New baby, need fresh names!

Hello! You all were so helpful in helping us name our first child a couple years ago that this is the first place I thought for baby number two! I need some new ideas for our second child. We dont know the gender yet, so I’m looking for suggestions for boys and girls. Our daughter’s name is [name]Gwyneth[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]. I tend to like nature inspired names with a British flair. My husband is very conservative, and if he hasn’t heard the name before, he usually doesn’t like it. Here are names that we considered for our first child. None of them seem fresh to me, but maybe they’ll help you determine our style. We’ve got a long way to go before the baby comes, so thanks for all your help in advance!

Girls:
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - DH’s fav
[name]Violet[/name] - too popular now
[name]Penelope[/name] - still like it
[name]Vivian[/name] - a friend used this, so it’s out

Boys:
[name]Barrett[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name] - I apparently like the “etts”
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]

Names I love, but DH hasn’t gone for:
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name]
Abram
Truman
Linden

Thanks again!

[name]Elizabeth[/name] – a bit too popular. Have you considered [name]Elise[/name]? [name]One[/name] of my favorites.
[name]Violet[/name] – [name]Sienna[/name], another color name. Sort of.
[name]Penelope[/name] – another p name I like is [name]Phoebe[/name]!
[name]Vivian[/name] – ooh how about [name]Valeria[/name]?

Boys – [name]Elliot[/name] has a nice ring to it. Or [name]Elliott[/name], with two ts of course!

So if you want fresh names, you could reinvent them:
[name]Elizabeth[/name]: [name]Elizabetta[/name], [name]Elizabelle[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]: If you like color names, you could use [name]Scarlett[/name] or even [name]Indigo[/name]!
[name]Penelope[/name]: [name]Paisley[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Polina[/name], [name]Poppy[/name]–I actually like all of these!
[name]Vivian[/name]: [name]Venezia[/name] (my best friend came across this name and I love it!)

If you go for the -etts or the other boys names and they’re uncommon, you could always put a common name like [name]Ryan[/name] with it to balance it out. You could even do a “[name]Pax[/name] [name]Harrison[/name]” which is totally uncommon, but I think it sounds cool!!!

I also love nature inspired names! Here are some uncommon names that could work:
[name]Juniper[/name]- this is actually a unisex name!
[name]Nova[/name]- it’s not nature necessarily, but my all time favorite name!!!
[name]Nastassia[/name]- not nature either but I found this name this other day and I just loved it! (pronounced nas-tash-ah not [name]Natasha[/name]!!)

I love [name]Clover[/name] and maybe you could go for [name]Clove[/name] instead!!!

I hope I helped you and good luck!!!

[name]Elizabeth[/name] - It’s nice but not exciting. [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Lilibeth[/name], [name]Lilibet[/name], & [name]Isabel[/name] are my favourite variations.

[name]Violet[/name] - I love it, but it is very popular. [name]Viola[/name] is related yet completely unloved, popularity-wise, compared to [name]Violet[/name]. Less common botanicals could be [name]Verbena[/name] or [name]Veronica[/name]. Or, going for a different connection: [name]Lilac[/name] or [name]Indigo[/name]?

[name]Penelope[/name] - I love [name]Penelope[/name].

[name]Vivian[/name] - I do love [name]Vivian[/name]/[name]Vivien[/name]/[name]Vivienne[/name]. It’s a shame its been grabbed. At the moment, I love V names, so I could go on about [name]Viveca[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Vesper[/name], or [name]Valeria[/name]… or similar sound, I also like [name]Imogen[/name]… or the meaning “life” - which [name]Viveca[/name] and [name]Vita[/name] share but so do [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Aisha[/name], [name]Enid[/name], and [name]Eve[/name]. (Of [name]Eve[/name] vs. [name]Eva[/name]/[name]Ava[/name], I’m [name]Eve[/name] all the way)

Boys:
[name]Emmett[/name] - My favourite of your boy names by far.

Names I love, but DH hasn’t gone for:
[name]Felicity[/name] - [name]Worth[/name] trying [name]Felicia[/name]. [name]Felicity[/name] and similar virtue names [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Amity[/name] all appeal.
[name]Daphne[/name] - [name]Delphine[/name] and [name]Dinah[/name] are probably my favourite D names for girls.
[name]Clover[/name] - [name]Clover[/name] is so perky and cute. There’s so few good -er ending names for girls, my faves are probably [name]Vesper[/name], [name]Esther[/name], and [name]Winter[/name]. Hesper isn’t on the site but is a mythology name relating to the evening star.
[name]Marigold[/name] - lovely.
[name]Abram[/name] - [name]Bram[/name], [name]Avram[/name]? I think [name]Bram[/name] is my favourite of the directly [name]Abraham[/name]-related. Or other A names, like [name]Amos[/name], [name]August[/name].
[name]Linden[/name] - I love this one, it has a nice nature quality. I am not fond of many of the -den names, the only similar ending ones I like are [name]Rowan[/name] (another nature name incidentally), [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Aidan[/name], [name]Samson[/name], and [name]Owen[/name].

