New baby coming soon

We have our 2nd baby due in 9 weeks. We are not sure of the sex yet but I am after help/suggestions on a boys name. I have a 2 year old boy called [name]Hamish[/name] and live in Australia.
My husband is not very helpful in suggesting names but will veto the ones on my list.

Below is a list that my Husband has said he likes
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Alfred[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]/[name]Finley[/name]/[name]Finlay[/name]/[name]Flynn[/name]

This is what he hasn’t committed to but not an absolute no yet
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Wesley[/name]
[name]Monty[/name]
[name]Jensen[/name]
[name]Fergus[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] (NN [name]Ted[/name])

Our son [name]Hamish[/name] was very nearly [name]Fergus[/name], we both still like the name but are not sure we will be starting a trend with 2 very Scottish names. Middle name will probably be [name]Phillip[/name] and possibly [name]Jensen[/name]

Any thoughts would be very helpful

I’ve always like the name [name]Luther[/name] with [name]Hamish[/name]. I also think [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Fergus[/name] make a great sibset. I also like [name]Felix[/name] from your list.

Other suggestions:
[name]Lyle[/name]
[name]Lucian[/name]/[name]Lucius[/name]
[name]Reuben[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name] or [name]Sylvan[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Marcus[/name]
[name]Leander[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Alistair[/name]
[name]Nelson[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Clyde[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you like any of these?

Thank you lahdedaah.
[name]Graham[/name] is actually [name]Hamish[/name]'s middle name!
Not really much of a fan of you suggestions, not quite my style but I do appreciate them.
You are right [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Fergus[/name] go well together and [name]Felix[/name] is funky

Here are some more ideas for [name]Hamish[/name]'s brother.
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Murray[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name]
[name]Corbin[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Conall[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Axel[/name]
Garrett
Callum
Wyatt
Quincy
Owen

Any thoughts would be very helpful[/QUOTE]

Here are some thoughts from another Aussie who is in touch with the tastes of modern Aussie parents.

Well I am having a love affair with the name [name]Harry[/name], it is No 1 in [name]England[/name] and deservedly so imho.

[name]Jensen[/name] is super cool too and if you like both then [name]Harry[/name] [name]Jensen[/name] sounds great as a combo.

[name]Jensen[/name] [name]Findlay[/name] also has a good flow.

I am not mad about your DH’s list they do not go all that well with [name]Hamish[/name].

I think [name]Lachlan[/name], [name]Walter[/name] and [name]Grant[/name] are very good substitutes.

In particular I like [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Hamish[/name] as brothers, and a friend of the family just had a baby named [name]Locke[/name] so I thought that this may appeal to you too.

I nearly forgot - what about [name]Toby[/name]. I think he is terrific and brothers [name]Toby[/name] and [name]Hamish[/name] are a match made in heaven. I have only ever met one [name]Toby[/name].

I also think my son’s name - [name]Miles[/name] would fit perfectly. It is a name that was super uncommon when he was growing up and now it is sometimes heard of but overall I have only ever heard of 5 babies named [name]Miles[/name].

I am not a [name]Gus[/name] fan but I don’t mind [name]Fergus[/name] and like it a thousand times more than [name]August[/name] ((which is pretty popular in the USA right now).

[name]Hi[/name] there,

I just wanted to say I love the name [name]Hamish[/name] and I’m actually considering it for our first son who is due soon. What is your experience of having a son with this name - do you come across it alot? I’m worried it might be getting too popular (we are in Australia too).

Of your name choices I really love [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Finlay[/name] as well as [name]Alfred[/name] ([name]Alfie[/name]) and I also agree the [name]Lachlan[/name] goes very well with [name]Hamish[/name]. Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestions. I like [name]Malachi[/name] but vetoed it as it is NN is close to my NN. I also like milo but it is a popular milk drink here, I also like [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Owen[/name] but can’t use them

[name]Rollo[/name]
Thank you for your response, I was hoping to get another Aussie.
I like [name]Henry[/name] an [name]Harry[/name] but would prefer not to have 2 H names. [name]Love[/name] [name]Lachlan[/name] as well but way too popular around here. [name]Toby[/name] not a fan but I like [name]Miles[/name]. I personally am a [name]Gus[/name] fan and my husband likes Ferg so I think I am leaning towards [name]Fergus[/name]

[name]Hamish[/name] is a great name and he suits it well, I am usually into nick names but don’t have one for him yet. We actually had to name him immediately after birth as he had to go to another hospital for intensive care. Our name shortlist was [name]Hamish[/name], [name]Heath[/name], [name]Angus[/name] and [name]Fergus[/name]. [name]Hamish[/name] was the first name out of my mouth so hat is what we called him! He attends daycare and is the only [name]Hamish[/name] there. I also only know of 1 other [name]Hamish[/name] but he is 14. Thank you for your thought about my names, much appreciated.

[name]Alfred[/name] and [name]Louis[/name] are good solid names, without being overly popular (although I think [name]Alfie[/name], the nn, is in the top 10 in the UK). They also have lots of nickname possibilities.

[name]Archer[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] are perfectly good, although I think they may both end up being creatures of this decade, the way [name]Jason[/name] was in the US in the 70’s.

I do like [name]Angus[/name]. Yes, it is true that if your kids are named [name]Angus[/name] and [name]Hamish[/name], people will just assume your husband will be wearing a kilt at the neighborhood barbecue. [name]Bruce[/name], [name]Charles[/name], [name]Neil[/name], and [name]Kenneth[/name] are also good options for a nod to Scottish heritage. I will also second the poster above who suggested [name]Walter[/name].

