I recently heard the name Jude for a girl and I fell in love. The name Jude has been on my name list for years and years but always for a baby boy, I’ve just never thought about using it for a girl. I’m wondering what other people’s thoughts are? Am I just liking it since I’ve loved the name for years, or do you think you could see a little girl being named Jude? I’d love to know what people’s immediate thoughts are when hearing it being used for a girl! Thanks in advance everyone!

You’re definitely not the only one that likes the name [name_u]Jude[/name_u] on girls. It’s getting increasingly popular and there are also several books featuring female Jude’s (The Cruel [name_u]Prince[/name_u] and I’ll Give You the Sun). I think what the fact that it’s similiar to other well-known and established names like [name_f]Judy[/name_f] also makes it more accessible. I personally prefer it on boys but can definitely see the appeal and it does work on girls as well.
I’m a fan of [name_f]Judith[/name_f] and [name_f]Judy[/name_f] not [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. Honestly with the recent craze of [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u] etc being used on girls (and I guess now Jude) I wouldn’t be shocked if like 10 to 20 years from now we’re saying that those names on girls dates itself and we’re saying “That was so 2020’s”
I love [name_u]Jude[/name_u] on a girl. It’s not a new trend — it’s been used in small but steady numbers for girls ever since the 1930s in the US. To me, it feels like one of those spunky androgynous nickname names last popular a century ago (Billie, [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], etc.)
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] has such a cool yet calm vibe (for either sex), it’s a great name!