Thanks, everyone. You have touched on the exact problem I have with [name]Elizabeth[/name]. It is too popular, and it is boring. However, it is my hubby’s favorite. He’s only suggested two names in 3 years - [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Isabelle[/name]. [name]Isabelle[/name] got a swift veto because of its current uber-popularity. I kept [name]Elizabeth[/name] on the list because it has fantastic nn possibilities. [name]Elsa[/name] or [name]Elsie[/name] is my favorite. I’ve suggested other variations of [name]Elizabeth[/name] to DH, but I get a disgusted look everytime. I do have a slight problem with giving one child a name that’s been on the top 20 for a loooong time, and the other child a name that’s barely broken the top 1000. Sigh. My boy list does need some work. I don’t love boys’ names that way I love girls’ names. I have a much harder time coming up with boy names. They have to be slightly macho, or the hubby won’t like them (nothing like [name]Steele[/name] or [name]Ryder[/name], but still a little macho). Surnames always sound a little macho to me, so I think that’s why so many have ended up on my list. I’m not particularly attached to the surname concept though. I appreciate all your suggestions. Some that I’m going to add to my list for discussion are:

[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Vita[/name] - I love the “life” meaning. Meaning is important to me.
[name]Lilac[/name] - I know it will be a “no go” with the hubs, but I still am putting it on the list!
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Bram[/name] - I don’t know if it’s enough of a name for me though. Plus, I tend to stay away from one syllable names because our last name is one syllable.
[name]Avram[/name] - I’ve never come across this one. I’ll have to do some research, but I’m liking it.

Of your “tt” boy names, I love [name]Barrett[/name] best with [name]Gwyneth[/name].

For an [name]Elizabeth[/name] option, how about [name]Eliza[/name] or [name]Elspeth[/name]? or just [name]Elsa[/name]?

Other girls names you might like:
[name]Estelle[/name] / [name]Estella[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Mirabelle[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] / [name]Annabelle[/name]
[name]Cicely[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] /[name]Celia[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name]

I know your DH loves it, but one thought on [name]Elizabeth[/name], to me it sounds a bit too similar to [name]Gwyneth[/name] with the two “th” sounds. If day to day she was known as [name]Eliza[/name] it would be less of an issue.

As for boys: [name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] (i am in love with the name [name]Leo[/name]!)

[name]Vivian[/name] is taken, how about a name I think of as a “sister” name… [name]Genevieve[/name] (lots of nn options)
[name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name]
Since DH rejected your flower names, how about some other flower inspired name?
[name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name] ([name]Rose[/name]/ [name]Rosa[/name]) (Really like this combo!)
[name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Lillian[/name] (nn [name]Lily[/name])
[name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] (nn [name]Maggie[/name])

[name]Daphne[/name] would be perfect!! I have a [name]Bennett[/name] so that would be my boy pick.

My first thought for a girl was [name]Felicity[/name]. I was looking at other names with the same meaning as [name]Gwyneth[/name]. Others are: [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Ilaria[/name] ([name]Hillary[/name]), and [name]Felix[/name] for a boy.
I adore [name]Linden[/name] for a girl! I really like the nn [name]Lindy[/name]. I love [name]Marigold[/name]! [name]Abram[/name] ([name]Bram[/name]) is one of my faves too!
Here are my suggestions to go with [name]Gwyneth[/name] (which is super cute, by the way, I don’t know why it isn’t more popular):
Girls:
[name]Bethany[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]/[name]Lyla[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Nicolette[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]

Boys:
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Jensen[/name]
[name]Dawson[/name]
[name]Lev[/name]
[name]Theon[/name]
[name]Tyrion[/name]
Sorry, I don’t have many suggestions for boys. Your list is already great! I like [name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name] together…maybe since they are both actor’s names. [name]Leo[/name] would work too. LOL
I also love Y’s in names, and since [name]Gwyneth[/name] has one, I suggested a few other names with Y’s in them.
[name]Happy[/name] naming!

Thanks! I forgot about [name]Bethany[/name], [name]Colette[/name], and [name]Fiona[/name]. If I lived in a perfect world, baby #2 would be a girl named [name]Felicity[/name]. [name]Alas[/name], DH strongly (and I mean strongly) dislikes the name. [name]Le[/name] sigh.

Oh, and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name], but it’s my dog’s name!
