New name alert/ reminder

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a quick post after seeing the latest [name_m]Count[/name_m] of [name_m]Monte[/name_m] [name_m]Cristo[/name_m] movie (decades after reading the book) and a character having the name: [name_f]Haydée[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- apparently stemming from another literary name, [name_f]Haidee[/name_f].

Anyone else find it pretty? :tulip:

Yes! I feel like everytime I mention this one it gets ousted. But it is really such a lovely name! And with the literary tie to the count of [name_m]Monte[/name_m] [name_m]Cristo[/name_m], and the similarity to popular [name_f][/name_f] names like [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], [name_f]Hadley[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f] & [name_f]Ada[/name_f] it really should be more popular than it is! The biggest downside that gets pointed out everytime I bring it up is the similarity to Haiti, which personally I don’t mind too much.

Hello longtime Haydee fan! Would never have thought of the Haiti connection - not even as an Aussie where on some words T is almost a D.

I think people who say Haiti just don’t know what to say

[name_f]Haydée[/name_f] is gorgeous… but it took me full 2 minutes of trying to remember how to do accent over e… I never learn that in school since I am not born [name_f]English[/name_f] speaker, but it looks different without accent.
[name_f][/name_f]Also think it may be confused for Hailee/Heidi/other similar H names.

[name_f]Haydée[/name_f] and [name_f]Haidee[/name_f] are so pretty and cool [name_f][/name_f]- a bit like [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Hadley[/name_f], and [name_f]Hailee[/name_f] in one [name_f][/name_f] I remember mentioning it on a different name site years ago and all anyone had to say was that it just sounds like [name_m]Hades[/name_m]

I def thought of [name_m]Hades[/name_m] right away :skull_and_crossbones::woozy_face::skull_and_crossbones::woozy_face:[name_f][/name_f] but if you see the movie you’ll hear how lovely it sounds in [name_m]French[/name_m] (from a man in a long coat).

I always found [name_f]Haydée[/name_f] to be super beautiful, but I never know how to say it? [name_f][/name_f] Is it like [name_m]Hades[/name_m] without the S? [name_f][/name_f] High-day? [name_f][/name_f] Eye-day? [name_f][/name_f] It always felt like [name_m]Hayden[/name_m] and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] to me.

[name_f][/name_f]

…side note; was it good? [name_f][/name_f] I love The [name_m]Count[/name_m] of [name_m]Monte[/name_m] [name_m]Cristo[/name_m] and somehow missed that they did a remake!

It’s pronounced Haydeh, almost Hayyy-deh (hard to write dé [name_m]French[/name_m] sound because it’s it a dee or a day, it’s in between). But the Anglicised is Hay-dee.

Movie was very good [name_f][/name_f]- beautifully shot, gorgeous locations, well-acted, the prison scenes especially powerful, full three hours, and yet it needed (imo) to spend more time on his life before capture and his life as the [name_m]Count[/name_m] of MC (enjoying his new status) and more on setting up/explaining the political stakes. It felt too focused on his personal revenge (one down, two to go etc) and it became a bit parochial & hollow somehow. There was something missing in his relationship with [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f]. But I get there are limits of film and it couldn’t really be any longer! Definitely worthwhile [name_f][/name_f]- was great to settle into something epic.

I definitely sympathize with that, I never know how to write how to say the accent aïgu. Hay-Dee does translate very nicely in English, though! I’m learning Portuguese currently with a Brazilian emphasis, so my instinct is to say it the Brazilian Portuguese way :woman_facepalming:t3:

That does sound worth tracking down, at least! I’m a big fan of Hugo & Dumas. I think I saw there was a BBC miniseries of it as well last year? I don’t know how I missed both, lol.
