New List (Girls)

][SIZE=1]Warning, this list is rather long The list has shorten quickly, so I think I will take longer than a day to really think about more sensible names. Your opinions really did help. Thank you…(I have split them into two different post–girls and boys.[/SIZE]

As mentioned before, I have lost my name list and I am trying to make a new one. Some names are new and some are old. I am still working on it, but I would like to know your thoughts so far. Which ones do you find usable in real-life, would you hire a person with this name, or any other information that you would like to include as to why or why not. Depending on your comments, it may also help me shorten what I currently have. Also, I have included enunciation with some of them, are they the same or different in what you thought. Further suggestions are welcomed.

TOOK OFF SOME NAMES (Some I mostly liked the sound or appearance of and now that I have had some sleep and stopped obsessing over trying to get a new list started, I realized some are over the top. Thanks to those who have commented, and it has helped a lot. I may be adding and deleting a couple of times, so all that I ask, is for you continuous help. Thank you! Also, not all these names are listed for first name, some are middle name options.)

Six Letters or Less
Lilaia lil-EYE-ah
[name]Lilia[/name]

[name]Seven[/name] Letters
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Astraea[/name]
Illyria

[name]Isabeau[/name] "I am still debating on this one, I understand most of your reasons, but I just really like it still. There is still a possibility that I will move it to the middle.

[name]Liliana[/name] “I really want a longer form of Lily, but this one I keep coming back on. Unless, someone has some other nice uncommon, but known variants.”

[name]Nerissa[/name] nehr-ISS-sah
[name]Sabrina[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name]

Like, but possibly cannot use. (Unless you can change my thoughts.)

[name]Amelia[/name]
Amélie ah-may-[name]LEE[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name]
[name]Aemilia[/name] eye-MEE-lee-ah
[name]Melisande[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
Nadia
[name]Sakura[/name] sah-KOO-rah "Love the meaning of “Cherry Blossoms,” another one of my favorite flowers.)

Rethinking my middle names. Not too many “R” names I like enough to make a sibset out of, so thinking about what I like and what I think flows better.

Six Letters or Less
[name]Avalon[/name] It seems out of place with some of your other names, but other than that, I have no issues with it.
[name]Blythe[/name] Very lovely name… [name]One[/name] syllable names are difficult with surnames sometimes, but this name feels like a warm summer breeze.
[name]Isaura[/name] I [name]LOVE[/name] this name. It’s alluring and intriguing. I find it beautiful.
[name]Isla[/name] It’s a lovely name, but I’m kinda over it. The Spanish speaker in me cannot reconcile the pronunciation.
Lilaia I want to say li-[name]LAY[/name]-uh. I like [name]Liliana[/name] better from your sig.
[name]Lilia[/name] See Lilaia
[name]Lyra[/name] It’s ok.
Neaira Again, I feel like the pronunciation isn’t intuitive. That’s a big issue for me and just looking at on paper I wouldn’t go to your pronunciation automatically.
Sirona I have that “My [name]Sharona[/name]” song in my head when I see this. I want to like it, but then I think of the song.

[name]Seven[/name] Letters
[name]Aemilia[/name] With this one, I’d say save your daughter a lifetime of spelling her name and use [name]Amelia[/name].
[name]Ariadne[/name] Very beautiful. It’s right up there with [name]Isaura[/name] for me
[name]Artemis[/name] Um, I don’t know how I feel about this one.
[name]Astraea[/name] See [name]Artemis[/name]
Illyria Very pretty
[name]Isabeau[/name] To be honest, it’s my least favorite [name]Isabel/name variant. The “beau” ending skews masculine for me, even though I know it’s not.
[name]Liliana[/name] Very pretty.
[name]Nerissa[/name] I like this one too.
[name]Sabrina[/name] See [name]Liliana[/name]
[name]Titania[/name] I’d hesitate to use a name that starts with “t i t”, but I teach high school and they have corrupted my mind.
Virelai The pronunciation is pretty, but I don’t like how it looks spelled out. Does that make sense?
[name]Zenobia[/name] After meeting a student with this name, it’s really growing on me.

