new list of names-opinions?

[name]Just[/name] some names I’ve been tossing around…I’d like to hear opinions, personal images, combinations. [name]Just[/name] for thoughts!

[name]Allegra[/name]
[name]Celia[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Elora[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Wendy[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Matilde[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name]
[name]Irene[/name]
[name]Avis[/name]

[name]Allegra[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! [name]Allegra[/name] is gorgeous, but I really don’t like any nicknames for it. I can picture it on just about anyone. I also have to say that I hated it at first, but I know like it.
[name]Celia[/name] - Very pretty, but I much prefer [name]Cecilia[/name].
[name]Rosemary[/name] - Gorgeous! It would look so so sweet on a little girl! I don’t know if I would ever use it for myself, though.
[name]Alice[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] and vintage sounding! It’s very popular in [name]England[/name], and I can see it rising in the US. I know more than several Alices (and an [name]Alys[/name])
[name]Elora[/name] - Uh, it’s OK. It just seems a little made up, or a ‘trying-to-hard’ type of name.
[name]Daphne[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! So pretty and vintage, and underused in the US -although quite well-heard of in the UK. I know a lovely little girl named [name]Daphne[/name] with a sister named [name]Fiona[/name]!
[name]Wendy[/name] - [name]Wendy[/name] reminds me so much of the character from [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name]. I remember thinking it was just gorgeous as a child. The only [name]Wendy[/name] I’ve ever known was in her mid-30s and was a little bit dippy.
[name]Phoebe[/name] - Again, another well-known one in [name]England[/name] but underused in the US. I first think of [name]Phoebe[/name] from Friends, and then a little girl I know (around 9) with this name.
[name]Matilde[/name] - It’s OK. I prefer [name]Matilda[/name], to be honest.
[name]Jocelyn[/name] - Not a huge fan. My cousin (who is Canadian) is a [name]Jocelyn[/name] who goes by [name]Jojo[/name]… which I like. [name]Joey[/name] is a sweet nickname too.
[name]Irene[/name] - I’ve always thought of this as an old-lady name (not necessarily in a bad way) until I met a 13 year old [name]Irene[/name] who lives in Uganda.
[name]Avis[/name] - Extremely dislike. It sounds vulgar and masculine, and a bit like [name]Mavis[/name] without an M.

I really love these names:
[name]Celia[/name]- very elegant but still trendy
[name]Rosemary[/name]- really sweet, but my headmistress was called [name]Rosemary[/name] so not a name I would choose!
[name]Alice[/name]- my name! I didn’t like it as a child as i thought it was too short and un-girlie, but now I think it is perfect & not too cutesy really trendy and vintage
[name]Daphne[/name]- love this name! I do prefer [name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Mathilde[/name]- I prefer [name]Matilda[/name], my mn, but being French this is very cute

the others are ok, but not really my type!!

[name]Allegra[/name] - It’s a medicine. Would have been a great name if it wasn’t though!

[name]Celia[/name] - A bit tired, doesn’t evoke any emotion in me. Dowdy, perhaps?

[name]Rosemary[/name] - seasoning

[name]Alice[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Alice[/name] (I’m an [name]Alison[/name]) but am afraid that this classic name is going to become increasingly popular due to the Twilight character and the new adaptation of [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland

[name]Elora[/name] - Not a fan. What about [name]Eloise[/name]?

[name]Daphne[/name] - I like the name [name]Daphne[/name]. I think it’s feminine and soft. It’s also not a very popular name which I prefer.

[name]Wendy[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name] - too boring, overused.

[name]Matilde[/name] - not a fan.

[name]Jocelyn[/name] - I love this name and the name, [name]Josephine[/name]. Very pretty.

[name]Irene[/name] - makes me think of a waitress at Waffle House.

[name]Avis[/name] - travel company, not a fan.

