New Crushes - Thoughts?

Lately, I’ve been intentionally thinking of and looking for names that I haven’t really considered before - I feel like I needed a refresh from some of my old favorites. Below are a few names that have crossed my mind that I think I like, but I’m curious as to your opinions. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like/dislike any? Would you add any names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know of similar names?

My “random crush” list currently is:

[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_u]Carden[/name_u]

[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Maven[/name_f]
[name_m]Reeves[/name_m]

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - I really like [name_u]Arden[/name_u] -it has a magical and literary feel to it
[name_u]Carden[/name_u] - Interesting - kind of like a mix of classic [name_f]Cara[/name_f] and modern [name_u]Arden[/name_u].
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - I prefer it on a boy, but I can imagine it working on a girl
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] - sweet, vintage and warm
[name_f]Maven[/name_f] - love the sounds of this - it sounds a little mystical and witchy but also fresh and sweet
[name_m]Reeves[/name_m] - I like the sounds
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Zara[/name_f] - I enjoy the princessy meaning with the harder sounds of the name

[name_f]Anora[/name_f]

(got carried away again, sorry)

Sweet, unique, and still unpopular:
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]

Belongs to the boys, not girls:
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]

[name_f]Maven[/name_f] - this is a noun, not a name

[name_m]Reeves[/name_m] - the possessive is a mouthful…“that’s [name_u]Reeve[/name_u]-sez doll!” and it’s a surname, not a girl’s name

[name_u]Carden[/name_u] - horribly made-up.

[name_u]Arden[/name_u]- this is a solid name, tailored, strong, and while it’s neutral I do prefer it for girls.

[name_u]Carden[/name_u]- as I mentioned on your boy’s list, there’s a chance people will assume this is an invented/made up name even though it’s an old English occupational name. I also find [name_u]Arden[/name_u] more attractive sounding between the two very similar names.

[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]: I’m all for neutral names and not necessarily being able to assume the gender of a sibset based off names, but considering all of your boy’s picks definitely lean on the masculine side, picking a name like [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] (or [name_u]Carden[/name_u], or [name_m]Reeves[/name_m]) for a daughter would likely have people assuming she’s a brother if you have any boy’s down the line.

[name_f]Maven[/name_f]- I think this is perfectly usable as a name, but that there as similar names that are more striking (like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Mavis[/name_f].)

I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f], and actually think it compliments a lot of your boy picks nicely if you plan on having more kiddos (like [name_m]Rawlins[/name_m], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and [name_m]Reeves[/name_m],) likewise I could see it working well in a sister set with [name_u]Arden[/name_u] or [name_f]Maven[/name_f] (or similar variations of either of those names.)

[name_f]Zara[/name_f]- pretty but seems like the odd one out on your list, much like [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is the odd o e out for your boys. And like [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] I’d say ti wither table this one or keep it as a possible middle with another name.

My favorites on your list currently are [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and [name_u]Arden[/name_u].

Arden- I love Arden so much, I think it’s a really strong and tailored choice for a girl.

Carden- I don’t hate it but I much prefer Arden.

Emmett- much prefer it on a boy and I can’t really picture it on a girl

Greta- I have a negative association with this but there’s nothing wrong with it as a name. It’s sweet and uncommon

Maven- I really like the sound of this. It’s a more modern sounding alternative to Maeve

Reeves- I think the S on this is a little awkward but I like Reeve on a girl

Zara- I love Zara! She’s sweet and spunky. I picture a mischievous little princess

My favorites are Arden, Maven, and Zara.

[name_u]Arden[/name_u]- I like it but I’d give it to a boy not a girl.
[name_u]Carden[/name_u]- don’t like this at all. Looks and sounds made up. Suggestion of maybe [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] instead.
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]- love this name but on a boy
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]- old lady name not keen at all
[name_f]Maven[/name_f]- I like it. It’s different and quirky also like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] as an alternative.
[name_m]Reeves[/name_m]- don’t like this but I like [name_u]Reece[/name_u] for a girl.
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]- my favourite of them all. Short and sweet but a good strong name.