From your “eight letters or more” I only like [name]Cressida[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name]. I’d use [name]Ariadne[/name] over Caliadne and [name]Camila[/name] over [name]Camellia[/name]

I’m curious as to why you can’t use the names you listed. But here are some alternates…
[name]Caia[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] (yes, I know technically it’s the same name as [name]Naomi[/name], but they feel SO different to me… this could also be because I love [name]Noemi[/name]…)
[name]Persis[/name]
[name]Ianthe[/name]

R middles I would use:
[name]Raisa[/name]
[name]Reina[/name]
[name]Reverie[/name]

Wow! That is long. Ok, here goes. By the way, I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Rune[/name]!

Six Letters or Less
[name]Avalon[/name]- pretty. It’s useable and I think it would work well on a mature girl.
[name]Blythe[/name]- I have never been a fan of this, but it would work well- very professional.
[name]Isaura[/name] ee-SOW-rah- It looks nice, but I was totally unsure of how to pronounce it and I’m still not quite positive I’ve got it right.
[name]Isla[/name] EYE-lah-It seems cutesy at this moment in time, but I think that’s just because everyone is naming their baby [name]Isla[/name] and there aren’t many older people with this name right now. I like it.
Lilaia lil-EYE-ah- No idea how to pronounce it at first. Seems made up.
[name]Lilia[/name]- I like it, but I’m afraid she would get lost in the sea of Lilys. If you want her name to stand out I’d pick something else, but other wise it’s very pretty.
[name]Lyra[/name] leer-ah- I [name]LOVE[/name] it pronounced Lye-rah, but really dislike the Leer-ah pronunciation. I think people would often pronounce it wrong.
Neaira neh-EYE-rah- Couldn’t pronounce it- you would have problems with that, seems made up.
Sirona sih-ROH-nah- Reminds me of [name]Corona[/name] beer.

[name]Seven[/name] Letters
[name]Aemilia[/name] eye-MEE-lee-ah- Pronunciation problems as well as spelling issues.
[name]Ariadne[/name] ahr-ee-ahd-nee- I really like this and think it would work well.
[name]Artemis[/name]- Again, I like it. [name]Artemis[/name] is more known in mythology than [name]Ariadne[/name] and that may or may not cause problems. If you like who [name]Artemis[/name] was- the huntress- then go for it!
[name]Astraea[/name]- Meh, not a fan.
Illyria-Ditto
[name]Isabeau[/name]- I like it. Cute and sweet. Not sure about how it would grow, but I think it would be ok.
[name]Liliana[/name]- This would work well. It’s professional and playful.
[name]Nerissa[/name] nehr-ISS-sah-In my opinion this will not grow well.
[name]Sabrina[/name]- I like. [name]Will[/name] grow well.
[name]Titania[/name]-I don’t think this would work well. She would always get Titanium comments.
Virelai [name]VEER[/name]-ah-lie- Hard to pronounce and spell.
[name]Zenobia[/name]- Sounds witch-y like in the movie Spirited Away. I think it could work though.

Eight Letters or More
Caliadne kal-ee-AHD-nee- Pronunciation and spelling problems.
[name]Camellia[/name]- I like it!
Cerwidwen KEHR-id-wen- See Caliadne
[name]Cordelia[/name]- I like it. It’s wise and mature-sounding, but also sweet enough for a little girl. Would grow quite well in my opinion.
[name]Cressida[/name]- Reminds me of Hunger Games. It would be cool to use but I wouldn’t be brave enough.

Like, but possibly cannot use. (Unless you can change my thoughts.)

