Soooo [name_m]Deverell[/name_m]?
Found it. Fell hard and fast for it. It’s a swoon-worthy balance of historical and mysterious IMO.
Questions:
- Is it too close to devil?
- What middles would you pair with it?
- Other general thoughts
Thanks

i see the similarity to devil now that you point it out, but it’s not an issue imo. i’d pair a more familiar name with it, like Deverell Alexander, Deverell Ulysses, or Deverell Theodore.
i’m not a fan, personally, but i don’t think it’s a bad name. i think he would be called Dev a lot as a nn!
I don’t know if Deverell is completely new to me, or I haven’t paid attention to it before, but please take these feelings as ‘first impressions’ either way.
“Is it too close to devil?”
That did not occur to me
Soundwise, are you going with two or three syllables? Before looking at the page link I was debating how many syllables, and thinking that with three it’s very distanced from that word. Idk yet which I prefer. Some other middle suggestions:
Deverell Indigo
Deverell Cassan / Cassander
Deverell Argider
Deverell Sabien
Deverell Lothar
Deverell Antares
Deverell Omari
Deverell Zephyrin
Deverell Noë
“What middles would you pair with it?”
I love a French name, so I’m thinking one of my favourites such as Deverell Maxence, Deverell Léo, Deverell Loïc. (At this point in my reply/thinking about Deverell, I’ve defaulted to the 2 syllable PN. With 3 syllables, I can see it being easier to draw out the last with an American accent perhaps, but in my English one it’s a short sound that’s difficult to enunciate - it sounds lovely when I manage it though!!)
“Other general thoughts.”
If I knew a person with this name I’m sure PN would soon become intuitive.
Do you happen to like Devereaux / Deveraux? I love this one!
[name_m]Deverell[/name_m] is very regal and charming and if you pronounce it Dev-eh-rul, the ‘devil’ similarity might be less than the Dev-rull one. Still, I think some people might point it out, in a joke-y way? Like [name_m]Damian[/name_m] / [name_m]Damon[/name_m] and [name_m]Demon[/name_m] [name_m]Deveraux[/name_m] might appeal too?
Middles:
[name_m]Deverell[/name_m] [name_m]Casper[/name_m]
[name_m]Deverell[/name_m] [name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Deverell[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Deverell[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Deverell[/name_m] [name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_m]Deverell[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
Thank you all so much! I had only considered the Dev-uh-rel pronunciation so if we were to ever choose it, it would be that one!
@venezio wow I love [name_u]Antares[/name_u] but my husband will never go for it. I like [name_m]Devereaux[/name_m] but I think [name_m]Deverell[/name_m] is probably more our taste. Thanks for your input!
@kapaza thanks!
@Greyblue you described it so well: regal and charming! Appreciate the input and the names! It’s staying on this list for now but might be slightly less high. We’ll see!
