New Discussion: Florence- Out of Fashion or Old Fashioned

What do you Berries think of the name [name]Florence[/name]?
Sometimes when I think/hear/read it, I find it a very beautiful, elegant name (I think these thoughts are influenced by the amazing singer [name]Florence[/name] [name]Welch[/name] from band [name]Florence[/name] and the Machine), but at other times I think of it as an “old lady” name.

So begin the discussion of [name]Florence[/name] begin!

Current Favourites:
~[name]Olivia[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Sienna[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]

~[name]Levi[/name] [name]Noah[/name], [name]Jayden[/name] [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] “[name]Eli[/name]” [name]Parker[/name]

I think it’s just old-fashioned, not out of fashion.

[name]Gertrude[/name] is out of fashion to me, but [name]Florence[/name] is totally fine.

It’s nms but usable.

I prefer [name]Flora[/name], but [name]Florence[/name] is usable. It’s probably going to become more popular, actually, because of [name]Florence[/name] [name]Welch[/name].

I agree! She seems to be such a beautiful, graceful woman…

I think [name]Florence[/name] is ‘back’ here in [name]Oz[/name]…have heard of 2 babies named [name]Florence[/name] within the past 2 months. [name]One[/name] is using the nn [name]Flora[/name], not sure about the other one. I think it is going the way of the other old/vintage names & going to continue rising in popularity. Wouldn’t be surprised if UK stats showed this as we tend to follow their trends more than the US trends (I think).
For me, it is still an ‘old lady’ name but I had a great aunt named [name]Florence[/name]. My girlfriends and I also used to say that “Aunt [name]Flo[/name] came for a visit.” as code for our periods in junior high and high school and so I always think of that association!

This is great! Old memories can change your thoughts on so many things!!

i adore the name [name]Florence[/name]! i do think that its old fashioned but not out of fashion!

My favorite [name]Florence[/name] combos:

[name]Florence[/name] inez
[name]Ursula[/name] [name]Florence[/name]

I love it. If i used it, i would use the nickname if [name]Rory[/name] so she’d have a mix of vintage and modern.

Most berries seem to think this name is nice. Despite it being a place-name, I still find it very old-lady-like for some reason.

Very commonplace in [name]France[/name] for women in their 30s-40s. I don’t love it, but that’s because I knew a really nasty one, but I can muster enough subjectivity to see its vintage charm. And I think [name]Flo[/name] is an edgy-cute nickname.

I love [name]Florence[/name] and that is saying alot since I had a very strange boss with the name! It’s flowery, without being obviously so, and totally elegant.

[name]Florence[/name] is beautiful! Here in [name]England[/name], it’s being used a lot now, for all social classes. I don’t think it’s too old fashioned at all, it fits right in!

[name]Love[/name] it! So pretty, especially as a middle name. Makes me think of the Renaissance.

[name]Florence[/name] is a family name for me and it’s in my top 5. Absolutely love, with nns [name]Flora[/name] or [name]Wren[/name].

I love [name]Florence[/name]. I think it’s stunning. I don’t like a lot of the common nicknames ([name]Flo[/name], [name]Flossie[/name]) but that wouldn’t stop me from using it!
[name]Florence[/name] [name]Welch[/name]'s full name is [name]Florence[/name] [name]Leontine[/name], which I love. I also love [name]Florence[/name] [name]Leonora[/name].

I’m down with it - I think a lot of retro names are coming into fashion again, this doesn’t feel outdated to me, just quirky and retro.

Like it… love nn [name]Flo[/name]

old lady name

I like it, but do not like the nn Flo :frowning:

Thanks everyone! This a great discussion! Keep it coming! x