[name]Acantha[/name] ah-KAHN-thah-I don’t really like the sound, but it is easy enough to pronounce.
[name]Alcyone[/name] al-SYE-on-ee- Hard pronunciation.
[name]Amelia[/name]- This is becoming quite common now and would grow nicely.
Amélie ah-may-[name]LEE[/name]- I see pronunciation issues, but only a few. I think most people would get it right. I prefer [name]Amelie[/name]- ah-muh-[name]LEE[/name].
[name]Aurelia[/name]- I know a little [name]Aurelie[/name] so I think this will work just fine.
Belpheobe - Never been a fan, prefer [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name]- commented above
[name]Caia[/name]- know a few people named [name]Kaia[/name]. the [name]Caia[/name] spelling would work too and I think it would grow well.
Calluna - Not a fan
[name]Calypso[/name] kah-LIP-soh- I like this one and it would be great if you used it. I, again, wouldn’t have the guts to.
Chloé kloh-AY- With all the Chloes running around that is how it’s bound to be pronounced.
Coriander KOH-ree-an-der- Very cool. [name]Haven[/name]'t heard this as a name before. Cutting edge. Go for it!
[name]Corisande[/name] koh-rih-SAHND- Easy enough to pronounce, but not a fan of the sound
[name]Cosima[/name]- This has always felt like a dog name to me, but probably only because I had a puppy named [name]Comet[/name] once.
[name]Evadne[/name] ev-AHD-nee-Pretty.
[name]Evanthe[/name] eh-VAHN-thee-Pretty. Maybe a few pronunciation problems.
[name]Gaia[/name]- [name]How[/name] are you pronouncing it? gay-uh or guy-uh? Either way I see teasing options.
[name]Halcyon[/name] [name]HAL[/name]-see-on- Pretty and cutting edge, although not a favorite of mine. Looks to masculine.
[name]Lavender[/name]- I love this- so pretty!
[name]Lilac[/name]- Again, love it but not brave enough to use! Not sure how well it would grow.
[name]Lotus[/name]- See above. Very exotic
[name]Melisande[/name]- Hmm, not my style
[name]Naomi[/name]- Definitely useable but I have never liked it
Nomia nom-EE-ah- Useable.
[name]Pallas[/name]- Cool. [name]May[/name] get confused with palace
[name]Persephone[/name]- Always like it! Go for it!
[name]Priya[/name]- Sounds like a car- prius, but that’s just me!
[name]Sakura[/name] sah-KOO-rah-I like it- exotic and flowery!
[name]Sunniva[/name]- Ok, I’m probably pronouncing it wrong, but I’m saying sun-i-vuh. And that inevitably sounds like son-of-a. So, no.
[name]Waverly[/name]- Never been a fan
[name]Xanthe[/name]- Not my style, but a cool name

ANYTHING GOES IN THE MIDDLE!
“R” Middles
[name]Raisa[/name] rah-ee-sah

Ríona ree-OH-nah
[name]Rivi[/name]ére
[name]Rona[/name] ROH-nah

Six Letters or Less
[name]Avalon[/name] - I think this is a beautiful name, magical, mystical and enchanting.
[name]Blythe[/name] - I’m on the fence about this one, and I think it’s one of the weakest names on your list.
[name]Isaura[/name] - Very pretty.
[name]Isla[/name] - Correct pronunciation  I’m not a fan of this one, but that’s my personal thing. It’s quite cute.
Lilaia - Very pretty, and so feminine and sweet.
[name]Lilia[/name] - Same as above. If I had to choose between the two, I’d choose Lilaia
[name]Lyra[/name] - I say this LIE-ruh, never heard it pronounced otherwise. Gorgeous name, and it’s a constellation!
Neaira - Quite pretty, but you’ve got better ones.
Sirona - Pretty.

[name]Seven[/name] Letters
[name]Aemilia[/name] - I say eh-MEE-lee-uh. I love this name, so beautiful, and the spelling is lovely.
[name]Ariadne[/name] - I say a-ree-[name]AD[/name]-nee. [name]One[/name] of my favourties, so beautiful and strong and lovely.
[name]Artemis[/name] - My favourite [name]Goddess[/name]. [name]Lovely[/name] name and makes e picture hunting nymphs…
[name]Astraea[/name] - Gorgeous and starry. Brilliant.
Illyria - See my signature. [name]Love[/name] love love this name so much.

[name]Sabrina[/name] - [name]Goddess[/name] name. Beautiful and sweet.
[name]Titania[/name] - Another good one. Very A Midsummer [name]Night[/name]'s [name]Dream[/name], but that’s not a bad thing.
Virelai - Pretty and musical.
[name]Zenobia[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!!! If I have another daughter, this is a very likely name for her. It’s fantastic and cute as a button.

Eight Letters or More
Caliadne - Pretty. Like [name]Calliope[/name], [name]Calypso[/name] and [name]Ariadne[/name] more.
[name]Camellia[/name] - Pretty and floral.
Cerwidwen - ke-RID-wen. Another future baba name. [name]Love[/name] the iciness and [name]Goddess[/name] association.
[name]Cordelia[/name] - It’s pretty but way too tied to [name]King[/name] Lear for me. Prefer [name]Cornelia[/name], it’s more fun and self sufficient.
[name]Cressida[/name] - I love [name]Cressida[/name]. So very pretty. And the [name]Shakespeare[/name] play is cool too.

