Needing some inspiration please! 🦋

Hi again! I’m sorry for the frequent posts, but I’m needing some inspiration if you don’t mind helping me out! I’m looking for some more girls’ names with positive or uplifting meanings that are easy to pronounce and spell.

Names I like but am unable to use:
Nora (or anything I may intuitively shorten to get it.)
Zoe (because it is one of my closest friends’ names)
Saoirse (this one is unfortunately out due to my location and spelling and pronunciation issues in my area. I love it so much!)

Names I *might * use:
Eliana
Lucy
Allegra (because will anyone really care about the allergy medication on. 20 years?! Plus, I think if you actually know someone with such a name, associations change.)
Sophie or Sophia
Grace or Gracie

Personally, I don’t care for the names Claire or Clara. They are both beautiful names, they’re just not for me. No offense intended if you have these names or love them.

Is Selah unusable if my dog’s name is Sadie? I know the spellings of the names are very different, but I’m curious to hear what you think. For context, my pronunciation of this name is similar to that of the name Sailor.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Please give me as much honest feedback as possible. You will not offend me.

Thank you so much!

Hii,
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are such beautiful names with great meanings and many possible nicknames
Like:
• [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Liana[/name_f] or even [name_f]Anna[/name_f] / [name_f]Ana[/name_f], for [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
• [name_f]Luz[/name_f] for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. (Also cute is the spelling Lucie)
• [name_u]Allie[/name_u] for [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] (i don’t think the allergy medication is something anyone would care about. I have asked many friends what they think of this name and no one knows the medication + i find the meaning of [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] in italian and the music reference “allegro” as in playing joyfully soooo cute that i don’t think of anything else :musical_score:)
• [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] / [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] / [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], has the grestest meaning in my language “wisdom” and it is a grear choice if you want a name that can be easily used in many languages and countries
• [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a very beautiful name, princess-like, it reminds me of [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], although i think i would use it as a middle name for some reason

I don’t think [name_f]Selah[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] are too similar. Especially if you pronounce it like [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]. I think you can use it.

Some other names you may like:

[name_f]Renata[/name_f] “Reneé”
[name_f]Melita[/name_f] “Lita” (from the greek word for honey)

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_u]Jade[/name_u]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Lilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] / [name_f]Cara[/name_f]

@el_flute Thank you so much! I really appreciate your feedback, and I’m happy to hear that you think [name_f]Selah[/name_f] is usable. It may be considered an outlier by some among other names I love, but I think it works with several of them. Of your suggestions, my favorites are:
Esmè
[name_f]Kiara[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u] +
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]

I also love the meaning of [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]!

Thank you again!

Eliana is pretty, light and bright - full of warmth and style

Lucy - strong but sweet, literary and lovely

Allegra - bold and cool - I’ve never really seen the allergy meds where I am so I can’t comment on that

Sophie - stylish and sophisticated, sweet too

Sophia - solid and international - lacks spark for me though

Gracie/Grace - it’s okay - a solid but popular choice

I think it would be fine

A few other ideas:

Beatrix
Shiloh
Mira
Enid
Eva
Felicity
Nadia
Stella
Vera
Adele
Esther
Mabel

I don’t think having a dog named [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] should stop you from using [name_f]Selah[/name_f]. The first initial and the length are the only similarities.

I’ve never seen the allergy medication (though I have heard of the association). Mostly, I think of Byron’s short-lived daughter.

I love the name [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]! [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], Sophia/Sophie, Grac(i)e are pretty. When thinking of [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] I think of The Great [name_f]British[/name_f] Bake Off which isn’t a bad thing. When asking my boyfriend, (he’s 19) it doesn’t make him think of allergy medicine but music. (He is brutally honest, I would know if he didn’t like it).
Here are some names I can think of off the top of my head…
[name_u]Esme[/name_u]
[name_f]India[/name_f]
[name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] (Elle ay na)
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Juno[/name_u]

I don’t think that [name_f]Selah[/name_f] can be off limits as I know sisters named [name_f]Selah[/name_f] and Sadie-Rose and they are different enough!
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this is of any help! :star_struck:

I could definitely see [name_f]Selah[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] being confusing since it seems like you’re pronouncing the first syllable the same with a long A sound (“say”). Maybe try calling both names out and see if your dog gets confused? Because if she does then a toddler probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference from the other room either and you’d get both of them running over everytime you called.

I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] from your list.

I don’t really pay attention to meanings but a few I can think of with nice ones are:
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]

@justmillie Thank you so much for your reply and for loving [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] with me! It’s good to know that your boyfriend doesn’t associate [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] with the allergy medication. I think it’s a US thing! [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but the more I think about it, as much as I like it, it is not a name I absolutely love enough to put a future daughter through having to explain that she was not named after the allergy medication every time she introduces herself. I appreciate your help in thinking this through.

Of your suggestions, I love:

[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
Esmè
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Juno[/name_u] +
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]

Thank you again!

@sammaegre Thank you so much! You have nailed my concern with [name_f]Selah[/name_f]. I know there are multiple pronunciations of the name. When I say it with a long e as in see, it sounds off to me me because I’ve only ever heard it pronounced as Say-la. I think it’s probably best to eliminate it from my list, because, like [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], it isn’t a top favorite.

Of your suggestions, I love:
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] +
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] the most!

Thank you again!
