I have posted a couple of times recently in both the girl and boy forum (going team green this time around). I have a daughter [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and had been liking but not loving the names [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] etc. I think I was drawn to those type of names because of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]'s classic vintage feel but to be honest, I think I like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] more because of its spunk. My [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is full of personality and her name really suits her. I have started looking at other names. I’m not even sure what you would call my naming style
[name_m]New[/name_m] names on my list:
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - was actually my husbands suggestion, I like it but don’t want her to be associated with a parrot or the song miss [name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] nn [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Ginny[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
I love the nick name [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] but can’t stand how popular [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is a left field option for me, love the name [name_u]Min[/name_u]/[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] but I doubt I would be able to get my husband on board with it.
Please suggestion any new names for me, I am so lost for names.
[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] nn [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]. That was on our list for current babe due in [name_u]March[/name_u] before we made our final decision. I still love it so much though - definitely spunky!
Names I like best from your list because of how they sound paired with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]:
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Libby[/name_f]
(I don’t think [name_f]Polly[/name_f] would be associated with the negative connotations you mentioned.)
[name_m]How[/name_m] about just ‘[name_f]Livia[/name_f]’ to get the nickname [name_f]Livvy[/name_f]?
Other names to get the nickname ‘[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]’:
Or how about just using [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]? [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is a nickname name anyway. So it would be [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] but don’t like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], too, so I came up with a compromise: [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. Also, I like [name_u]Sage[/name_u] (have you considered the spelling [name_u]Saige[/name_u] to give it a more girly feel?), [name_u]Blair[/name_u], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], and [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. I’m not exactly sure about [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and I don’t like [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] (too old fashion). I hope this helps!
You have such a nice list, and from it my top three (in order) are [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] From previous posters, I like the names [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. Other considerations:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]- A twinge vintage, like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], and with syllables that really pop.
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]/[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]- Seems to strike a balance between ultramodern [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] and retro-but-returning [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. Also flows nicely with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]- I get the same spunky-quirky vibe from [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as I do from [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], and both are beautiful names.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]/[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Sally[/name_f]- An alternative to [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. Still has pop culture connotations, but is balanced out by the strong namesake [name_f]Sally[/name_f] Ride.
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped, and best of luck!
Thanks for all your suggestions. I like [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and have recently added [name_f]Frances[/name_f] nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
I love the nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] but couldn’t get my husband on board for either [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] or [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]. I had [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] on the list when I was pregnant with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] but just didn’t feel right. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t mind [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f], will add them to the list, thanks
We live in Australia so I find [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] a bit odd to use even though it’s a lovely name. I worry that [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] on its own won’t age well. I do like [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] but it’s a no from my husband. Thanks for your reply
I do really like [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], it was a top pick for me with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. When I floated [name_f]Willa[/name_f] past my husband his reply was something along the lines of ‘is that even a name’ haha so I’m guessing that’s a solid no unfortunately. My mum’s name is [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] so feel coraline is too close to that and my niece is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (which I totally love). Thanks for your reply
I really like [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]! [name_f]Polly[/name_f] also sounds very nice with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. I don’t have negative connotations with the name [name_f]Polly[/name_f] if that helps.
Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] (alternative to polly)
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Hester[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Thirza[/name_f]
[name_f]Renee[/name_f]
[name_f]Nanette[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ines[/name_f]
[name_f]Nessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (might use the nn [name_f]Livvy[/name_f])
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Avis[/name_f]
[name_f]April[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]
I also am finding I like spunky names more. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is my top pick for this one if it’s a girl. We are also team green I love [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] and [name_f]Livia[/name_f] as well but my favorite is just plain [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. It’s just tougher finding a MN for such a short name. What is your boy choice?
Good to know you don’t have any negative connotations with the name [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] has been watching the wiggles lately and the song Miss [name_f]Polly[/name_f] has dolly keeps coming up, haha.
