Need some advice choosing from our shortlist :)

I would love to hear what everyone thinks about our shortlist of names for our little girl due this spring. She’s our first. We’re having a really hard time deciding. We don’t want anything too popular (though I realise most of my choices are near the top of the lists…) and we like something sort of timeless but fresh, and equally lovely for a baby and a grown woman.

Here they are:
[name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Lottie[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name] (nn [name]Milla[/name])
[name]Sophia[/name] (nn [name]Sophie[/name])
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
[name]Tallulah[/name] (nn [name]Lula[/name])
[name]Edie[/name]

Our last name is one syllable and starts with a hard C.

Thanks!

I love [name]Ada[/name]. The rest are not really my style, but [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Tallulah[/name] are alright.

[name]Florence[/name] is the only name I’m ok with. The rest aren’t really my style, I don’t like [name]Sophia[/name] but I do like [name]Sofie[/name].

Though I think that [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name] are all lovely choices, she will most likely not be the only one in her class. If that doesn’t bother you, then any of those 4 would make a pretty and safe choice. My favourite of the four is [name]Amelia[/name].

From your list as a whole, my favourites are [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Edie[/name] (though I think [name]Edith[/name] or [name]Meredith[/name] nn [name]Edie[/name] would be a little stronger). You have great taste!!

I definitely think that all the names you’ve listed are quite timeless, though with the popularity of the 4 I’ve mentioned, they might seem a little more tied to this decade than the rest of your list.

My favorite is [name]Florence[/name]. When she’s young you can call her the flowery, princessy [name]Flora[/name] or [name]Flo[/name], and when she’s older or based on her personality, you can call her the more formal yet still lovely, [name]Florence[/name].

If you are seeking a name that is fresh and timeless, I would recommend one that is not overly popular. The more popular a name, the more likely it is to seem dated. [name]Even[/name] names that seem timeless and have a history - I think this is what happened to [name]Susan[/name] and [name]Barbara[/name]. Because of that, avoid [name]Sophia[/name]. And [name]Charlotte[/name] seems a name that is likely to grow in popularity.
[name]Amelia[/name], which so closely resembles [name]Emily[/name] and [name]Emma[/name], may seem dated also.
Since you have a one-syllable last name, you probably want to stick to a longer first name. A short first, i.e., [name]Ada[/name] C__, will sound choppy. I would go with [name]Florence[/name] or [name]Tallulah[/name].
Maybe you’d consider [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], or [name]Elizabeth[/name]? They all have so many nickname possibilities too.

First of all, I love your taste! All beautiful names. As others said, I would personally not go with [name]Hannah[/name] or [name]Sophia[/name] for popularity reasons. [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] are on the rise too, I know, but I’ve yet to meet a baby by either name in my area (the Midwest). [name]Charlotte[/name] has been on my list just because I absolutely adore the nn [name]Lottie[/name]!! SO cute.

My top picks for you are [name]Edie[/name] (but I would give her the full name [name]Edith[/name]-so classy and timeless) and [name]Florence[/name]

Thanks so much, everyone! Any ideas of something similar to these names but less popular? I love names that have potential for nicknames like [name]Lula[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Lottie[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Etta[/name] etc.

Oooh, we have similar taste in names

I love [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name].

[name]Charlotte[/name] - I’m getting so bored with this option.
[name]Amelia[/name] - Really cute, I love feminine “A” names so this is right in line with what I love.
[name]Sophia[/name] - [name]Sophia[/name] always strikes me as stuck up, [name]Sophie[/name] is much more cute and feminine to me.
[name]Ada[/name] - Ugly to me.
[name]Hannah[/name] - Nothing special, but cute as well.
[name]Florence[/name] - [name]Flora[/name] is cuter, if you’re looking for something similar.
[name]Tallulah[/name] - This always strikes me as trashy. I couldn’t take an adult with this name seriously.
[name]Edie[/name] - I’m sure this is “E-D”, but I don’t think I’d want my daughter getting called “[name]Eddie[/name]” every other day.

[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]

are my favorites. [name]Charlotte[/name] is mega-popular here in [name]Brooklyn[/name], but [name]Lotte[/name] is irresistible. [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name] have musicality and symmetry on their side- [name]Ada[/name] is a bit more modern/elemental. [name]Florence[/name] is elegant yet just antique enough… I like “[name]Floss[/name]” as a nickname :-b
[name]Tallulah[/name] is loads of fun, but I find it a little trendy (though not exactly popular.)

[name]Violetta[/name] nn [name]Letty[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name] nn [name]Emma[/name]
[name]Lumina[/name] nn Lumi or [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Elettra[/name] nn [name]Letty[/name]
[name]Charlotta[/name] nn [name]Lottie[/name]
[name]Carlotta[/name] nn [name]Lottie[/name]
[name]Lucette[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name] or [name]Etta[/name] or [name]Lula[/name]
[name]Luella[/name] nn [name]Ella[/name] or [name]Lula[/name]/[name]Lulu[/name]
[name]Lorelei[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name]
[name]Louisetta[/name] nn [name]Lula[/name], [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Etta[/name]
[name]Lourdetta[/name] nn [name]Lula[/name], [name]Etta[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name] nn [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Lula[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]

[name]Luella[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name] ( [name]Lola[/name])
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Amelie[/name]

From your list I love [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Tallulah[/name].

Any ideas for alternatives we haven’t included in our list that have a similar feel?