Thanks everyone! I think, now that I’ve considered them and gotten input…

[name]Allegra[/name] - I’m really coming around to [name]Allegra[/name]! Especially [name]Allegra[/name] [name]Iris[/name]. Oohh…That’s a keeper! It’s musical and floral and better a medicine than a disease!

[name]Celia[/name] - I’ve always liked this for the literary reasons, esp. [name]Celia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]. But I probably wouldn’t use it.

[name]Rosemary[/name] - Still loving [name]Rosemary[/name]! I think this is the number 2/number 1 substitute on my list.

[name]Alice[/name] - Always have loved [name]Alice[/name] and Wonderland, but Twilight’s a good reason to take it off my list. [name]Don[/name]'t want anyone assuming that I like those “books”, now do I?

[name]Elora[/name] - I still like [name]Elora[/name], but like [name]Celia[/name], I probably wouldn’t use it. Well, I’m more likely to use [name]Elora[/name] than [name]Celia[/name]. As far as [name]Eloise[/name] goes, I think it’s a neat name, ready for a comeback and is definitely going to get caught up in the [name]El[/name]-trend. Poor [name]Eloise[/name].

[name]Daphne[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Daphne[/name], still on my list, but there’s a few names in front of it first.

[name]Wendy[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name] - I’ve never met a [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Wendy[/name] and I do like them, but I’m taking them off the list. [name]Lovely[/name] names, but will I use them?

[name]Matilde[/name] - I don’t care for [name]Matilda[/name] but I can see myself using [name]Matilde[/name] as a middle name maybe.

[name]Jocelyn[/name] - [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Jocelyn[/name]. I don’t like [name]Josephine[/name] though. But [name]Jocelyn[/name] is first on my list of middle names!

[name]Irene[/name] - I like [name]Irene[/name] but it’s a family name so I wobble back and forth on it.

[name]Avis[/name] - Not for my daughter but for a schoolgirl heroine like [name]Polly[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Hermione[/name]? Yup! Keeping it for a future character.

[name]Allegra[/name] - Very pretty! I like it
[name]Celia[/name] - a pretty name, but to me it conjures up images of snobby rich girls
[name]Rosemary[/name] - this has been growing on me a lot lately, I like it with the nickname [name]Romy[/name]!
[name]Alice[/name] - sweet and simple, love it
[name]Elora[/name] - pretty, but I like [name]Eliora[/name] better
[name]Daphne[/name] - not a huge fan
[name]Wendy[/name] - very sweet name, like it
[name]Phoebe[/name] - again not really a fan
[name]Matilde[/name] - I’d like it with the nn [name]Tilly[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name] - not my fave
[name]Irene[/name] - I can’t really imagine this one on a little girl
[name]Avis[/name] - not a fan

My faves from your list are [name]Allegra[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Alice[/name], and [name]Wendy[/name]! Nice list!

I just put up my absolute favorites from your list that I had something to say about

Go ahead and use [name]Celia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]! It’s lovely, isn’t it? But [name]Rosemary[/name] ([name]Romy[/name]/[name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name]) for someday…

[name]Allegra[/name] - I don’t mean to offend, but I feel like this would be similar to naming ones child [name]Evian[/name]. It reminds me of the allergy medicine allegra just like [name]Evian[/name] reminds me of bottled water. Sorry lol I just can’t get over it.

[name]Celia[/name] - I love [name]Celia[/name]. I feel like it’s a sweet name for a child but it also ages well. A beautiful choice I think.

[name]Rosemary[/name] - beautiful, but a little dated in my opinion. It reminds me of a sweet old lady. On the other hand maybe it’s time for a revival!

[name]Alice[/name] - I do adore [name]Alice[/name]. So sweet and pure. Another classic name that ages well. Very elegant choice.

[name]Elora[/name] - less conventional than some of your other choices but I still like it. It’s soft and feminine. It’s also on my long List!

[name]Daphne[/name] - I like it, but it still also makes me think of scooby doo!

[name]Wendy[/name] - reminds me of [name]Casper[/name] and [name]Wendy[/name]. That little witch girl. Also terrible personal experiences with a [name]Wendy[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t like at all.

[name]Phoebe[/name] - it’s cute but I wouldn’t use it personally. It reminds me of [name]Phoebe[/name] from the American tv how friends. And [name]Phoebus[/name] from the hunchback of notre dame.

[name]Matilde[/name] - a little old lady for me. But it’s okay I guess.

[name]Jocelyn[/name] - dated. Bad personal experiences.

[name]Irene[/name] - the name of my alcoholic neighbor growing up. Again, dated.

[name]Avis[/name] - isn’t this the name of a car insurance place?

Sorry if this seems harsh! Unfortunately most of your names have bad personal meaning for me.
Good luck!

No, no offense taken!

Yes, [name]Allegra[/name]'s an allergy medicine, but it’s also a musical term, which is what I connect it with. And I never watched Scooby-Doo (I only know one person who did watch it really), so the [name]Daphne[/name] character isn’t an issue for me. As far as “[name]Casper[/name] and [name]Wendy[/name]” goes, I like both names and I think, like Scooby-Doo, the characters are getting out-of-date.

[name]Matilde[/name] may seem a little old-lady-like for you, but I actually know a teenaged [name]Matilde[/name], so it seems young and fresher than [name]Matilda[/name] to me!

“isn’t this the name of a car insurance place?” So I keep hearing. But I’ve never seen it before. :sunglasses: It’s a bit short for me anyhow but I still like it.

Unfortunately most of your names have bad personal meaning for me." Understandable. I can’t think of the name [name]Katherine[/name] without cringing. :expressionless:

[name]Allegra[/name] - That’s my cat’s name! It’s perfect for my sweet orange kitty because it means joyful in Italian, and I think it would be lovely on a happy little girl, too.
[name]Celia[/name] - I like [name]Cecelia[/name] better.
[name]Rosemary[/name] - My least favorite herb; plus, I don’t dig the name.
[name]Alice[/name] - [name]Love[/name]^infinity.
[name]Elora[/name] - It’s okay.
[name]Daphne[/name] - Another cat of mine!
[name]Wendy[/name] - Nah.
[name]Phoebe[/name] - See: [name]Wendy[/name].
[name]Matilde[/name] - Yes! Super cute.
[name]Jocelyn[/name] - Nooooo.
[name]Irene[/name] - See: [name]Jocelyn[/name].
[name]Avis[/name] - ? One of these names is doin’ its own thing ?

[name]Allegra[/name] - Allergy medication or not, I find this very harsh sounding.
[name]Celia[/name] - I picture a quiet girl who loves to read and is very introverted. I think it’s sweet.
[name]Rosemary[/name] - I think this is a perfectly fine name. One I might enjoy on someone else’s child. I picture a spunky and saucy little girl running about.
[name]Alice[/name] - I still love it, despite the twilight craze. I picture creative little girl or an elegant, well-dressed woman.
[name]Elora[/name] - I really love this one too. You have some great names here!
[name]Daphne[/name] - My only niece’s name is [name]Daphne[/name]. She is a very happy baby.
[name]Wendy[/name] - I associate this one with [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name]. I absolutely love it and it’s on my list.
[name]Phoebe[/name] - I do like this one, but I just can’t picture it on an actual person. I know more than one dog named this.
[name]Matilde[/name] - I prefer [name]Mathilde[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] to [name]Matilde[/name]. If you love it, I’d say it’s perfect acceptable and sweet.
[name]Jocelyn[/name] - I know a couple of Jocelyns and I find them both to be quite a bit odd. I do love the name though!
[name]Irene[/name] - I had a teacher named [name]Irene[/name] who was so fun! She was very well rounded and worldly.
[name]Avis[/name] - This one is okay. My favorite —is name is definitely [name]Hollis[/name].
