To keep it short- my husband and I don’t see eye to eye on names. We are currently pregnant with our third child and couldn’t be happier- the only problem being the War of the Names III. After months of vetoes and tension when pregnant with our first son, we decided that, since we both wanted multiple kids, I could name the first and he could name the second. That strategy worked out great with our first two sons! But now we’re on our third and most likely last child and are trying our best to compromise. We’ve decided not to find out the sex of the baby but have already decided on [name]Wesley[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] for a boy. Now for the girls, we each drew up lists for our top 3 and I think our differences are pretty clear
My list: [name]Diana[/name], [name]Anneliese[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]
His list: [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Madison[/name], [name]Cassidy[/name]
Any and all advice or suggestions would be appreciated- thanks so much!
Oh right! Our oldest son is [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Hayes[/name], who almost always goes by [name]Nate[/name], and our youngest is [name]Tucker[/name] [name]James[/name].
very different styles indeed… I think the only name I could ever really live with off of your husbands list is [name]Cassidy[/name]. If I were a sweet wife I’d offer [name]Cassidy[/name] [name]Diana[/name] as an option. However I am not a sweet wife when it comes to naming and my compromise would be I get first name pick and he gets middle name. Ha ha.
I told him that one last name first name is enough for one family, unless he finds a spectacular one of course (doubtful). Although, I have grown to love [name]Tucker[/name]'s name and I think it seems to go with [name]Nate[/name] perfectly, though I could be biased
My sister-in-law came up with the idea of compromising by naming her [name]Diana[/name] but with the nickname [name]Dani[/name]- What do you guys think about this? Is it too big of a stretch?
I don’t think [name]Diana[/name] to [name]Dani[/name] is too big of a stretch at all! I actually like it!
Other suggestions:
[name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name] (I know its a last name but I think you might like it?)
[name]Elyse[/name]
[name]Samantha[/name] (nn [name]Sammy[/name])
[name]Briony[/name]
What about an older name with a trendier sound? ([name]Diana[/name] nickname [name]Dani[/name] is cute and I love [name]Diana[/name], it’s very classy and beautiful)
Maybe…
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] / [name]Lia[/name]
[name]Alison[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] - has that -lyn ending thats trendy right now, which might make him like it.
[name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Cassia[/name]
Thank you both for the suggestions! [name]Blythe[/name] is kind of growing on me but I’m not sure it’s feminine enough with this likely being my only girl. I like a lot of your ideas flick- how would you pronounce [name]Cassia[/name]? Is it [name]Cass[/name]-ee-uh or [name]Cash[/name]-uh?
I like flick’s suggestions, and I also think [name]Diana[/name] nn [name]Dani[/name] is lovely. [name]Cassia[/name] is pronounced [name]KASS[/name]-ee-uh.
[name]Do[/name] you like the name [name]Cassandra[/name]? That seems more your style. If so, maybe he’d consider naming her [name]Cassandra[/name] with the nickname [name]Cass[/name] or [name]Cass[/name]?
I was going to suggest [name]Cassandra[/name] nn [name]Cassidy[/name] or [name]Cass[/name]
Or…
[name]Magdalen[/name]
[name]Marielle[/name]
[name]Megan[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]
[name]Lindsey[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
Wow! thanks for all the suggestions! We’re both loving [name]Callie[/name] flyingcube! But I definitely need a full name to go with it and feel [name]Calista[/name] is a little too out there- is there anything we can use other than [name]Calliope[/name]?
[name]Callie[/name] is so cute! [name]Calla[/name] is a legitimate full name. Or there’s [name]Calantha[/name]? Or you could use [name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Callie[/name] - I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch!
Good luck
I think [name]Caroline[/name]/[name]Callie[/name] is a great idea. I have to ask if you’ve ever seen this movie Nate and Hayes (1983) - IMDb. It’s called [name]Nate[/name] and [name]Hayes[/name] - your son might think that’s funny!
Since he likes surnames as first names and you like more feminine names, I think feminine names that have the flavor of a surname might work. Some ideas
[name]Kelly[/name]
[name]Joyce[/name]
[name]Whitney[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name] (possible alternative to [name]Diana[/name])
[name]Tracy[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Shirley[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name]
I agree, I think [name]Cassidy[/name] nn [name]Cassie[/name] is the most compormiseable one. You could try finding a name that gives you [name]Cassie[/name] as a compromise. You could also use [name]Annaliese[/name] or even [name]Diana[/name] to get [name]Annie[/name] or [name]Ana[/name] if he likes that.
