My name is [name]Nikki[/name], my husband is [name]Nathan[/name], our daughter is [name]Niara[/name], so we want an N name for our son.
Rules:
there has to be a full name that can be shortened to an N nickname
for example my name is [name]Nicole[/name], I am called [name]Nikki[/name]
I also want to stay away from the common names like [name]Nicholas[/name] (my hubby likes [name]Nicholas[/name]) for 2 reasons I do not want another [name]Nicky[/name] and we want it too be different. But if it was [name]Nicholas[/name] I would call him [name]Nico[/name].
My idea is Neovianni ([name]Neo[/name]) for short. But hubby hates it.
I thought of Noxolo (Nox) hubby hates it.
Please help!
I would [name]LOVE[/name] some more ideas!

Sorry, a lot of these don’t have nn’s, mostly because they’re relatively short anyway. It sounds like your husband likes conventional names, while you prefer exotic, almost fantasy-esque ones, so I tried to compromise by finding unusual names with solid backgrounds, to go with [name]Niara[/name]. Tell me which you like, which your husband likes, and any that you both are fond of. Good luck!

A couple questions about your rules:
-
Does it HAVE to be able to be shortened? [name]Do[/name] you shorten your daughter’s name? If so, to what? There are so many great, short N names for boys that don’t need nicknames.
-
Does the name have to be really out there, or just not Top 50? Or can the long name be unusual with a more common form nickname? I really suggest this option since at different points in his life, your son may or may not appreciate having an overly unique name and it’s always nice to have options.
[name]Nielson[/name], nn [name]Niels[/name] (pronounced Neals)
Nainoa – (NIGH-no-ah) possibly my favorite Hawaiian name, with the very mainstream nickname [name]Noah[/name]
[name]Nehemiah[/name] – nn [name]Nemo[/name]
[name]Nestor[/name] – nn Ness
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Norbert[/name] / [name]Norberto[/name] – nn [name]North[/name]
Nalu – another great Hawaiian name, means “wave”
I want to second the suggestions of:
[name]Nashua[/name] – nn [name]Nash[/name]
[name]Neville[/name]
I’m afraid I have to agree with your husband regarding Neovianni and Noxolo. Are there any [name]NON[/name] N names you both like that could help us get a sense of your styles? Or names that were close contenders for your daughter?
Hmmmm….N names are tough enough let alone one that has to have a built in nickname.
My favorite names from above suggestions are [name]Nelson[/name], [name]Nielson[/name] and [name]Nolan[/name], although I prefer them as full names ([name]Nels[/name] isn’t terrible though). Also, I think [name]Nigel[/name] could work and I know someone that goes by Nygs for short (pronounced with a hard g).
My favorite 1-syll N names are [name]Nash[/name] and [name]North[/name], although again, not loving any of the full name options for these.
The only other idea I can think of is [name]Nehemiah[/name] ([name]Nemo[/name]).
And I think I’m with your DH about the [name]Neo[/name] suggestion…not a fan.
Good [name]Luck[/name]!
One of my favorite names for a boy is [name]Navarre[/name]. Not sure what nn you could use that would start with an N…but then again I am not a big fan of nicknames.
So my one and only suggestions is [name]Navarre[/name].
I like:
Nashton- [name]Nash[/name]
[name]Nicolai[/name]- [name]Nico[/name]
Definitely [name]Nikolai[/name]/ Nicholai. Established name with nn [name]Nico[/name] that isn’t boring.
I agree with [name]Nash[/name], [name]Nelson[/name] and [name]Navarro[/name].
Also [name]Neil[/name]
regards,
rollo
[name]Nehemiah[/name]- I think [name]Neo[/name] could work as a nickname.
[name]Nevin[/name]
Nicodemas- [name]Nico[/name]
[name]Naveed[/name]- [name]Ned[/name]
[name]Nicholson[/name] nn [name]Cole[/name], [name]Nico[/name], or [name]Neo[/name]
Nashville nn [name]Nash[/name]
Good luck!
I like the names, [name]Nolan[/name] and [name]Nash[/name]. I don’t know what the nicknames for either name would be though. I think [name]Nico[/name] is a cute name too but I think he will be called [name]Nick[/name] if you name him [name]Nicholas[/name]. I dated a Nebil. I always liked that name but he went by Nebil, I can’t think of a nickname for that either.
Moxielove,
We do shorten [name]Niara[/name] to [name]Nia[/name], or her cousins call her [name]Ara[/name].
we really want an N name, and haven’t discussed anyother options.
I supose the name does not have to be shortned I really like [name]Nico[/name] ([name]Neko[/name]) but I am having trouble with a middle name to accent it. I have a very Italian last name. FIANCHINO
[name]Nico[/name] [name]Sal[/name]
[name]Nico[/name] [name]Xander[/name]
I just knew with my daughter that the name was a perfect fit, I am not gettign that feeling with him.
I’ll try not to repeat…
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Noam[/name]
[name]Napier[/name]
Narek
Narinder
[name]Nathaniel[/name] nn [name]Neil[/name]
Nayden
[name]Neely[/name]
Neiren
Nekoda possbily nn [name]Ned[/name]
[name]Neriah[/name]
[name]Nerio[/name] nn [name]Neo[/name]
Nevio
Nilam
[name]Niles[/name]
[name]Noel[/name]
[name]Noll[/name]
[name]Norris[/name]
nikkif0914, for what it’s worth I absolutely adore the name [name]Nico[/name]. It feels multicultural, it has a totally intuitive spelling and pronunciation and yet doesn’t feel common at all.
BUT I totally understand what you mean by “just not feeling it”. That said, it took me about a month to realize that that name I had chosen for my daughter was “the one”. You may have just been incredibly lucky the first time around. Be careful not to skip over great names just because they aren’t love at first sight.
The general advice I hear is just say it to yourself for a month (or to your belly!) or so, and see if it then feels right.
I like [name]Nico[/name] [name]Xander[/name] – do you have any family names that you want to include? Or meanings (strong, brave, light, ocean etc)?
[name]Nahum[/name]
[name]Naphtali[/name]
[name]Narciso[/name]
[name]Nasir[/name]
[name]Nash[/name]
[name]Naveed[/name]
[name]Nazario[/name] nn Naz
[name]Nelson[/name]
Neriad
[name]Nisan[/name]
[name]Nixon[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Noel[/name]
[name]How[/name] about Niccolo, nn [name]Nico[/name]?
Niccolo means “victorious” also goes with the Italian last name
