Need To Name Character's Mother

I’m still trying to decide on a surname for [name]Katherine[/name] (nn. [name]Kate[/name]), my promiscuous truck driver from [name]Lafayette[/name], [name]Indiana[/name]. I am narrowed it down to [name]Gordon[/name], Cargill, Lavery, [name]Mercer[/name], and Compton. I can’t decide so I am going to move on and try and name [name]Kate[/name]'s mother. Maybe the surname will fall into place.

[name]Kate[/name]'s mother is 45ish (born in the late 60’s). This is sort of what I picture her to look like: http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/u377/crissyc76/6297.jpg. [name]Kate[/name]'s mother is the type that tries to live above her means. She is in denial about many things. She doesn’t know who [name]Kate[/name]'s father is. At the start of the story she just came back to [name]Indiana[/name] after getting fired from her job at a casino in Atlantic City. And, she come back home alone with no man on her arm which leaves [name]Kate[/name] wondering what’s going on…

Surname Options Are: [name]Gordon[/name], Cargill, Lavery, [name]Mercer[/name], and Compton. I’m feeling [name]Carol[/name], [name]Barbara[/name] or [name]Diane[/name]??

I would love some suggestions for the mother and which surname you would match with them.

[name]Deborah[/name] [name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Wendy[/name] Cargill
[name]Jacqueline[/name] [name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Valerie[/name] [name]Gordon[/name]

I guess I favor [name]Gordon[/name] for a surname! I think [name]Jacqueline[/name] is my top pick, I like to “work down” in names, think about why her parents may have given her this name and why it matters, because it always matters. Late 1960s, depending on where your story is set, maybe her mother was also a “live above her means” bit of social climber who was enamored with [name]Jacqueline[/name] [name]Kennedy[/name].

[name]Louisa[/name] Compton
[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Teresa[/name] Cargill
[name]Francesca[/name] [name]Thomson[/name]
[name]Georgina[/name] (GG/[name]Gina[/name]) [name]Walker[/name]
[name]Janet[/name] [name]Hill[/name]

Using [name]Lafayette[/name] and Compton are both used in the TV show (and I’m guessing the books also) Trueblood. They’re pretty commonly used there, so maybe using them together for your story isn’t best? [name]Just[/name] a suggestion

LOL. Yeah, I’m a [name]True[/name] Blood fan. I didn’t even think of [name]Lafayette[/name] the character on [name]True[/name] Blood. The character is from [name]Lafayette[/name], [name]Indiana[/name]. I picked that town because I’m a huge fan of the music band Guns N’ Roses and [name]Axel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is from [name]Lafayette[/name].

Last name: [name]Gordon[/name], [name]Mercer[/name]

Mother’s name: [name]Diane[/name]

I think you should go for [name]Diane[/name] [name]Gordon[/name], since it seems to fit.
