My due date is less than two weeks away, and we’re 99.9% settled on our little boy’s name. But now I am having some second thoughts.
Our choice is [name]Frederik[/name]/[name]Frederick[/name] [name]Carl[/name] (spelling to be determined).
I really do love the name, and the minor doubts I’m having are mostly just because I know my family won’t like it. My parents were appalled when they found out my friend named her son [name]Oliver[/name], so I know they’ll think [name]Frederick[/name] is hideously old fashioned.
So go ahead and shower me with some [name]Frederick[/name] love! Thanks everyone for humoring me.
[name]Frederick[/name] is adorable. I prefer old-fashioned names though. And it has good nickname potential. I’ve found that most people who don’t like a name, once they know and like someone with that name, the name grows on them.
When I named my daughter [name]Mckinley[/name] it was not a name I loved, but it had meaning to her dad. Now I couldn’t imagine her named anything else.
I also love [name]Frederick[/name]. I think its a lovely brother name for [name]Louisa[/name]! Its no more traditional and old fashioned than [name]Louisa[/name], in my opinion.
Oh, [name]Frederick[/name] will grow on your parents very, very quickly. Once they see their gorgeous grandson, they will love everything associated with him, including his name. For all you know they could have had a childhood friend with the name and maybe they already have positive associations with it anyway. But even if it takes them some time to warm up to the name, it will not affect their love for their grandson, and I truly believe the name will grow on them fairly quickly. He will just become [name]Frederick[/name] to them–“their [name]Frederick[/name]”–and they won’t be able to resist getting warm and happy upon hearing his name.
I love [name]Frederick[/name] so much! I would put it on my list if I could. It is so handsome and all the nn possibilities are super adorable.
I think it goes perfectly together with big sister [name]Louisa[/name]. Congrats to you, and don’t worry, you’ve picked another great name! =]
I love the name [name]Frederick[/name] so much (wish my husband did, too!), and I agree, it seems to be having a bit of a resurgence - but not so much that it will ever get super popular - which is a good thing. I think if your family dislikes both [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Frederick[/name] (which are both SUCH nice names, so handsome and classic), I think it seems like your tastes just don’t match. So it might just be unlikely you’ll ever agree on a name. But once your son is born, and the name has been given, they’ll just have to learn to live with it. And it could very well grow on them!
When I first told my mom that my husband and my first choice for a girl’s name was [name]Adeline[/name], she was like…eh. But now she really likes it - and the baby isn’t even born yet!
Oh, [name]Frederick[/name] is glorious! I personally prefer the full-work-up-spelling, as it’s so handsome and sturdy! [name]Frederick[/name] is both princely AND kingly. In addition to [name]Fred[/name], [name]Rick[/name], and [name]Derick[/name] as nicknames (you can sell it to your family with those options), you’ve also got [name]Fritz[/name], which is super stylish and funky and cool. [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Carl[/name] is unique but familiar, and works if your fella turns out to be a quirky artist type, or a mechanic, or a doctor, or a lumberjack. Despite it’s chameleon-like qualities, though, it has a lot of flavour.
[name]Frederick[/name] [name]Carl[/name] is such a handsome name. I doesn’t matter what other people think because it’s your baby so you can call it whatever you like.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]! It is especially great with [name]Louisa[/name] and you have a plethora of nns. [name]Teddy[/name] is my favorite. Best wishes for a safe and easy delivery!
