Need reactions to boy name Yates Alexander

Last name rhymes with [name_m]Rogue[/name_m].

I am new here. Due TODAY, no sign of our little guy being ready to meet us (it’s our first). We have been perennially undecided about names, but Yates is my H’s middle name and it’s a very old family name (H’s family is English/Scottish and came over on the Mayflower). However, my doubt is whether it’s too weird as a first name since it is much more common as a last name.

Congrats. I hope your little guy comes out to meet you very soon. Yates [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is very handsome. I like that Yates has special meaning for you. You will have some that dislike the surname as a first name. I personally like surnames for first names. Plus many people have surnames on their favorite lists or used them and they do not even realize.

I love it! (But then Yates is a family name for me as well). It flows nicely, and Yates is going to be very hard to mispronounce. And if your son doesn’t ultimately share your enthusiasm for it, he has a strong mn to fall back on.

While I appreciate Yates having family signifance for you, I’m not sure that Yates [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] is a great name. It’s harsh and clunky. A longer name like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] would be much better with a one-syllable surname. Have you considered switching the names around = [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Yates?

I agree with [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]. I vote for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Yates. Good luck!

Definitely switch them.

I find Yates to be handsome and intriguing in the middle spot, but confusing and awkward in the first. You will get a lot of weird looks from that one, I’m afraid. It sounds like the name of a butler, not a sweet baby boy.

Yates [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is very handsome. It wouldn’t be out of place at all here in the South.

I love it!

Lovelovelove Yates [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]! It’s so preppy and smart sounding–and I think he could be anything from a hardworking scholar at a [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] prep school with academic desires to the golden boy of a small Southern boy, and anything in between! I really, really love it, and I love the significance of Yates. I really love surnames in general, but this gets a resounding yes from me! [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Yates is nowhere near as interesting and memorable as Yates [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], imo. I love it.

I like Yates [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (because it’s a family name). Not sure about the sound with your last name. I’d just write out all possibilities with their full name and bring to the hospital. Then see what fits him. That’s what we always did. We always knew which family name but someone’s weren’t sure on the other name.

I like it. It’s interesting while being familiar.
Good luck.
He’ll make his appearance when he’s good and ready (I was 11 days late, missed out in being induced by about 6 hrs!!)

I really like it, especially since it has family meaning to you.

Strikingly handsome.

I like the uniqueness of Yates, but it feels a bit harsh as a first name. I vote for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Yates.
Best of luck
