What do you guys think of the name [name_f]Nelia[/name_f]? It is new for me, and I’m loving it right away. You pronounce it like you would in [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. It could also be a new way to get to [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Nell[/name_f], which I love, but don’t care for any other long forms.
I do not know how I feel, I have never heard it. I prefer [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with a nickname of [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nell[/name_f].
I would have pronounced it “[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]-ah,” not “Nee-lee-ah.” I actually like my incorrect pronunciation better than the correct one, though. I don’t like the “kneel” sound But it does look pretty. Isn’t [name_f]Nelia[/name_f] a town in Australia or [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand? I love unique place names.
I prefer [name_f]Fenella[/name_f], which leads to [name_f]Nella[/name_f], or [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] leading to [name_f]Nelia[/name_f], but it seems fine to me.
I just can’t stand Neeley, a name they used to use on girls.
@lovemysweeties - Call me crazy, but I just can’t get on board with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I don’t know what it is about it. I love nicknames [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Nell[/name_f]/[name_f]Nora[/name_f], and I love a lot of other vintage names ([name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], & [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are favorites), but I just don’t love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
@tarynamber - I like [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]-ah as well. Something about “neel-ee-ah” sounds kind of… I don’t know, international? For me, it has the same feel as [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] or [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], which I love. And according to google, yes, there is a town in Australia called [name_f]Nelia[/name_f]. Interesting!
@lesliemarion - [name_f]Fenella[/name_f] & [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] are nice, but not my style.
I’m not really fond of names starting with [name_f]Nel[/name_f] and I really hate [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] (I suspect bad childhood memories because of [name_m]Little[/name_m] House on the [name_u]Prairie[/name_u] :D) but I think [name_f]Nelia[/name_f] doesn’t sound too bad
I prefer [name_f]Celia[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f].
