New crushes - how do you view these?

So, lately I’ve been going over my lists again, seeing how my tastes have changed… I’ve fallen out of love with a few ([name]Bridget[/name], for example, no longer holds the same appeal) and I’ve been crushing on a couple of new ones.

The trouble I’m having is, I’m not sure how to categorize them! Neither is in the Top 1000 today, but they don’t seem quite old enough to be vintage. Nor were they ever popular enough to feel dated, though. I find both names to be feminine, yet no-frills… classy and understated.

The names are [name]Maura[/name] and [name]Nona[/name]. What do you berries think? [name]How[/name] would you categorize them?

I’d say it’s vintage, but newer vintage.

I like them, but prefer [name]Mara[/name] to [name]Maura[/name]. [name]Nona[/name] is a bit similar to [name]Nonna[/name] which means grandmother in Italian so I couldn’t use it. But I like the sound of it.

Maybe they are just north of vintage? [name]Nona[/name] is what we call Grandma. I think [name]Nona[/name] would work outside of my area (NE US) which is pretty heavily Italian. [name]Nona[/name] puts me in mind of [name]Nora[/name] & [name]Nina[/name] but it’s more intriguing because it isn’t as common…kind of like [name]Nova[/name] which I have been loving lately. [name]Maura[/name] isn’t my style- makes me think of [name]Laura[/name], [name]Muriel[/name], [name]Moira[/name]…I prefer [name]Mayra[/name], [name]Myra[/name], [name]Marietta[/name], [name]Meredith[/name].
I love [name]Mona[/name] / [name]Ramona[/name] & these 2 names make me think of that!

[name]Nona[/name] was what I called my grandma too, but I love [name]Nina[/name] and [name]Nova[/name], or you could use [name]Winona[/name] nn [name]Nona[/name]

Not a fan of either. Sorry.

Yeah, I’m familiar with [name]Nonna[/name] as a name for Grandma - don’t think it’s as much of an issue out here in [name]California[/name] as it might be in New [name]York[/name] or New [name]England[/name], since we don’t have as many Italians. I’m a big fan of musician [name]Nona[/name] Hendryx (a New Jerseyite herself!) which is what got me stuck on this name.

I know some might consider [name]Maura[/name] dated, but I find it a refreshing alternative to [name]Laura[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Cora[/name] et al., even though it’s not exactly stylish… same for [name]Nona[/name] with [name]Nina[/name] (and [name]Nora[/name], as well!).

Thanks for the input, keep it coming.

[name]Nona[/name] seems like a nn to me because I know a girl named Wonona who goes by [name]Nona[/name] as her nickname. I think [name]Winona[/name] or [name]Leona[/name] nn [name]Nona[/name] would be better.

I can’t say I’m particularly fond of [name]Maura[/name]. I don’t care for the sound. I think I’d rather see [name]Moira[/name]. It seems more interesting to me.

I really liked [name]Mora[/name] [name]Calypso[/name] for a while but I kept thinking people would say “more of” or “moron.”

[name]Nonna[/name] is what I call my grandmother, so… No.

I prefer [name]Bridget[/name]. I like [name]Maura[/name]. I think there are prettier N-a names than [name]Nona[/name] like [name]Nadia[/name], [name]Nahla[/name], [name]Nola[/name].

A nice category for them would be Intercontinental Modern Vintage…

Intercontinental Modern Vintage… I like it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, again, I’ve said I know about the grandma thing… not an issue for me.