Like, but possibly cannot use. (Unless you can change my thoughts.)

[name]Acantha[/name] - That one’s too much for me too.
[name]Alcyone[/name] - al-SYE-uh-nee. Another future daughter contender! You’ve got good taste  I love [name]Alcyone[/name], so evocative and enchanting.

Calluna - Sweet, but I like [name]Luna[/name], [name]Lune[/name] or Evelune more.
[name]Calypso[/name] - kuh-LIP-so. Another one I love. It gives me the same feeling as [name]Alcyone[/name].
Chloé - I prefer simple [name]Chloe[/name], but it’s still lovely.
Coriander - Oh no. Please don’t.
[name]Corisande[/name] - Much better. Yes to this one!
[name]Cosima[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! Sounds like snuggling up under blankets and drinking cinnamon tea.
[name]Evadne[/name] - uh-VAD-nee. [name]Love[/name] this, so gorgeous and mesmerising.
[name]Evanthe[/name] - Nice, but [name]Evadne[/name] is better.
[name]Gaia[/name] - Very cool.
[name]Halcyon[/name] - I like it, but [name]Alcyone[/name] is soooo much better.
[name]Lavender[/name] - Yes, I do like [name]Lavender[/name]. The name, the flower.
[name]Lilac[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the flower, as a name not so much.
[name]Lotus[/name] - Beautiful, but very sexual.
[name]Melisande[/name] - Stunning and medieval.
[name]Naomi[/name] - Cute and sweet.
Nomia - Not as good as [name]Naomi[/name]. Or [name]Noemi[/name].
[name]Pallas[/name] - I do like it, but it’s kind of heavy.
[name]Persephone[/name] - Pretty and sweet. And fun to say.
[name]Priya[/name] - I do not like this. Sorry! I think it’s all because of that character on The Big Bang [name]Theory[/name].
[name]Sakura[/name] - It’s fine.
[name]Sunniva[/name] - I love this. Feels like a windy sunny day on a hill by the fjords in Norway. Good name.
[name]Waverly[/name] - Very pretty! So so cute. [name]Westley[/name] and [name]Buttercup[/name]'s daughter.
[name]Xanthe[/name] - Gorgeous. Very blonde though.

“R” Middles
[name]Raisa[/name] - Beautiful and sweet.
[name]Ramana[/name] - Eh. Not good, not bad. [name]Just[/name] in between.
[name]Rani[/name] - It’s ok.
[name]Reina[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] and spunky.
[name]Reverie[/name] - [name]Calm[/name], still, beautiful.
Ríona - Not sure… might be because it’s the end of the list, and my head is full of names. Or that it’s simply not that great.
[name]Rivi[/name]ére - Nope.
[name]Rona[/name] - Looks like [name]Ron[/name] with an -a attached. Boring.

[name]Long[/name] list, dudette! Good list though.

Here’s the ones I like that could also work as first names in the real world

Six Letters or Less

[name]Avalon[/name] – I know a lovely little [name]Avalon[/name]
[name]Isaura[/name] ee-SOW-rah – I’m not sure I like it at all, I’m only leaving it to ask is it SOW rhymes with LOW or SOW rhymes with OW
[name]Lilia[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name] – I would love this one tons more if you were saying it LIE-rah as it’s supposed to be said for the constellation named for [name]Orpheus[/name]’ lyre rather than like [name]Lyric[/name]

[name]Seven[/name] Letters

[name]Ariadne[/name] ahr-ee-ahd-nee – I leave this one to point out you’re saying it wrong. The correct Greek pronunciation is air-ee-odd-nee and I love it that way
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Liliana[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name]

Eight Letters or More

[name]Cressida[/name]

Like, but possibly cannot use. (Unless you can change my thoughts.)

I love:
[name]Lilia[/name]/[name]Liliana[/name]

[name]Aurelia[/name]

I almost love:
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Isabeau[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name]
[name]Aemilia[/name]

I really like:
Lilaia

Belphoebe
Calluna
[name]Xanthe[/name]
Nomia

I like a lot:
Caliadne
[name]Camellia[/name]
[name]Cosima[/name]
[name]Evadne[/name]
[name]Evanthe[/name]

[name]Nerissa[/name]
Coriander

For middles, I like:
[name]Reina[/name]
[name]Reverie[/name]
[name]Riona[/name]
[name]Rona[/name]

From your lists I like [name]Avalon[/name], [name]Sunniva[/name]*, and [name]Cordelia[/name].

