[name_m]Hi[/name_m]
I am changing my first name legally so I am looking at options. It is important to me that my parents like my new name. I am getting them involved in the process by giving them lists of names and getting them to mark each name they like or dislike. Wherever there is overlap, the name goes on my list if both my parents like it. Afterwards I give the name some thought and if I decide I like the name enough it goes on the final list for consideration.
I have a few names that I am really considering for myself at the moment. However all three has a least one problem.
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] - I love the name but my parents dislike it. They say they can’t see me as an [name_f]Isabel[/name_f].
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - I love this name so much but my name now ([name_f]Amy[/name_f]) is short too. I have always wanted a first name that is longer probably both in sound and length. I can’t use [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], I have a neighbour called that and it would be just to weird renaming myself [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - I do like this name and is the long standing name on my list. However I do have a second cousin called [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] on my Mum’s side of the family. I am not sure if it would be to weird renaming myself [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. I don’t really ever see [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], her parents or her sister [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] but I do see [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]'s Aunt and Grandmother. As I would want everyone to call me by my new name I am wondering if [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is not the way to go.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] - Has pronunciation problems. My Mum wouldn’t know which pronunciation to call me. Either Nay-o-mee or Ni-o-mee. I don’t mind either pronunciation.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] a lot. However I am not sure if it flows well with my surname and I once had a cat called [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] was renamed within the first week we adopted her but I still feel [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] might be taken if that makes sense.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - I really like the name however my Mum does not. My Dad is neutral on the name. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a family name on my Dad’s side of the family too and many people have [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as their middle name in the family. I don’t want anyone to think I am naming myself after them as I am not.
A few names that have just recently been added to the maybe list…
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
So far that is all I have got for my new first name. I want to try and decide on my new first name before I start looking at names for middle names and making name combinations up now.
Does anyone have any ideas on what names are suitable for me to use as well and any name suggestions? I was born in 1990 and I am British. I live in the UK. Also please let me know your opinions on the names listed above.
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this. I really appreciate it.
