So, we have less than 3 months until our LO is here, and while we’re pretty set and happy with our girls’ name, my DH is still not feeling committed to a boys’ name. He says he feels only 50-60% behind our leading candidates. When I asked him what he wants the name to suggest, he said, “Adventurous, intelligent, and fun- not too bookish.” Also, we are generally avoiding names in the top 100-200, not as a rule, but more as a preference.
I would love some suggestions for names that you think meet his criteria! The child’s LN will start with an E, 2 syllables, Dutch in origin, ends with an “ertz” sound.
Adventurous, intelligent and fun :
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Japheth[/name] (nn [name]Japhy[/name]?)
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Zane[/name] or [name]Zander[/name] nn [name]Zane[/name]
[name]Alexei[/name] (a-[name]LEX[/name]-ee)
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Fergus[/name]
[name]Jago[/name]
[name]Luca[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]/[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Wolf[/name] (you could pick a name meaning wolf, such as [name]Conall[/name], and nickname him this)
[name]Indigo[/name].
Thanks for your suggestions so far!
I really like
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name]
Some of the other names I like are out for various reasons (typically because we know somebody very close to us with that name), including:
[name]Tate[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
I like [name]Felix[/name] too, but a friend of mine has a friend named [name]Felix[/name] and he has always called him “Feely-boy,” and I’d have a hard time disassociating the name from that NN (which I think is pretty awful!).
[name]Leah[/name], just saw your post- we def. have similar tastes! I’ve proposed [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Theo[/name]) to DH in the past, and he has nixed both of them. I love [name]Everett[/name], but it’s too close to baby’s LN. [name]Fintan[/name] is new to me- I’ll have to look into that one.
Boys names currently under consideration- that we haven’t thrown our hearts behind- include Tasman, [name]Ewan[/name], and [name]Lazarus[/name]. Others that I’ve proposed to DH, so you see my style, are [name]Perseus[/name], [name]Odysseus[/name], [name]Casimir[/name], Hallston, [name]Stellan[/name]. Names we like but have ruled out for being too popular are [name]Owen[/name], [name]Henry[/name], and [name]Sebastian[/name]. [name]Hope[/name] that helps!
I like [name]Lazarus[/name]! Here are some more ideas. I checked the SSA website to make sure they were not in the top 200.
[name]Trent[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Nash[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]
[name]Abram[/name]
[name]Paxton[/name]
[name]Romeo[/name]
[name]Brock[/name]
[name]Remy[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Zebediah[/name]- [name]Zeb[/name]
[name]Orion[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Davin[/name]
[name]Boston[/name]
[name]Porter[/name]
[name]Cade[/name]
[name]Deacon[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Patton[/name]
I’m glad you likes some of them. [name]Fintan[/name] is a great name.
It is a bummer be doesnt like [name]Callum[/name]. I love all [name]Cal[/name] names, there is just something about [name]Cal[/name] that sounds so friendly and nice. There is also [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Calahan[/name].
I think the suggestions you picked out definitely fulfil your desire for a fun, handsome name. My only negative comments would be that [name]Finn[/name] seems to be quite popular at the moment (althought the more unusual full name [name]Finnian[/name] could counteract that), and [name]Archer[/name] might get lost in the current trend for occupational names. The nn [name]Archie[/name] is great, though!
My personal favourite of your list is [name]Dashiell[/name].
I love some of the names you suggested!
A few which remind me of them :
[name]Ulysses[/name]
[name]Apollo[/name] (general mythology names, which you seem to like)
[name]Caspian[/name] ([name]Casimir[/name], plus ends like [name]Sebastian[/name])
[name]Arthur[/name] (like [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Henry[/name])
[name]Tristan[/name] (same feel as the mythological names and ends in an N, but seems to be gaining popularity)
Pyramus ([name]Perseus[/name])
[name]Zebedee[/name] nn [name]Zeb[/name] (a little like [name]Zane[/name], and Biblical like [name]Lazarus[/name])
[name]Fabian[/name] (same ending as [name]Sebastian[/name]).
Here are some that I love. Some I think are your style, some I’m not sure:
[name]Alastair[/name], [name]Clayton[/name] or [name]Clay[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Conan[/name] (someone’s gotta bring it back, I love that name!), [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Clyde[/name], [name]Grover[/name] (another one I want to break out of it’s box and make a comeback. I love it!)
More great suggestions!
In addition to the ones I’ve already praised, I like:
[name]Orion[/name]
[name]Apollo[/name]
[name]Caspian[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Axel[/name], [name]Gideon[/name] and [name]Amos[/name] are all under consideration for baby’s MN, since we have those names in our family tree (and they are excellent names, [name]IMO[/name]).
DH has looked at this thread and his favorites are:
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
a few of which surprise me, since they’re more popular than he normally goes for. Somewhere in all this mix, surely we’ve hit upon the right name!
