Hey there, berries!
I’ve recently started a liking for the name [name_f]Nell[/name_f], however after some pondering I can’t seem to decide if I like it best as a given name, a nickname for [name_f]Helene[/name_f], or as a short form for [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Or perhaps scraping it entirely for the given name [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Opinions?
Thanks!
I like both [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f], but each has a different feel to me. [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is carefree and cheerful, while [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is tailored and prim. For that reason, I could see [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] as a playful nickname for [name_f]Nell[/name_f], rather than the other way around. (Think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Janie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sue[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Susie[/name_f].)
I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f] as a diminutive for helen [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f] on its own. It makes a gorgeous sassy name. I also like [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], and it has a different feel - more sweet vintage, and of course [name_f]Nell[/name_f] could then be used as well.
For a longer form with [name_f]Nell[/name_f] as nickname I prefer [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Helena[/name_f]. I also like the understated classic [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]. [name_f]Helene[/name_f] is ok though.
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] on its own
I have never thought of this name as its own name, but I am really liking the simple [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. It has a lot of spunk!
I prefer [name_f]Nell[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but I strongly dislike it on its own. I have a friend who has a 5 month old named [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and she is constantly asked “what is that short for?” which drives her bonkers LOL
I’d say a nn for [name_f]Helene[/name_f] is also lovely!
