Need Opinions

I’m pregnant with my third boy. We are having no luck on figuring out the name. Me and DH did both like the name Paxson or [name_u]Paxton[/name_u] because we like [name_u]Pax[/name_u] BUT our last name is [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]. Would rhyming first and last names be absolutely ridiculous? Honest opinions

I personally wouldn’t do it. The sound is very much alike and would definitely put me off

I agree with the PPs, it’s a bit much. I personally think [name_u]Pax[/name_u] could work well on its own! (If [name_u]Max[/name_u] can, why not [name_u]Pax[/name_u]?)

Sorry, I have to agree with sweetcaroline. It’s too alike to me and reminds me of the movie title Action [name_u]Jackson[/name_u].

Maybe just [name_u]Pax[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]? Then it’s not as rhymey. You could also put it in the middle slot but still have him go by [name_u]Pax[/name_u].

Some other names you might like, based on the sound and meaning of [name_u]Pax[/name_u]: [name_u]Maddox[/name_u], [name_u]Poe[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Callum[/name_u], [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], [name_u]Milo[/name_u], [name_u]Paz[/name_u], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_u]Lux[/name_u], [name_m]Dex[/name_m], [name_u]Lex[/name_u], [name_m]Knox[/name_m], [name_m]Baz[/name_m], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] nn [name_m]Des[/name_m] or [name_u]Desi[/name_u], [name_m]Caius[/name_m], [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u]

This combo seems a little too rhyme-y to me, I’m sorry. Depending on what drew you to Paxson/Paxton, maybe we can help find a good substitute? For example, [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], and [name_m]Preston[/name_m] share that energetic “P” beginning and tailored surname style; [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], and [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] share the distinctive “x” sound; etc. I’d be happy to help brainstorm more options if that would be useful–it can be so frustrating to have a favorite name clash with your last name!

I think it sounds like a character in a nursery rhyme.

Definitely too rhyme-y. Sorry. But I definitely think you can use [name_u]Pax[/name_u]!

Too rhymey imo but [name_u]Pax[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] could work as others have said. Otherwise, [name_u]Keaton[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u] and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] give me similar vibes

I think it’s too rhymey. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Pascal[/name_m]?

That would be a little funny wouldnt it…

I agree [name_u]Pax[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] would be splendid!
If not, there are other ways to get [name_u]Pax[/name_u] as a nickname. To all the great suggestions above, I’d also add [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] as an option.

Thank you all for confirming what I already knew. I am drawn to the nickname [name_u]Pax[/name_u] itself and love the peaceful meaning but probably wouldn’t name him [name_u]Pax[/name_u] on its own. I like full names with shorter nicknames. [name_f]My[/name_f] other boys are [name_m]Lukas[/name_m] and [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u]. The double L was unintentional but now I feel like I have to avoid L names completely lol. This baby is a rainbow and has been about 3 years in the making so I was hoping for a meaningful name but not completely necessary. This would have been much easier if it was a girl lol.

Also my other boys have family middle names. We are running out of family names we want to honor. [name_f]My[/name_f] oldest has my late fathers first name in the middle so we thought about using his middle name which was [name_m]Miguel[/name_m]. Again the whole [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] last name puts a damper on the [name_f]English[/name_f] version of [name_u]Michael[/name_u] but still tempted to just use [name_m]Miguel[/name_m].

@Boymom72410

Did your father have a middle name or any other name besides [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] that perhaps you could find a variation to? (Definitely [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] would be a difficult name to live up to!) This might be overly personal and maybe doesn’t even apply to your situation but my name is a very odd combination of Spanish-[name_f]English[/name_f] first and last name that I’ve never been a fan of as it just makes me feel like I’m stuck between the two identities. I would’ve preferred my first and last name to be the same “origin” and then a middle that was different. It just always makes me feel like I’m stuck being half and half and it’s very noticeable. Again, this might just be a very personal opinion

Thanks for that perspective. I would not have thought about that. [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] would 100% be the middle name. NOT the first. So I’m not sure if that makes a difference. His first name was [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] which is now my oldest sons middle name.

