I am a long time reader and nameberry fan, but first time poster. I am obsessed with all things baby-name!
My husband and I welcomed a baby girl named [name_f]Nell[/name_f] earlier this year. We have a long, four-syllable [name_m]German[/name_m] last name that starts and ends with “R”. We wanted to keep the first name short and sweet. [name_f]Nell[/name_f] hit all the right notes for us.
For fun, we’re starting to discuss future baby names. We love the idea of the name [name_f]Tess[/name_f], but wonder if it’s too similar to [name_f]Nell[/name_f] with its consonant-e-double consonant. Are [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f] too matchy-matchy for siblings?
Not at all! I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] together; they follow that pattern but sound completely different. If you had suggested [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_u]Jess[/name_u], that might be too much, but [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] are perfect.
Thanks for the input. My last name is so long and cumbersome that it’s hard to find something that works well. I love [name_f]Tess[/name_f] for a future daughter and glad you all feel it’s not too similar to [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. If the next one is a boy, we have no clue what we’ll name him, so I might be back for advice then!