Thanks everyone! I am still looking for the right combo, and you guys have helped immensely.

Most of your names are not my style and I cannot or would pronounce some of them the way you do. M take on them

Six Letters or Less
[name]Isaura[/name] ee-SOW-rah I like [name]Isaura[/name] with the saura prnounced like [name]Laura[/name]
Lilaia lil-EYE-ah Not too bad
[name]Lilia[/name] OK

[name]Seven[/name] Letters
[name]Aemilia[/name] eye-MEE-lee-ah A mouth full and I do not care for the spelling
[name]Artemis[/name] I like this, I think of it as a bos names, but I could get used to it for a girl
[name]Astraea[/name] Australia? Asteroid? Sorry
Illyria A name I like more on paper than aloud

[name]Isabeau[/name] I like this one

[name]Liliana[/name] I like this OK

[name]Nerissa[/name] Pretty
[name]Sabrina[/name]
Virelai NMS It sounds a bit harsh and I do not care for [name]Vera[/name]. (a bad person in a book I read when I was very young)
[name]Zenobia[/name] I vaguely do not like. Cannot say why though. Maybe [name]Zeno[/name] is too close to [name]Zero[/name]?

Eight Letters or More
[name]Cordelia[/name] Says old lady to me
[name]Cressida[/name] Toothpaste?

Like, but possibly cannot use. (Unless you can change my thoughts.)

[name]Amelia[/name] OK
Amélie ah-may-[name]LEE[/name] I like this one a lot
[name]Aurelia[/name] OK
[name]Caia[/name] OK
Calluna I don’t like
[name]Cosima[/name] Not sure if I like it or not
[name]Gaia[/name] Never have cared for this one
[name]Lavender[/name] Nice color
[name]Lilac[/name] I like the thought of it but not really seeing it on a live person
[name]Lotus[/name] Ditto above
[name]Melisande[/name] A mouth full
[name]Naomi[/name] I read a book where the Mom liked the look of [name]Naomi[/name] but not the sound so she changed the vowels around uuntil she got Niema. Interesting. I like the traditional [name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name] OK
[name]Pallas[/name] OH NO
[name]Sakura[/name] Very pretty, I like but would not use Too much [name]Asian[/name] for myself and where i live? Maybe a middle name?

I only have a couple of comments:

I [name]DO[/name] NOT recommend Virelai because it definitely sounds like “virulence,” a term used to describe how easily a pathogen transmits. You do not want your daughter to be an index for infectious diseases.

Second, why can’t you use [name]Aurelia[/name]? I know a little girl named [name]Aurelia[/name] and it works just fine; it never occurred to me that it might be “over the top” or anything. She often goes by [name]Rhea[/name], too.

Six Letters or Less
[name]Isaura[/name] ee-SOW-rah - [name]Way[/name] too hard to pronounce
Lilaia lil-EYE-ah - eh
[name]Lilia[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! especially with nn [name]Lili[/name]

[name]Seven[/name] Letters
[name]Aemilia[/name] - too hard to pronounce and sounds too much like [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name] - I don’t really like godess names for real people
[name]Astraea[/name] - [name]How[/name] to say it?
Illyria - Same as above

[name]Isabeau[/name] - OK

[name]Liliana[/name] - nice, but only with nn [name]Lili[/name]

[name]Nerissa[/name] - too much like [name]Marissa[/name]
[name]Sabrina[/name] - Like it
Virelai - Pretty, but same pronunciation problem
[name]Zenobia[/name] - Nice

Eight Letters or More
[name]Cordelia[/name] - Very pretty. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Lia[/name]
[name]Cressida[/name] - too Hunger Games-ish

For middles, even though it is a bit mainstream, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Rose[/name].

You have a stunning list. I’m quite fond of [name]Isabeau[/name], and the only ones I dislike are [name]Naomi[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name], as I just don’t like the sound of them. [name]Nerissa[/name], [name]Artemis[/name], [name]Sabrina[/name] and [name]Zenobia[/name] are just great. They have quite a bit of history to them. I see you took Belphoebe, [name]Calypso[/name] and [name]Camellia[/name] off you list, but I love those too.

I love your list! I see our styles are quite similar

Adore:
