Somewhere that had a big significance on my DH life and childhood was called Ellijay. Pronounced like: Ella-jay. A place name from the [name_u]Cherokee[/name_u] Native American tribe meaning place of green things. We tried to come up with a name that some how honored this and struck out/gave up. Of course there are the obvious Ella’s and Jay’s, but looking for some expert suggestions and what better place to start?! Boy or girl, what names do you think best honor/represent/fit Ellijay?
Elejoy - another historic spelling of the name
Glimer - the name of the county the city is in
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] - the state the city is in
[name_f]Jorja[/name_f] - Alt spelling to include the ‘J’
Eljay
[name_u]Eli[/name_u]
I saw the name and my immediate thought was [name_u]Elijah[/name_u]. Obviously no meaning link and the sound isn’t identical, but they seem pretty close to me!
I actually think Ellijay would make a lovely middle for either sex since it’s so meaningful, maybe even a first!
Have you thought about names meaning “green” (there’s a whole list on NB) or is that too much of a stretch?
Thanks so much for the suggestions!
There is a town in [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] called Ellijay, but that actually isn’t where this came from for us. There is a community called Ellijay where we live.
I had not even thought to check on green names! Thanks for the suggestion. At this point, I am open to any suggestions. This is something that is important to him and most all of the family names we would have used are already taken.
I like the idea of Ellijay as a mn too, that may be our answer!
Thanks for your suggestions!
i love the name ellijay just on it’s own. i think it could work for either gender (nn for girls like elle/ellie and for boys jay/eli) and would always have that connection to your family!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] this idea!
I think Ellijay could make a great middle!!
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f] came to mind - a green stone and similar letters
