I need some name ideas for the long-time lover of the main female character.
I am going tall, dark, and handsome with this character, but not to “pretty boy” type. He is in his 30’s and is the outdoor type. He is soft spoken, a lover not a fighter, but if threatened he can defend himself. He is easy-going. He works at/runs his deceased father’s logging company. He’s not well educated, but is a hands-on type of guy. He’s a morning person, a tea drinker, and he enjoys hunting and fishing. He’s rarely seen not wearing work boots or a bandana. He is not in a commited relationship with the main character, but when she is back in town (she’s out of town often) they always hook up and have been friends/lovers for many years. They are loyal and faithful to one another. They might end up married on day, but if not, so be it.
I am not sure where I want to go with names, but I’m feeling a couple different options: #1. an odd first name and everyone calls him by his last name. #2. a name with an nature feeling to it.
Regardless, I need all the help I can get. I haven’t given to much thought on surnames, so if anyone would like to help in that department I’d appreciate it.
I can’t sleep so I’m working on this character. I found this on google images http://www.homorazzi.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/brandon-quinn.jpg. Sometimes something visual helps. This is what I feel this character should look like. According to the link, his name is [name]Brandon[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]. Thank you for being so handsome. O.k, so we know what we shouldn’t name the character. LOL
When I look at the photo, I see a [name]Will[/name], [name]Lee[/name], [name]Sheldon[/name], [name]Shawn[/name], [name]Wade[/name], and [name]Kirby[/name].
No, no–Definately not a [name]Sheldon[/name]! There’s far too much air about The Big Bang [name]Theory[/name] to go off naming anybody [name]Sheldon[/name] at this point in time. I think go with [name]Wade[/name]–It’s an unappreciated name, which is a shame because it’s lovely =D Good luck with your novel, and maybe check out mine?
Thanks for the tip about The Big Bang [name]Theory[/name]. I don’t watch it so I wouldn’t know. [name]Wade[/name] could fit. As I mentioned, the character is very easy going. He’s the type that would ‘wade’ around in the water feeling how cool it is against his skin while everyone around his is doing cannonballs off the dock.
@greyer: Thanks for the suggestion. I’m going to add it to the long list. I’m not really feelin’ it, but that could change.
@annasage: Thanks. [name]River[/name] is interesting, but like [name]Lincoln[/name], it doesn’t jump out at me.
@genevievereine: [name]William[/name] (nn. [name]Will[/name]) is toward the top of my list. There is no way I can use [name]Sinclair[/name] as a last name as it is a close friends last name. Great suggestion though.
Some names that come to mind for me are [name]Will[/name], [name]Stellan[/name], [name]Everett[/name] (nickname [name]Rhett[/name]), [name]Branson[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name] (nickname [name]Ben[/name]), [name]Drake[/name], [name]Grant[/name], and [name]Seth[/name]. I don’t know if any of those are your style, but I thought I’d try. Good luck finding the perfect name!
Thanks inkonherfingers.
[name]Will[/name]
[name]Stellan[/name]…really like the meaning
[name]Everett[/name]…never really cared for the name, [name]Rhett[/name] I would consider.
[name]Branson[/name]…could be a surname option.
[name]Ben[/name]…I like it.
[name]Drake[/name]…like the name but not for this character. It sounds to dark.
[name]Grant[/name]…[name]LOVE[/name] IT. It’s my dad’s name. It fits the character and dad wouldn’t care if I used it.
Good News. I’ve narrowed this down to four names. I was in surname hell most of the day.
[name]How[/name] do these sound and feel? Anything stand out? It is going to be hard to decide because the meaning of each of the names, even the surnames means something to the character or ties into where I’m going in the future with the character.