I have no problem with a family which has Scottish style names, in fact I love it and here are a few more ideas to think about.

[name]Alister[/name]
[name]Ewan[/name]
[name]Cormac[/name] (I love the nn of [name]Mac[/name])
[name]Dermot[/name] (unusual but I find it appealing)
[name]Donovan[/name] ( I like the full name but not so fond of nn [name]Don[/name])
[name]Cooper[/name] (Yes, it is popular but [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Cooper[/name] make a good pair. My daughter’s second baby was going to be named [name]Lachlan[/name] which was Dad’s middle name and I love it, sorry it is too popular for you).
[name]Philip[/name] in the first name spot with the great nn of [name]Pip[/name].
[name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Clinton[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name] is really nice. I like its modern vibe.
[name]Vaughan[/name] such a handsome name

[name]Love[/name] [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] (you could have [name]Fintan[/name])
[name]Love[/name] [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Fergus[/name] (nn [name]Gus[/name] is awesome!!!)

[name]Love[/name] [name]Rollo[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Cormac[/name] (nn [name]Mac[/name])

Hoping for more comments on this one, we are now 4 weeks away and still no closer to deciding on a name.
I have been thinking about [name]Dylan[/name] lately as well

Would love some more suggestions

I am getting some inspiration from a famous Aussie poem by [name]Banjo[/name] [name]Patterson[/name], “[name]Clancy[/name] of The Overflow”. I think [name]Clancy[/name] would be a great fit and it is so terribly Aussie and an original choice too.

[name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Clancy[/name] (he sounds like a cheeky fellow to me) and it kind of sounds like [name]Darcy[/name] (maybe that is a bad connection with so many girls claiming [name]Darcy[/name]) but I like [name]Clancy[/name] he has a bit of charisma for me, or [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name], or [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Rafferty[/name].

Good luck!

I love [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] (any of the variants).

I love can very easily see [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Fergus[/name] together. I am pretty sure these are the brothers names from the movie “Brave”. If script writers put them together, then they must a perfect sibset. ; )

Not being an Aussie, I haven’t heard of [name]Lachlan[/name] much at all. I [name]LOVE[/name] it and the nn [name]Locke[/name]. I know you said it was too popular over there, but it might be my new guilty pleasure. I wish it was a bit more known here. Anyways, I also love that sibset [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name].

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Fergus[/name] nn Gug or Ferg!!! I think a little [name]Fergus[/name] would be adorable!

[name]Rollo[/name] - thank you for your ideas I like [name]Rafferty[/name] but not a fan of [name]Clancy[/name]

Shanapops - just looked at the brave movie trailer and [name]Fergus[/name] is the king and [name]Hamish[/name] is one of the triplets, still like [name]Fergus[/name] along with [name]Finn[/name]

Backstory roots - glad you like [name]Fergus[/name] as well

My next delemma is middle names, we were thinking [name]Phillip[/name] as it is a family surname but [name]Fergus[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] don’t sound good together. [name]Do[/name] you think I could add [name]Jenson[/name] as a first middle name and leave .phillip as a second middle name. My mums name was [name]Jennifer[/name] and it is a way of honoring her, she will never meet the new baby as she died late last year

[name]Finlay[/name] [name]Jenson[/name] would be adorable, two new loves of mine but I don’t think [name]Finlay[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] would work at all.

I do like [name]Archer[/name] but I don’t see it as a brother for [name]Hamish[/name] to be honest.

[name]Alfred[/name] would work with [name]Hamish[/name], but again [name]Alfred[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] sounds off so [name]Alfred[/name] [name]Jenson[/name] would be better.

I love [name]Louis[/name] and [name]Wesley[/name] from the other list, and [name]Edward[/name] nn [name]Ted[/name] is very cute.

[name]Hamish[/name] & [name]Louis[/name] (Loo-iss) sounds odd, but would be fine if it were [name]Hamish[/name] & [name]Louis[/name] (Loo-ee).

I think [name]Finlay[/name] or [name]Wesley[/name] would get my vote but only if the middle name is [name]Jenson[/name].

Personally, I am over [name]Harry[/name] as a name. Think naked [name]Prince[/name], [name]One[/name] Direction.

[name]Jenson[/name] sounds nice. Different! [name]Jenson[/name] and [name]Hamish[/name] match well.

[name]Jenson[/name] [name]Finn[/name] sounds so cool.

Aussie here too!

Fergus kind of matches [name]Jenni[/name]fer too.
Still like [name]Fergus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name]. I have only taught one [name]Gus[/name].

I love [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Fergus[/name]…think this is your best bet. I wouldn’t worry about a naming trend. If you have a daughter at some point, it would be easy to do something different than Scottish because of the different sex. [name]Even[/name] if you have a third son someday, I still think you could break rank and find something that would work with both names.

I always struggle with boys names but thinking along the lines of [name]Finlay[/name]/[name]Finn[/name], have you considered [name]Finnbar[/name] or [name]Ffion[/name]/[name]Fionn[/name]? They are more unusual than [name]Finn[/name] here in the UK but Aussie naming trends could be totally different.
Good luck!

I love how much meaning [name]Jensen[/name]/[name]Jenson[/name] has for you. I happen to love the name [name]Phillip[/name], and between the initial f sound and the n’s in [name]Jensen[/name] I can even see a [name]Philip[/name] [name]Jensen[/name] going by [name]Finn[/name]. But I also think a double middle is fine in this case, [name]Finn[/name] [name]Jensen[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] or [name]Fergus[/name] [name]Jensen[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] are strong names.
