen into another crush on [name]John[/name] [name]Mayer[/name] and [name]Johnny[/name] Depp, thus their names as well. Has [name]Johnny[/name] as a full name became too plain in the world of Aidens, Jadens, and [name]Jack[/name]? I really like the uncomplcated-ness of [name]Johnny[/name], however I know many people would assume little [name]Johnny[/name]'s full name to be [name]John[/name]. Also instead of [name]Johnny[/name] as a first name, what about [name]Ambrose/name Depp(MN) and then the last name?
My top favorite boy name is [name]John[/name]. It’s also my father’s name, my SO’s name, and the name of a little boy who changed my life years ago!
[name]Ambrose[/name] is also one of my favorite names for boys. I think keeping the classic [name]John[/name] and having the nn of [name]Johnny[/name] would be easier for the child, but then again, I have never known a [name]Johnny[/name] whose full name wasn’t [name]John[/name]!
The man who my friend married goes exclusively by [name]Johnny[/name]. I’m not sure if his full name is [name]John[/name] or not, but I’ve never heard him go by anything other than [name]Johnny[/name]. It works fine for him but I don’t think it could work on everyone.
I love [name]Ambrose[/name] though!
I like Depp as a middle name - haven’t heard of that suggestion before!
I’m put off Depp by it’s meaning - isn’t it [name]German[/name] for fool?
I would use [name]John[/name] as the FN and keep [name]Johnny[/name] as the nickname, in case he wanted to use something more formal later in life. Not every adult could pull off “[name]Johnny[/name].” And no, I don’t think [name]John[/name] is too plain at all. It’s a strong, classic name, and very few people are using it these days. Plus, it fits in with the trend of other one-syllable names like [name]Max[/name] and [name]Gus[/name].
I always think [name]Johnny[/name] is a nn for [name]Jonathan[/name] since [name]John[/name] is shorter than it, truly. I don’t think [name]Johnny[/name] would be too hard as a legal name, it’s not like it matters what people think their full name is… The only time they would ever deal with it is when they were filling out forms and the other person asks them if that is actually their full name. All they have to do is say yes and it’s done. That said, I’m not the biggest fan of [name]Johnny[/name], but it is much better than either [name]Jonathan[/name] or [name]John[/name]. I really like [name]Ambrose[/name], I think it’s beautiful, and it could work with Depp depending on your ln. I’d just watch out, though, that you are picking the names because of something short-lived, you know?
We chose [name]John[/name] because it was a family name, but ended up loving that it is now so classic that it’s unusual. We’ve never met another [name]John[/name] around his age, though we’ve seen plenty of Jonathans.
We do call him [name]Johnny[/name], [name]John[/name], and [name]John[/name]-[name]John[/name] (we weren’t attempting to emulate JFK [name]Jr[/name] but it is a fun little nickname around the house).
I am not a big fan of nicknames as names, so I’d go with [name]John[/name] and call him [name]Johnny[/name] exclusively. I have been called by my nickname my entire life, but it is nice to have an “official” name.
I would opt for [name]John[/name] nn [name]Johnny[/name]. My brother’s nn is [name]Johnny[/name], and he goes by it exclusively still (and he is nearly 22!). Still, it has quite a cutesy feel to me and I can’t imagine someone being just [name]Johnny[/name]. It’s not that it’s too simple for me, but too cutesy. It is a nice name, though (although I admit–I’ve always been more partial to [name]Jack[/name]! But [name]Johnny[/name] does suit my brother so much more…). I think [name]John[/name] nn [name]Johnny[/name] would be great.
Good luck!
I <3 Johnny as a name. John is my dad’s name and he’s always been Johnny to his family. I think it’s better to go with the traditional name and just call him Johnny exclusively. That way if he grows up and wants his name to evolve in maturity he has the option.
I also am in love with the name Ambrose (my husband vetoed) and Ambrose Depp is a completely amazing combo.
I love [name]Johnny[/name] for a boy. I say go for it. I also know a little girl named after her grandfather and she goes by [name]Johnnie[/name] [name]Claire[/name]. Adorable!
I’m with you. I love [name]Johnny[/name] much more than [name]John[/name]. But, I probably still give the baby [name]John[/name] as a given name.
I love [name]John[/name]. I prefer [name]John[/name] as the actual name and [name]Johnny[/name] as the nickname.
[name]John[/name] is boring, but its a solid classic you cannot go wrong with. Also adore [name]Ambrose[/name].
I am not really naming a person. This is to see how the names go together. Maybe use it for a character in a short story of mine or another writing. I know a [name]Johnathan[/name] too many for me. Also, I Google it and Depp does mean fool, I think. I even found an article saying [name]Johnny[/name] Depp isn’t a fan of his last name.

how about [name]Ambrose[/name] Depp (b) and [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Libbey[/name]? nn [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Bee[/name]? (yes, I know [name]Libbey[/name] is a nickname for [name]Elizabeth[/name])
