Simple enough question, what are names you always see on baby list but some how never get picked or chosen for a baby’s name? For me I never met an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] given how popular it is nor a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]? I also never see a [name_f]Freya[/name_f] get chosen as a name but always see it on someone’s baby name list! Quite weird but there are names I consider to be popular but never chosen (It reminds me of the saying “always the bridesmaid never the bride” don’t know if it applies here but I feel there’s name that while are popular never really get chosen in the end!
I know what you mean!
Lots of my friends have mentioned having some variant of [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]/Raphaela/Rafa/Raffy/Rafferty/Rafe on their lists, but none have chosen it. We toyed with [name_u]Rafa[/name_u] and [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] ourselves, actually!
I see [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] on quite a few lists too, but have never met a child with either of these names.
For a boy, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Also classic names that feel more like “dad” names now, but are actually still relatively high on the pop charts: [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], etc. I never ever meet little boys with these names!
I name I always hear people say or talk about is [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. It’s always an old school friend has a baby called [name_m]Otto[/name_m] or such an such loves [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. Or a friend has [name_m]Otto[/name_m] on there list but me personally I’ve never met an [name_m]Otto[/name_m] despite all the hype!
I work in a school, so I’ve met plenty of Olivias and Emmas. Never met an [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or a [name_m]Chester[/name_m].
I’ve only met 1 [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] despite it being so popular. I’ve never met a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] either. For boys, I don’t think I’ve ever met a [name_m]William[/name_m] (although I know a [name_u]Liam[/name_u] and a [name_m]Will[/name_m], neither are [name_m]William[/name_m]). Of the 12 names in my user card, all are in the top 200 but I’ve only met a [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], a [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and a [name_u]Noah[/name_u].
I’ve seen [name_m]Silas[/name_m] around a lot on forums and my sister even considered it for her son but I’ve never met a [name_m]Silas[/name_m].
We considered [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] but decided against it because it was #3 in our state, but I think I’ve only met one little [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] that I can remember.
I don’t know very many [name_u]Liam[/name_u]’s.
From the Top 10 boys and girls list, these are the ones that I know 0-1 people of!
Liam
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
We used [name_f]Freya[/name_f] as a middle for our daughter actually! I’ve never met one either despite how popular it is on here. I know of several little ones named [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/Sofia, [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] but have never met a [name_u]Liam[/name_u] or a little [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (they’re all into their 30s now).
Weirdly, I’ve never met an [name_f]Emma[/name_f] that’s younger than 18 even though it’s been the number one name for so long! I do know a few Olivias though. I also don’t know any baby Noahs (#2) or Benjamins ( #7). For me, the most common names amongst my friends have been [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] (of various spellings), [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f] (which is interesting since it’s not very high on the list!), [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
The main one for me is [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. It’s always spoken of as a popular name - too popular - and yet I barely ever hear it and don’t know any. I wish it really wasn’t a commonly used name as it’s one I’ve always found very beautiful.
Not necessarily an “always mentioned but never picked” name, but [name_u]Madison[/name_u]! It was in the top 5 the year I was born, and yet I don’t know a single one. I know plenty of Addisons and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/Madelines, plus one [name_u]Madigan[/name_u], but never a [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. I’ve never even gone to school with one.
I have never met (these are all Top 20):
- [name_f]Ava[/name_f] (I did know an [name_f]Ada[/name_f])
- [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
- [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
- [name_f]Camila[/name_f]
- [name_f]Luna[/name_f]
- [name_f]Mila[/name_f]
- [name_f]Aria[/name_f]
- [name_f]Camila[/name_f] (I did know a [name_u]Camille[/name_u])
I think I have only met one of (also Top 20):
- [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] (though I have met a LOT of Olivias)
- [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
- [name_u]Mason[/name_u]
- [name_u]Logan[/name_u]
- [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
- [name_u]Avery[/name_u] (female, I don’t think I’ve ever met a male Avery)
I totally get what you mean. When you look up top ten girls names in USA These are the name that always come up.v
