I tend to like classic and vintage names. I generally prefer a full name with the short version as a nickname.
Boys Top 5:
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
I think this is a great classic name with a little vintage and a little modern feel to it.
[name_u]August[/name_u]
A wonderful vintage name that has a modern sound. Cute nickname in [name_u]Gus[/name_u], but better [name_f]IMO[/name_f] by itself.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_u]Love[/name_u]. Prefer the full name [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. A gentleman with artistic flair.
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
Also love, prefer the full name [name_m]Leon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. Adventurous and energetic.
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]
I love this, it seems gentlemanly and energetic.
Top 5 Girls:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
Beautiful classic that is short and feminine without being overly sweet.
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f]. Beautiful, elegant, gentle and feminine without being frilly.
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (I prefer it [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] though)
A classic. Can be pretty much anything you want it to be, feminine, tomboyish, adventurous, sweet. Always popular but never sounds overused.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
Classic, spunky and feminine with elegant and friendly.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
Feminine and romantic without being frilly, gentle without being sweet.
Other names I like:
[name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
Others:
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] (b) I like this name for a boy but it’s super popular for girls in the US so I would never use it. (maybe in a middle spot) It’s also doing pretty well for boys but I personally am wary of using a name on a boy that’s in the top 100 for girls and not evenly matched. I’m also a bit wary of [name_u]Emery[/name_u] (b) but I also don’t much care for it anyway since I think of nail files and the same with [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] (b). [name_u]Casey[/name_u], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], and [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] are a little dated but I do like [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Daniela[/name_f].
Names I don’t like:
[name_u]Shay[/name_u]
[name_m]Just[/name_m] the sound of it.
[name_m]Cian[/name_m]
I think of [name_u]Cyan[/name_u] and I’m not a fan of the sound.
[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]
[name_f]Neve[/name_f] is alright but this spelling is all sorts of trouble in the US. I wouldn’t suggest it unless you felt really strongly about the Celtic connection.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
Not sure why, just don’t like the sound of this name. Maybe it’s the scar part.
[name_f]Aviana[/name_f]
Too much like Avian, which in my mind is pretty much the same as using the name [name_u]Bird[/name_u]. But I like [name_u]Robin[/name_u] so I don’t know why this bothers me.
[name_f]Callie[/name_f]
Too cute of a nickname to stand alone.
