A couple weeks ago we took our daughter to an indoor playplace & I heard a new one for a little girl… [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m].
Thoughts?
I think its terrible.
Edit: DH just reminded me it was actually Blakelynn, which I think is even worse!

For a second, when I saw the title, I though you were a person considering the name [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m] and experienced a jolt of sheer revulsion/despair.
I know a [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m] spelled [name_u]Blakely[/name_u]. Definitely not a fan.
Well I detest this spelling, but there is an actress [name_u]Blakely[/name_u], isn’t there? Or is it [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively… I always think her name is [name_u]Blakely[/name_u]. Either way, it’s not my style, but it sounds about right for modern trends.
It’s a surname that is usually spelled [name_u]Blakeley[/name_u] or [name_u]Blakely[/name_u]. Adding “lee” and “lyn” to names and words is quite an epidemic. Not a fan of this name or the trend.
Beyond terrible, ugh! Blakeley/Blakely spelled correctly is bad enough on a girl, misspelling it just makes it worse. It happens to be my surname (ley ending).
This exactly.
I hate [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m] and its many variations as a first name and it should remain as a surname. I also hate the ‘leigh’ trend, names with this ending just don’t appeal to me
You scared me! I thought you were actually considering it for yourself. I don’t like it one bit. It looks like another surname that was ‘prettied up’ for a girl. Changing -ly to -leigh always bothers me because they are pronounced different, but no one that does it usually takes notice of it. [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m] to me would be [name_u]Blake[/name_u] - lay(rhymes with sleigh).
I don’t like [name_u]Blakely[/name_u] at all. That lady [name_f]Trista[/name_f] Rehn from the Bachelorette (several seasons ago) named her daughter Blakesly (not sure on the spelling, but she added an S in there). I think it’s awful.
Eww. [name_m]Just[/name_m] eww. Eww to the [name_u]Blake[/name_u] part (boys name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]) and double eww to the [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] trend.
When I saw your heading, I said “[name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m], bleck. awful!” …I’m glad you feel the same way so I don’t have to sensor my opinion and I can be totally honest!
Awful. I thought you were considering the name yourself when I read the topic!
What do you think’s worse:
[name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m] or Blakelynn?
I’d say [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m] is worse, because I like it, sort of (spelled [name_u]Blakely[/name_u]), on a boy, while I have no real opinion on Blakelyyn beyond ew. On the other hand, Blakelynn looks worse on paper. So ultimately, both!
I know 2 [name_u]Blakely[/name_u]'s. Not my favorite but it’s not horrid. Blakelynn is worse, imo.
Yes, when I saw the thread, I thought, “Surely she can’t go from the lovely Azula and [name_f]Indira[/name_f] to… [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m]?!” [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you dislike it too.
I can’t decide which is worse. I despise the random -lynn at the end of names ([name_f]Kaelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Jazlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Braelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] - sadly all on the top 1000), but the whole changing-ly-to-leigh trend rubs me the wrong way too. I’m going to go with [name_m]Blakeleigh[/name_m] as the worst one though, because it just looks so awful when written down.
I’m so over the whole “add -ly or -lyn to a name to make it ‘unique’” trend. I started going through the entire SSA list this past week and so far, I’ve found several full names that have -lyn added to the end. A few are Blakelyn, Scotlyn, and Joshlyn.
It’s another one of the spreading disease of trendy names, usually spelt [name_u]Blakely[/name_u] or [name_u]Blakeley[/name_u]. It reminds me of [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively as, if you say [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively fast, it sounds like [name_u]Blakeley[/name_u]. Blakelynn is horrendous. It’s just a usual, trailer trash kind of name that joins alongside Faithlynn, [name_f]Amberly[/name_f], Tialynn and all other names with -ley/-ly and -lynn/-lyn added on.
I hate it! Terrible! I dislike boy names on girls or the surnames as first names and the -lynn or -lee trend.
I love the name [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] (it’s my middle name), but dislike it added to a name in place of -ly.