Wanting a meaningful name for your rainbow baby makes perfect sense  Nameberry has a list of names with peace-related meanings: https://nameberry.com/list/411/Baby-Names-That-Mean-[name_u]Peace[/name_u]?all=1. [name_u]Callum[/name_u] and [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] stood out to me–both mean dove. Or maybe something from this list that focuses on miracle/spirituality-related meanings? Names That Mean Miracle | Nameberry.

I definitely think [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] would work in the middle! [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] does seem like it would be quite a load to carry, even for the middle-last name combo, so I agree with you about sticking with the original version of [name_m]Miguel[/name_m].

[name_u]Paxton[/name_u] always makes me think of [name_u]Maddox[/name_u]. I like the alliteration with [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] and think the nicknames [name_u]Max[/name_u] or [name_m]Mads[/name_m]/ [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] are pretty fun. Sorry your first choice doesn’t seem to be working out.

Thank you for those links. I will take a look at those in a little bit.

I do like [name_u]Maddox[/name_u] too. Dh wasn’t thrilled. I’m only 19 weeks so we definitely have time to think but I totally feel weird about him not having a name lol.

I decided to do a little brainstorming for you, looking for a first name that goes well with middle name [name_m]Miguel[/name_m], that channels the vibes of [name_u]Paxton[/name_u] and [name_u]Maddox[/name_u], and that goes well with siblings [name_m]Lukas[/name_m] and [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u]. Here’s what I came up with:

Holden [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Kingston[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Beckett[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Boone[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Wilder[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Bodhi[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] - I know you were staying away from L names, but if you were going to do that route, I think [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] would be a great fit
[name_m]Clayton[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Brock[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] - maybe a way of arriving at the nn [name_u]Pax[/name_u] without using a first name that rhymes with [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Carter[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Dalton[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Bennett[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Knox[/name_m] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Carlton[/name_m] MIguel [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Declan[/name_u] [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] - maybe nickname [name_m]Dex[/name_m]?

Oh my goodness that’s awesome. Thank you for all the ideas.

Miguel is not a for sure middle name. Other option is we pick whatever name we want but I don’t know if that would be weird since both my other boys have a family middle name. There is also my husbands step father [name_u]Kendall[/name_u] (who is alive and well. Not sure if that makes a difference) that we could use. I feel like that would bring hurt feelings to my husband father possibly so not sure if we want to go there :-/ Relationship is not great between my husband and his father.

I love that you want a meaningful name for the middle and that you’re looking at family names. I totally understand the difficulty in trying not to leave anyone out/offend.

A suggestion you could try:
Together with your partner, create a brainstorm of the following and then have a look to see if any of the names stand out-

  • place names of significance to your families or your relationship with your husband (eg, place of birth, town/venue of first date, place you got engaged/honeymoon, special trip you enjoyed, favourite scenic spot etc etc).
  • look back through your family trees on both sides of the family to see if there are any common names (we came up with the mn of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] for a second daughter as we discovered THREE great great grandmothers called [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] that span both our families history’s from [name_m]Wales[/name_m] to [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] to [name_u]New[/name_u] Zealand).
  • initials of important people in your life ( do you both have a parent/close family member with the same initial for example?).
  • names associated with your hobbies/special interests (these could be literary or sporting associations, a famous photographer/artist/composer).
  • personal hero’s or people you admire ([name_m]Nelson[/name_m] [name_m]Mandela[/name_m], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] [name_m]Parks[/name_m], [name_m]Winston[/name_m] [name_m]Churchill[/name_m], [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u], [name_m]Albert[/name_m] Einstein etc etc).
  • names you associate with positive childhood memories.
  • aspects of your life that are important to you (eg you love hiking so could brainstorm nature names).

They are just a few examples but maybe if you could nail down a middle name it would help you know what direction you want to go in for a first name.

Good luck!
