Need Suggestions to replace Wolfgang

Heya Berries -
A few months ago you helped me distill down my top ten boys names.
[name]One[/name] of which was [name]Wolfgang[/name]. I’ve since reconsidered it.
It’s my dad’s name but after having a conversation with my mom this last week I
realize that naming a child after him is not an option.
Our relationship is complicated to say the least but I’ll try to summarize why it’s no longer a good idea:
My mom is the most important person in my life.
My dad was absent most of my life and he and my mom have a relationship that is a stalemate between love, hate and tolerance.
And my dad isn’t good with signs of affection, if I ever named a child after him he would think I was doing it to secure a inheritance for that kid. (I’m serious, I sent him christmas cookies and he called my mom to ask what my motive was. Like sending cookies to say [name]Merry[/name] [name]Christmas[/name] automatically means ulterior motive imagine giving his name to a child.)

Anyway, I’m looking for a name that would fit well with my top 10 boys and girls names (see signature) that sounds good in English, [name]German[/name] and Spanish.

Some others I like but that don’t feel right are: [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Earnest[/name], [name]August[/name] (which I love but…too many A’s), [name]Benedict[/name] and [name]Maximillian[/name]/mus.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

FYI: not TTC, not pregnant.

[name]Hi[/name] Lexiem, sorry to hear that you’ve had a difficult relationship with your father. I think you’re right not to honour him. If you called your son [name]Wolfgang[/name], your father would think that you had an “ulterior motive”. Sad story for me to read but at least you’re close to your mother. Here are some suggestions that could work in English, [name]German[/name] and Spanish even though there may be spelling or pronunciation differences between the languages.

Wow [name]Mischa[/name] thanks.

I do love both [name]Adrian[/name] and [name]Mathias[/name] are both family names of cousins I’m not particularly close to, so they won’t make the list.
I adore [name]Lucian[/name] in English and Spanish and have been considering for a few weeks but I can’t find a [name]German[/name] prn that I like. <Sadface> It always ends up sounding like Loo-tsi-an which just doesn’t do it justice.

At first glance I love [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Constantin[/name] (with the e ending it becomes feminine in [name]German[/name]) and [name]Theodor[/name] (same e ending issue). But the list has so many great names it’s going to take me a while to really consider them all. Thanks!!!

What’s your mother’s name? Maybe a boys’ name that would honor her in some way would be a good option.

My mom’s name is [name]Irene[/name].
She will be honored in a boys name by them getting as their second mn her second mn
(it was originally male and follows a long standing family tradition).

I do like the suggestion though!!! Thanks!!!

[name]Just[/name] giving it a bump for the evening crowd. Would love to hear more ideas!!!

[name]Lex[/name], I’m so sorry! Lots of hugs. Your list is so fantastic and wonderful, I’m going to try and make some suggestions, but I fear mommyhood has clouded my judgement a wee bit. I’m not good at Spanish, but I speak Italian so I’m trying here.

Thanks Otter!!!

So I’ve been mulling over your suggestions and now I have a few questions.
I was thinking about @davisellu suggestion of finding a name that could honor my mothers name [name]Irene[/name] - I don’t like the masculine alternatives so I’ve been thinking about names that mean “peace”. @[name]Mischa[/name] suggested [name]Frederick[/name] is that too much of a stretch? And can you think on nn that aren’t [name]Fred[/name] or [name]Rick[/name] related? What do you think about [name]Godfried[/name]? (Would it be weird for someone who is agnostic to give their child a name with the word “god” in it?)

I love [name]Alvar[/name] but is it too close to [name]Alaric[/name] and [name]Elva[/name]?
Does [name]Constantin[/name] (without the e) turn into [name]Con[/name]-stan-tin? I plugged it into a read out loud program and now I’m worried.
If [name]Jasper[/name] turns into Hasper in Spanish or Yah-sper in [name]German[/name] do you think it looses it’s flair?

[name]Theodor[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Vincent[/name] are pretty damn great!!! More suggestions would be loved.