I love [name_u]Arden[/name_u] and [name_f]Zara[/name_f]. I went to school with a girl named [name_u]Arden[/name_u] and I never second-guessed it as a name, or a girl’s name specifically (though I do also like it for boys). Between [name_u]Arden[/name_u] and [name_u]Carden[/name_u], I would pick [name_u]Arden[/name_u] every time. I prefer [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] to [name_f]Maven[/name_f]. And I like [name_u]Reeve[/name_u], but I agree that [name_m]Reeves[/name_m] is kind of a tongue-twister. I prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] for boys. [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is nice but not my favorite.

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - Though it isn’t a name I’d pick, I do really like it! Similar names… [name_f]Afton[/name_f] or [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_u]Carden[/name_u] - Not a fan. Maybe [name_u]Carlin[/name_u], [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], or [name_u]Camden[/name_u].
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - I don’t mind a lot of unisex names, but I like this one much better for a boy. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is my favorite [name_f]Em[/name_f] name. Other suggestions… [name_u]Emery[/name_u], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], or [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]! It goes perfectly with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f] from your list! Short & sweet, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].
[name_f]Maven[/name_f] & [name_m]Reeves[/name_m] - I’m not a fan of either of these.
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] - Modern, sweet, & a little sassy. I think she goes well with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], & [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] from your list!

Thanks for the feedback! For the record, [name_u]Carden[/name_u] isn’t made up (it’s an occupational name as well as a surname), but I totally see how it comes off that way.

Interestingly, [name_u]Arden[/name_u] has always been a girl name to me…probably because I’ve only known females with this name.

Loving the support for [name_f]Greta[/name_f] - a nod to my Norwegian ancestry and I like it with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]!

[name_u]Reeve[/name_u] may replace [name_m]Reeves[/name_m] - I’m not married to this, but it is an honor to my grandmother, [name_f]Reva[/name_f], who recently passed.

[name_f]Zara[/name_f] is sort of a GP of mine. I really love it, but wonder if I’d actually use it (I can see some eye rolling coming from my family). [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you all seem to like it!

Any more feedback/suggestions? All ears!

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - [name_u]Arden[/name_u] has been a name I’ve liked for a long time!
[name_u]Carden[/name_u] - Prefer [name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - Cute, but definitely prefer on a boy.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] - Finally (hopefully) coming out of just being an ‘old lady’ name.
[name_f]Maven[/name_f] - I like it, reminds me of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] & [name_u]Raven[/name_u] which are both lovely names.
[name_m]Reeves[/name_m] - I’ve heard this only a couple times, definitely prefer on a boy though I get the appeal on a girl.
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] - Fresh and exciting! I like it.

[name_f]Reva[/name_f] is lovely! Maybe [name_u]Raven[/name_u], [name_f]Raina[/name_f], [name_f]Raya[/name_f], or [name_f]Raisa[/name_f] as honor names?

I actually really like [name_f]Reva[/name_f]! It sounds as fresh and exciting as [name_f]Zara[/name_f] does to me!

[name_u]Arden[/name_u]- [name_u]Arden[/name_u] is a cool, spunky name.
[name_u]Carden[/name_u]- Not a fan of this one. It sounds too made up to me for some reason.
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]- [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] but for a boy.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]- I’m pretty neutral on this name.
[name_f]Maven[/name_f]- Not a fan personally.
[name_m]Reeves[/name_m]- This is a pretty cool sounding name but I think it sounds better for a boy. Although, I can see it working just fine for a girl.
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]- This is pretty.

My opinions:

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - Sweet but maybe slightly pretentious?
[name_u]Carden[/name_u] - Too similar to the word ‘cardigan’
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - I love this for a boy
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] - I find this unattractive
[name_f]Maven[/name_f] - Interesting. I like [name_u]Raven[/name_u] but I’ve never heard of [name_f]Maven[/name_f]. I think it could grow on me
[name_m]Reeves[/name_m] - I like just ‘[name_u]Reeve[/name_u]’ for a girl
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] - Very cute!
